  1. Yeah. When I'm at work or am out, I keep Charlie and Emmy separated. Charlie gets the front of the house and Emmy gets the back of the house. They are only together when there is someone there to supervise. This weekend, Charlie will be having a sleep over at the boyfriend's brother's house and Emmy will be spending the day with me, while we go visit some friends. Crate training update... I moved position on Emmy's crate in the bedroom and she actually stayed in there!! She didn't even care that Charlie was in bed with me. I gave her pig ear and she was happy noming it on it in her crate and had a little snooze in there.. fingers cross this last! Huh.. I never thought of positioning of the crate. With Charlie, I can put the crate anywhere and he just goes in there. But, late at night, she did end up sleeping in the bed with me. We both get up twice a night to take her outside to do her toilet training
  2. Thanks guys.. I'm going to try everything you guys suggestions. Even crate her at night so she sleeps in there (the boyfriend isn't going to like that.. he likes his little girl sharing the pillow with him ) I'm going swap Emmy's and Charlie's crate around. Charlie doesn't care where we put his crate as long as he can see me. Here is a photo of the two sharing Charlie's living room bed...
  3. Didn't let Petsforce at all! try pet deli. I use these guys and they never stuffed up my orders.
  4. Screams her head off. Which we ignore... but then Charlie will start barking crazy, get out of his crate and race around her crate. I've taken Charlie outside when this happens and he will rush into where she is. Shut her into the crate.. give her lots of yummy stuff and make her realise it is HER space.. cos she's shut in she then can't go to charlies and will soon learn it is HER space. You need to be firmer with her now or she'll walk all over you later. Yes it's cute now but it won't be when you are dealing with seperation anxiety or a very upset dog if Charlie's illness happens to take him early. Be tough and be consistent about where she sleeps. IMHO if you're going to crate train her, that's where she should be at nights too.. it would confuse the heck out of my pup if i made him sleep in the crate during the day but on the human bed at night! That's true.
  5. swap the bedding so Emmy has charlies bedding in her crate so she gets used to sleeping in her own crate That's the first thing we tried... she will go back to Charlie's crate. We even put his living room bed into her crate too... she wasn't buying it. i love a puzzle..ok so what is different between Charlie's crate and Emmy's crate? ets i agree that you need to be firmer with Emmy too Nothing. I bought Emmy's crate the same place I bought Charlie's. Physically, the only difference is the boyfriend's cut the bottom of the crate for Charlie so he doesn't have to step over to get in, he just simply walks in. Charlie has a cardboard on the bottom of his crate underneath is blanket. Emmy's crate has foam instead of cardboard. But she has the same blanket (but her's is pink and Charlie's has a green one). You think it can be that? In honesty, Emmy's crate looks more inviting than Charlie's.
  6. She will sit in front of Charlie's crate and bark. We ignore. Charlie is trying to open his crate door. She ends up falling asleep next to his crate. We have put the crate side by side to each other. Sometimes that work. Right now, our solution is to let her sleep in Charlie's living room bed and put Charlie's crate next to it. She seems happy with that, but what's the point of crate training her then? It's just hit me that I've got to be more firmer on Emmy about this! I just want her crate trained so it won't be a problem when I take her away on camping and I know there are times where I need her in her crate because my friends kids come over and they are going through their terrible 2 and 3 stage right now. I don't want them to go near her when they are brats. Usually at night they sleep on my bed with me (and sometimes the boyfriend).. so that's not problem.
  7. swap the bedding so Emmy has charlies bedding in her crate so she gets used to sleeping in her own crate That's the first thing we tried... she will go back to Charlie's crate. We even put his living room bed into her crate too... she wasn't buying it.
  8. Agree with this. I agree with this too. It's not like she is scared of her crate or anything.. she sometimes goes in there and just sits in there and looks out (because Charlie does this and she copies)... but if wants to snooze, she will get out and goes into Charlie's. And, this could lead to bitey face that could lead to rough play, which leads me to get her out of the crate, which leads to her throwing a tantrum, which leads to Charlie barking... and it's just one very noisy mess. I will look into Susan Garretts DVD.
