I have yet to meet a nice and friendly Westie although I have nothing against the breed at all. The rare times that dogs do try to hump my 2.. all of them have been Westies. I don't mind staffies and Em doesn't mind playing with them. She likes playing rough.

Emmy loves watching Flyball on Youtube. As soon as I watch a flyball clip, Emmy jumps on my lap and watches it (she does really really cute head tilts too) and sometimes join in the barking.

Charlie and Emmy sleeps on the bed with me. Charlie takes half of the queen size bed himself whereas Emmy and I (and Mr CW EW when he stays over) have to fight out of the other half.

Yes. I thank my dogs too.

There is a few leash free parks where I live but they aren't necessary dog parks.

Many years ago, my dog ,Mitchell had an op on one knee ... he was about 4/5 yrs old . After it healed .. he was absolutely fine . No limp/no pain/no arthritis for the rest of his life ..and he hunted/ran/jumped .... His op was done by a specialist , thank goodness. We were lucky That's so good

I will recommend you to go a proper specialist. Not the vets. They mean well but they aren't expert on bones or joints. Cutting up a pup and having surgery on a pup is a serious thing, no matter what it is. My vet said that Em had Grade 4 patella issues on her hinds legs too when she was 6 months old. They wanted to operate on her before she was 10 months old. Like you, I was seriously considering on going what the doc was staying (even made an appointment to bring her in) but I never felt comfortable cutting her open before she was a year old and because she wasn't limping. So, I went with my gut feeling and took her to a proper specialist and he said that they aren't comfortable operating on a pup that's under 1 years old with patella issues... also the fact that they can't notice her limping or anything. The kneecap only pops out when they touch her knees and because she is tense. She is often tense when strangers touch her. Also the bones are still developing and sometimes it takes a while for the bones to join in properly. I do physio with Em everyday, she is put on a good diet (I keep her underweight so she doesn't have to much weight to carry), I take her swimming a lot and she gets nightly massages too (to keep her body relaxed). Took her to the vets again when she was a year old, she still has patella issues but he admit that she doesn't need surgery anymore. In fact, she is doing great. I don't feel her kneecaps popping out anymore nor have I've seen her lame/limp once. No matter what happens.. surgery or no.. unfortunately your pup is going to have arthritis. Surgery is going to make that worst.

Charlie (who is desexed) still humps sometimes but he only hump his toys and he does it to release energy. I've noticed that he will hump when he hasn't been exercises enough. That's the only time I get humping at home. If your friends doesn't like the behaviour, she should stop him doing it. Teach him that's a behaviour she doesn't tolerate at home. Exercise and train him more. Tired dog is a good dog I wouldn't let any other dog trying to sort out that pup's behaviour either. I know if a dog tried to hump Em, she will definitely make sure to let the other dog she doesn't like it (and there is a reason why we call her a bitch). I don't want to put her in that position where she has to do that either.

Not sure how to answer that question... it all depends on you and your home situation. Also it depends on how much you love the new breed. I have a Cav x and a Japanese Spitz and I often get ask (in surprised) 'How do they get along? 2 totally different breeds'. My 2 get along great with each other, but Charlie is so laid back, easy going and been socialised with so many different kind of breeds that he would be find with any dog I came home with. Just research different breeds, talk to breeders on how they think that particular breed will get along with your dogs at home and make your decision from there. What other breed are you looking at? Sometimes you do have to wait for a while for the right pup to come along... I know a few people who has been waiting for over 2 years for their right puppy.

I wouldn't close the crate door just yet.. let him get use of being in there first

it's been a big day for the cutie... I'll wait till he is awake and more lively. Maybe wait till dinner.

That's true. And, now I think about it.. there is probably more to it (and there is with buttons ) To me, the thread just sounds like a naughty puppy who is bored and it's a start of a terrible teen phase. That's when I will up the training and exercise, re established leadership. That's why I suggest ToT and NILIF.
-
Re Establish leadership between dog and owner.
-
ToT NILIF
-
TOT= Triangle of temptation NILIF= Nothing in life is free. yep
-
Then he might be going through this terrible teen stage time for ToT and NILIF ??
-
Because dogs always extend to fill the space available Dogs on furniture - never heard of such a thing Nawww... what a cutie That's so true... it always amazes me how Charlie can take half a queen size bed, living me, Emmy and sometimes Mr CWEW with the other half all squish together.
-
How much exercise does he get? Do you do any training with thim? Is he walked regularly? What mental stimulus do you give him? Pups are destructive if they are bored and have too much energy. As for toys... do you alternate his toys? Because pups can get bored of the same toys all the time too, no matter how much he has.
