    Barking Complaints

How often do you exercise Ike? Do you do training with him? How much mental stimulus do you give Ike?
  2. Saw a Newfoundland, Samoyed, lots of Japanese Spitz.
  3. that's awesome. i love reading stuff like this :D
  4. There is a Cav that goes to SASH that has the disease He is only 4 years old but you look at him and you definitely know there is something not right with him. The owners didn't say much about it because they were, understandably, devestated about it.

    Wormy Puppy

When I temped care a pup that had worms, the vet told me the best thing I can do for it was just worm him regularly, give him plenty of liquid (because they will have the runs and it's often very dark and very smelly) and keep him warm. Other from that, there isn't much we can do but just let it run it course. I had to feed him little amounts of food but more frequent feeding. The pup I had was active and still played around, but if he shows signs of lack of energy or whatnot, that's when I had to take him to the vets. Poor pup, hope he gets better soon.
  6. As well as a furry Finnish Lapphund and a excited Swedish Vallhund too :D Ohh.. why does Mindy have fur missing from her chest? Awesome! I'll be keeping a close eye on Emmy... she tends to always surprise me when we are in public.
  7. I don't trust Emmy with kids and I don't trust kids with Charlie. So basically, no kids are ever alone with my dogs. Dog savvy or not.
  8. That is Charlie and Emmy every single day. it's awesome to watch.
  9. that's great to hear :D We gave up trying to keep Emmy quiet after 5 minutes. She never once got groggy and didn't show any sign of pain. When we went to pick her up, she was running down the corridor of the vet and launched into our arms. The vet was wishing us luck on keeping her quiet! Honestly, I don't think the bimbo realise she had surgery!!
  10. This is from my experience with Emmy: 1. When you go to pat him, do you go over his head or do you place your hand under his chin? I'm asking because Emmy is like that, and we've discovered that if we put our hand palms up and reach for the side of the face, that she is more willing to come to us. She LOVES her chin scratch but doesn't like getting patted on the head or the ears (only let me scratch behind her ears when she ask for it). I think cause he is so little, he can't see what's going above him so that can make him a little nervous. Also when you are calling him and reaching for him, what's your body language like? Are you bending over him? I found that if I squat, and call her over.. she is more likely to come. 2. Do you do the 15 minutes rule? (put bowl down for 15 minutes and take it away). When do you feed him? Cause he is still young and need to have 3 meals a day, maybe feed him in a kong? Could he be teething? Both Charlie and Emmy were off their food for a bit when they were going through it. What I use to do was put 1 chicken neck in a small take away container, put water in it (just so it covers the neck) and freeze it. Then I would give it to them.. they love the cold when they are teething. When you want them to get out of your hand, holding your hand flat out and the treat on it and also hold your hand out.. you can gradually pull your hand back. 3. If luring isn't working, have you considered trying guiding method? You gently put him into the position you want him too.. eg, sit.. with your dominant hand, place 2 fingers under the collar on top of his neck and with your other hand put it on his hip and in a rocking motion, guide him into a sit. Once he is sitting calming, you release him and reward him like crazy. When adding in the command, you say 'Sit' either before or during the time you guide him into position. Also how much of attention span does he have? Emmy had NIL. Our training sessions were 10 x 1 mins a day.
  11. My 2 poops 2 or 3 times a day too. They are on raw diet so their poos are smaller and harder as well.
  12. I still want the same dogs I've always wanted but the major change on that list was adding Tollers. It was never on the list of dogs that I want to own, but now it has shoved it's way to being on my MUST OWN ONE list. It's even made its way up to the Top 3 dogs, I will own in the future. The more I hear about them, read about them and research them... I really really want one ETA: But Toller won't be my next breed I own though..
  13. Just look for a red doggie stroller with Charlie's head sticking out of it (that's how he has been "walking" lately). Next to it, will be a Japanese Spitz wearing a pink princess name tag and a black Ruffwear harness. We will probably be parking at Newington and walk to the Olympic Park. What time do you all planning to be there? Walk starts about 10am, so we are planning to be there about 9.30ish... so we can all meet at the entrance?

  15. I agree with the article to a point. Dogs know their sizes and I feel that little dogs are more reactive due to this. Everything is HUGE to them. So people got to learn to understand that, and help them be comfortable in the huge world. There's something missing....should be 'Owner-created small dog syndrome'. But that shorter phrase is being used in many places. It needs filling out. Yes, smaller dogs can tend to be given a different type of attention from owners, because they're portable & less seen as dogs that need training and management accordingly. And, being small, these dogs can get more intimidated by the 'larger' bodies around them, reacting with timidity or defensiveness. So tips for handling smaller dogs can be useful (like, get down low when calling them, don't swoop down on them). Also, as they tend to be housedogs, & kept close to owners, they can get demanding of their owner's attention. Might come out in 'bigger than their boots' behaviours or separation anxiety issues. But, having said all that, small breeds well understood & well managed are delightful pets. I wouldn't swap our tibbies, for the world. They often get praised by strangers for their good behaviour. I'd like to claim full responsibility for that. Truth is, they were adopted as adults from a registered breeder...& they came like that! I just maintained the good work already put in!. Ohh... I like this phrase though!
  16. I really dislike the phrase "small dog syndrome" It's the people that creates little dogs to mini monsters.
