  1. Used in what situation? The situation he does best at?
  2. I agree. The dog did very well and did it while treading water some of the time. I just don't think it should have been there for that arrest. There was enough human cops flailing around in the water and to add a dog to the mix just made it so much more dangerous for everyone. He had no idea who was supposed to be the aggressor and who was supposed to be the one arresting the aggressor. They were all fighting in a big pile. All were aggressors in his eyes. And he did his job trying to break up a fight as he has been taught. In that situation I bet he didn't even know which one was his handler - until they came out of the water and he allowed his handler to pull him out of the mess. I don't think anyone here thinks the dog is a bad police dog - he was just a weapon deployed that should have remained uncocked for that situation. I would also put money on some of the injuries sustained by the police officers to be also from friendly fire from their buddies. Very difficult to see anythng with water and spray and lights in your face. Was that also misdirected aggression or just missing the target and getting a buddy instead? If the situation had been a guy in the water, a handler and a dog (with the lights so we could see the action) and the dog run in front of the handler to stop the guy. And when the dog does his job, the guy gets arrested by the handler. But from the footage it was much more exciting than that. If he has had the right training and right blood lines, I agree, he would have gone to sleep in his crate soon after and forgotten about it. This leads to another question - I have seen many PP dogs get trained, have participated as well, and watch countless videos. How much police training goes into this type of situation (ie a pile of fighting bodies - some cops and some crims)? I don't imagine it is ever done. This is as opposed to having a dog stop a man with the handler behind the dog, generally egging it on. You seem to agree and then disgree. I think you are full of it. How would you have done better? Lights on!! Lights off! Water! No water! What if? What if? The dog responded just the way he should have against a dickhead who took the time to give the finger to police on more than one occasion, threatened his handler and prior the public.
  3. He was working Rosetta. Have you observed a dog 'in work"? They dont think of anything else. It does not even cross their minds, it is what they do, what they love and they are geared for. They do it well.
  4. The jet ski connects with the offender at the same time or just prior to the dog moving in. ( the dog swam through surf with his very own motor) I think this dog is incredible. Helicopeters, spot lights, surf, jet ski, dark, god knows what the verbal content involved, a'tosser' out there threatening this dogs handler and beforehand the public. I bet this gorgeous dog was soon after legs in the air just chilling out before his next "job". How anyone can insinuate that this dog did not behave to the very best of his ( and his handlers) ability under very volitile circumstances is beyond me! ETA Better ban jet skis as well!
  5. Yes, no different from Guide Dogs who are happy, well adjusted dogs who get up to all sorts of mischeif (normal dog stuff) when not in harness. They dig, bark, chew, hump and do what dogs "do". Put their harness on and they shift immediately in 'work'. Different dog altogether.
  6. That is the most ridiculous post/opinion I have ever encountered (and I have seen a few). How on earth have you surmised that the dog redirected to his handler from that footage?
  7. Honestly, that dog is outstanding and a credit to his handler. There is no way on earth the handler would knowingly put their dog into a situation the dog is not able to handle. They adore their dogs. The dog has obviously connected (biten) the offender and during the struggle his handler. It happens at times. How many people are biten trying to break up a fight between their own dogs! Well said OSO :) and Mita
  8. I don't believe a word of it Mogda, she looks like an angel  (I am kidding of course!)
  9. There's the culprit! Gosh, she is gorgeous Mogda! What is her name? You are doing a fab job, Cosmolos advice and puppy booklet is fantastic. Love the idea of throwing an apple to play with Pers, I have never thought of that, must try it. Nylabones are also great Mogda, you can pop one in her crate.
  10. Frozen treats are also great to entertain and stimulate. You can feed part of her meal this way. You will need to stick with her same diet and perhaps add gradually to it as she is only little. I still feel like I hold a kindy class with my own dogs and they are 15 years, 12 years and 4 years. A puppy is not on the cards at all lol. Bandits!
  11. You are in good hands with K9pro, it is great you have touched base. Pushing her away when she jumps up is probably a reward for your puppy. A game if you like, simply put you are better off turing away from her and offering no contact (even when she jumps) at all rather than pushing her away. Pour your heart out to K9pro and let them know that you are finding this very difficult. I am sure they will offer some solutions to assist you and your sons puppy short term. You know what I think, I think your puppy will be a model canine citizen in no time as you are a commited dog owner. I bet we see pics of her batting her eyelids and looking like an angel :) ETA I would not ignore or tolerate biting at all. 'Jumping up' was just an example.
