  1. This is the attitude why there isn't many dog friendly beaches in Australia.
  2. That is so wrong on so many level. That's a really good plan!!
  3. Try to associate collar means something fun.. like going for a walk, or park time or something that you know that she will find fun. My 2 are often collar less at home, but as soon as I get their collars out.. they know we're going for a trip and get all happy about it. They can't wait for me to put their collars on them.
  4. Absolutely... no judging here. Parting from a beloved animal is heart breaking (I've been through it.. bad break up). I know life can get hard and situation changes. And, how people deal with it is a very personal thing. I moved from a house with a yard to an apartment. As much as I wanted a dog, I couldn't get one till I was really ready for one. It won't be fair for the dog, but I felt like I wouldn't be able to give it a stable home. I can still provide for a pup, but I wouldn't be able to give it a stability. I'm with you guys, I will go without to make sure that my 2 are well looked after. But, I am curious to hear what people thought on it too. Just because there are lots of dogs in pounds because their owners can no longer look after them (financially), or because they get sick for not looking after themselves that they can no longer look after their pets. It's sad and sucky all around.
  5. All I can say is that Dog People are a very special sort of people (the boyfriend thinks we are nuts! )
  6. I'm glad claireybell that things worked out for you.
  7. cost of owning a canine This has sparked a curious question from me Also a conversation I had with my neighbour, who ate bake beans and bread for a week before she used her food money to pay her dog's vet bill. A lot of people I know, often say or tell me they rather be poor to give their dog the best life. Really? Do you think you're giving your dog the best life living that way? Dogs are great for company. What they give to a human is nowhere what we give them... (Charlie saved my life and Emmy.. oh Em, she is the best medicine any doc can prescribe to me) Dogs aren't cheap though. Everything cost things. Vet bills, food, grooming, worming tablets, training etc. Is it being fair for you to live that way? It's all admirable that person love and care for that dog that much, but sometimes you have to put yourself before your dog, right? Wouldn't you want to be in a stable position yourself before taking on a responsible on getting a dog? This is genuinely curious question. I'm sooo sorry if anyone feels insulted with this thread. I know it can be a sensitive subject to a few people.
  8. Your dog is awesome and you have done a great work with him I'm having the same problem with Em. But, she is ever so slowly getting better. This is going to be on going work for me Em and I for the rest of her life. If she was halfway as good as your dog.. I'll be totally be happy with that.
  9. It all depends and how you deal with the situation and depends on your pup, I guess. Charlie is my dog. Mr CW EW can feed him, play with him or whatever but Charlie will leave him for me in a heartbeat. He is soo chilled though. Nothing phase my boy. He use to whinged when I left him to work as a pup, but that didn't last long. It's like he figured out that I'm always going to go home to him. As he got older, his attitude is 'humans come to me. i do not go to humans'. He has taught humans recall. If he barks or squeal.. humans will run to him to see if he is ok Emmy, who is prone to anxiety, was taught to be alone from a young age. The first few times where I took Charlie for a walk and she had to stay home, she will scream the house down!! Mr CW EW was very impress with her lungs!! Now, she doesn't like being alone but she won't fuss about it. She usually goes into her crate and lay there and waits. She still whinges a little when I leave the house, but it doesn't last more than a minute. She use to follow me everywhere, but she likes being near me. I often ignored her though (I'm to busy doing other things to pay her any attention). I don't remember when she stopped following me though, but she still check in with me once in a while but it's more of seeing if I'm doing anything fun and if she can play too
  10. It's all depends on the owners and the building code rules. The news agency near where I lives allow dogs in his shops, because he doesn't like seeing dogs tied outside. Charlie or Em often goes with me to get the Sunday papers. A guy I know that works in the city brings his greyhound to work with him everyday. I don't think I've had any problem finding pet friendly places (although they are both little breed) but we rather take the dogs camping. There are a lot of pet friendly camping places around Australia :D
  11. Tibbies are very intelligent breed. I will put it on and leave it too.
  12. She looks like a complete sweetie I'm completely in love with TerraNik's Keeshonden Jedi
  13. it all depends on the temperament of your pup. How much work he is I will wait till the first pup is fully trained, properly socialise and be a good example for the next pup. Until then, I'll just wait. Also, it also depends on you.. do you have time for another puppy? will you be able to give both dog and pup the attention and time they both need? will you be about to fulfill both their needs? Charlie was a year old before I got Em. But he was the perfect pup and still is an awesome dog. But, if I was to get Em first... well, that's an entirely different story!! I probably would of just stuck with one pup!!! Charlie has a massive influence over her and she idolise him and copies him. Charlie loves his Emmy.

    Poor Ike

Em apparently has Grade 3. You can't tell that she has any problems though. She doesn't limp, there is no clicking or any sign that she has it. When she tense and I massage her, I can feel it pop out (it's a gross feeling)... but once she is relaxed, it goes back in again. But that doesn't happen often. But I do manage how much she can run around and act like a nutter though.
  15. Really? Lifetime it adds up to that? Charlie did a great job and beat that figure (and then some), and it only took Charlie less than 2 years to achieve that too love your work Charlie

    Poor Ike

Maybe the breeders didn't know? Emmy has it too. None of her parents nor grandparents had it. She was a freak of nature thing but then again, she did have 2 big falls as a puppies that could make her kneecap pop out giving her that too...

    Poor Ike

Take Ike to Physio. They give you great exercise. Keep his weight down. Give him massages (the less tense they feel, the better it is).
  19. I don't think he has separation anxiety either... I think he is being a typical sookie puppy You don't have to praise the dog, but you can reward the pup's quiet behaviour but just simply letting him out. He will associate being quiet is the only way he can get out of his crate. Once he is out, if you have the need to praise him.. that's the time to do it. I don't praise Emmy for being quiet in the crate, but I reward her being quiet by giving her treats (through the crate) . But, the ultimate reward I give her, it to release her out of her crate though. But, that's what she wants. To be out. :D Does that make sense?
  20. Wait till summer and put ice cubes in the water bowl... Em loves it and it's great entertainment for me as I watch her try to get the ice ETA: The dogs are several water bowls laid out for them.. they are never without water.
  21. Charlie here. If I have to go outside. So does my parents... I mean, I do need them to carry me outside. *snicker* But, HuDaddy is nice enough to let me do my business on the concrete but HuMummy ignores my protest. She just gives me the "LOOK" and tell me to do my business. I make her stay out longer for that... *pawprint* ------- Hi Hi Em here! I love the cold!!! Colder the better!! It's so much fun I have to go inside to tell the parentals know how awesome it is!!! squeeeeeeeeeeeeeee *pawprint* (because Charlie said I should!)