  9. Both Charlie and Emmy have their own crates. Problem is... Emmy loves Charlie's crate as much as Charlie loves his crate! Just like, Charlie and Emmy have their own bed that's in the living room... Emmy loves Charlie's bed as much as Charlie loves his bed. I often find them either in the crate snoozing together or in Charlie's bed snoozing together (it's very very cute!) Charlie kinda crate trained himself and is sorta crate training Emmy (she copies him!). Emmy will only go in her crate to get the treat or toy in her crate, to take it back to Charlie's crate to eat or play with... doesn't matter if Charlie is in there or not. Any advice on how to get Emmy to stay in her own crate. I know there is a simple solution to this, but right now, I can't see it!
  10. Umm... I'm keeping Emmy and Charlie separate at the moment. Emmy has one half of the house and Charlie has the other half. With Charlie... he just sleeps. I know this because the meds that he is currently taking will knock him out for the rest of the day. Plus, he gets the front glass sliding door, and he gets to watch people and cars going pass the house. He loves people watching. He is a very nosy neighbour! With Emmy... it's kong. It's different toys. It's dog bikkies scattered around the floor. She also got the full access to the backyard, and I've set up the bubble machine for her too. But, she is still young so she still sleeps a lot.
  11. I have a Japanese Spitz that I want to do agility with. She is only 10 weeks, but she is already incredibly fast and she is definitely a jumper (not that i encourage her to jump right now... but she is a tiny little thing and can already jump on the couch and bed!). Should be fun training her! I love watching Mini Poodles doing agility though... they do things so dainty and are so light on their feet. It's so cool to watch.
  12. Yes, I have one. I will have to ask the boyfriend where he got it though. Not sure if he bought the screen door separately and installed the doggie door himself or he got the door like that.
  13. I have non slip socks and slippers for Charlie and Emmy. They loves it... well, Emmy did after she got use of them. We have hardwood floor at home and they can slip and slide all over the place. I put it on at night for them because that's when they are mostly active. Daytime they are mostly sleeping or playing on the rug.
  14. congrates!!! that's awesome for you and Kyza!
  15. If Charlie has an upset stomach, I usually let him miss a meal. He wouldn't want to eat if he has an upset stomach anyway. Then, I will make him boil chicken and rice. I hope Fred gets better soon
  16. I really have to admire all the people who can put aside the emotions and can make that kind decision or have made that decision.
  17. that kinda sounds scary.
  18. I will never want any dog or other animal to ever have the 'Charles Wentworth Disease' I think this decision is a decision I will make when the time comes. But, it's great to read all your replies. Also, it's little comforting to know that you can ask for the body back.
  19. Wow.. 23 years old! That is so nice mita. Did they get the answers they needed on why she/how she lived that long? Knowing that they will return the body is some small comfort.
  20. just saw this thread. glad that she is going to be ok. sending her cuddles and quick healing vibe over
  21. Hmm... never thought about this point.
  22. Georgina is my specialist too with Charlie. Although, what he has is not neurological. All the other specialist at sash all have their hands in helping Charlie though.
  23. If your dog has a very very rare disease will you donate your dog's body to science? The specialist always ask me if I would consider donating Charlie's body to science after he passes away. A part of me says yes and the other part of me says no. Logically I will say yes, because then I will get all the answers on why he is like this and if he could help other dogs, then that will be awesome. The emotional side of me will say no... the thought of my little guy getting cut up and everything, just damn near kills me. I take Charlie for xrays every 6 weeks (his next appointment is tomorrow). Just to see if the condition as spread and see how fast it is spreading. Last xray showed that it has spread to his right hip and upper leg now. They are very amazed that he is up and about walking, and is a happy little fella (for people who doesn't know.. Charlie has a rare disease called Bone Vanishing Disease). I know in my gut that tomorrow they are going to say it's spread more.
  24. i love your photos!! she is definitely a stunner!!