  12. I agree with others, great advice in this thread. It is really fantastic that you are so committed :) My parents Goldie was wicked as a puppy! though Mum and Dads lives revolved around her and she was incredibly spoilt. As she matured people would comment on what a beautiful dog she was, Annie would bat her eyelids, noone could believe the mischeif she got up to. Puppies are easily distracted, so when toileting her take the time needed. She may go two or three times. HW suggestion of sitting on a chair outside with her is perfect. Limit the rooms she has access to while inside, it will be easier to supervise her. It is certainly time for this little lady to learn some boundries. Empty cardboard boxes are free and a great way to entertain, when she has finished just pop it all in the recycle bin. A great trainer will be a huge assest for all, you will feel much more confident in guiding her. If you have time, pics are a must! Good Luck. p.s the idea of drugs at her tiny age is a real concern. Give K9pro a call.
  13. One word. Sociopath or better still socialised sociopath. People that are admired and even respected in their line of work and the community yet are incapable of any feeling or empathy/love toward another human being, let alone animal. Discusting individual.
  14. Assistance dogs are any breed or type. There are a multitude of dogs based on temperament/training who can assist you. Are you looking at an approved assistance dog? or are you looking to train a dog for assistrance yourself? (sorry I have not had time to read your prior posts)
  15. Now I am confused as I spoke with ploice not so long ago and asked what would happen if my home was broken into and my dogs bit/attacked the theif. He said that I could be sued by the theif and held responsible He said that there have been cases like these. Our dogs are inside like yours if I am not home.
  16. Thanks Anna xx I have been out of the rescue loop for a while now. I was sent this via email and as it appears to be local and knowing how many Greys are surrendered to HP I was interested. I have to admit I did not look into any further details. What are the aspects (of this inquiry) which are most problematic?
  17. OSO, there are some funny signs. I have a sign saying "please do not enter, sound car horn" though I am on acres. We had an issue with a meter reader and two very social friendly dogs years and years ago which I reported. I self read after that. If I wasn't home to witness what happened I would not have liked to think what damage he could have done to my dogs.
  18. Sorry, I don't know how to post the whole article, hope the link works. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/2013/11/15/05/54/nsw-inquiry-to-examine-greyhound-racing
  19. Free running is the best.Dogs can be dogs. I never go to dog parks though, always at home (acres) two of my dogs have great recall we are still working on the third though she is doing well so far :)
  20. Monkey Pants! Funny Bugs, at least we are able to laugh afterwards
  21. Our place often looks like a doctors waiting room on a saturday  toys all over the place. Fern is a shocking theif and can reach most places. My Mum was staying with us and left some breakfast things on the bench. I was greeted with baby spinach down the hallway leading to my room, on the bed was chook and duck eggs (some whole, some eaten) a tea bag and more baby spinach scattered over the bed Ferns crate is always full of random things. Bella my Kelpie is not into toys, though recently herded one of our chooks up three stairs, along the deck and into the house. I had a mirror leaning on the wall and the funny bird was admiring herself in it  Billy is always hiding his toys from Fern. They drive me nuts at times though we laugh a lot in this house!
  22. Because God forbid more than one person talks sense about the issue. Your last thread on this was proved to be nothing but a hoax, according to police, and you still want to push it? It's just absolutely mind boggling that there are people aggressively pushing this idea, getting irrationally defensive of it when it's questioned, and all without any evidence whatsoever. Rilla-My-Rilla, my advice would be to first confirm whether any dogs have been stolen and haven't escaped or otherwise gone missing. Then look at all the possible reasons a dog might be stolen. There's no use wasting your time on something that is an extremely rare occurrence when there are other, more likely scenarios to consider. Just last night on a missing dog's poster the first comments were: What a comfort that is to the owner of the missing dog. I always knew you had an agenda (more to the point) a problem. Let me ask Plan .B some VERY SIMPLE questions! Do you live in the Hawkesbury area? If so, did you speak with Police as I did? Why is it that you dimiss complaints? In ANY nature? you sprout evidence, proof and facts. Where is it love???
  23. Dogs might be getting stolen, but what I'm wondering is if there's any evidence that these thefts are for dog fighting. The attendance of those people doesn't necessarily mean anything - if there's enough public outcry over something then they have to respond and speak to people about it. I'd assume this is it. Part of the reason I'm asking is that I'd like to read about it if there is evidence. Evidence! Is there any evidence that 'entire' dogs adopted from shelters contribute to unwanted/unplanned litters? ML you rely upon "evidence" (unless you are going by US) anyone involved with AW in Aust knows any evidence at all is non existant. Councils are not even able to regulate basic chipping and rego of dogs in Aust!
