You would be shocked with what has already happened. Imagine the worst, over and over and over again. Rescue will be picking up the peices for years and years on end. Blame everyone else! It's the vets fault, It's the foster carers fault, its the transport companies fault, it's the kids fault, it's the dogs fault, it's the new owners fault, they have no respect for a animal welfare or the public full stop. No one has ever seen anything like it, simply mindblowing.

There are huge problems with this group. If my conversations with people who have adopted/fostering dogs from this group is anything to go by they will be abused, attacked or gulit tripped if they dare speak up. Multiple rescue groups across the country are being contacted to take dogs people are not able to cope with. A large number of dogs have been surrendered to pounds and shelters in other states, some have been pts. This group do hold a 16d, which they use to pull dogs.

Larissa, contact Shelter Manager Kellie Colley on 45604644 urgently. There are massive ongoing problems with this group.

Just A Heads Up. They're Back! It's Snake Season Again
Nic.B replied to LizT's topic in General Dog Discussion
I thought I would bump up this thread as it is that time of year again It is warm here today, along with the warmth, flowers and great things about warmer weather, snakes are out and about. We had a shocker of a year with snakes last year. Stay safe everyone. -
Hi Cyntah I am very sorry to hear what you are currently going through with your girl I have not met the dog in question, she may very well deserve a home to live out her days, she may also be a very nice dog. What I dont agree with, is the emotive, manipualitive language they have used to guilt people. I agree she should be release to rescue only. There was no disclosure of the tumor, there were no temp notes added (infact this particular group REMOVE temp notes, steal the photos then make up their own story without having met the dog.) They then rake in a huge number of donations and send the dogs into homes directly from the pound with no checks or support.

This is from this morning on Pound Rounds site. They had not met the dog. I have no words. This group is your worst nightmare and should be dragged through evey court for what they have done to rescue dogs, families, their pets and their children. "Do I look a bit fuzzy? I guess at age 84 we all get a bit fuzzy don't we dear. I hope I am not inconveniencing you too much dear but I am having a problem. I am spritely - we staffys live til we are 140 so at 84 I'm just a loving spring chicken with a bit of sunshine in my step. but here is my problem that I am hoping a few Facebook friends can help me out with. You see they are going to kill me. Now I know your Aunty melody have never been the prettiest girl at the dance and I have never been the smartest girl or the most popular, but that's because I thought all I had to be was a good dog. Somewhere along the way they changed the rules and I got downsized into a kill pound and in a couple of hours ol Aunty Melody gets jabbed with a green needle that will kill me. Aside from not knowing at all why, because I was always a good dog, I am really hoping this note reaches you in time to help me. God love you for taking time to read this and care about me. Any help you can provide would be sincerely (really really) appreciated. Warmest Regards, Aunty Melody" This was written for a 12 year old Staffy cross female this morning. She had a tumor on her leg.

I am so very sorry for your loss, Run free sweet soul Teebs for us, being honest is very important. Not necessarily about details of death, just their passing. I have been through this with a dear old Shepherd who was surrendered to the pound at 12 years. He lived out his days with us. We all adored Old Ray though Hannah my youngest and Old Ray were inseparable. Old Ray taught my daughter how to speak (she was selectively mute). Hannah and I did lot of symbolic things together for Old Ray once he passed. Hannah still sleeps with Old Rays photos which are hung up on her bed, she still has his collar and she still talks about Old Ray. I do believe the soul moves on and that there is a beautiful place for our loved ones. We drew pictures and Hannah told me Old Ray had a lot of children playing with him in heaven. She saw Old Ray in the clouds and knew he was watching over all of us. It was very comforting for Hannah, we put a Christmas decoration of Old Ray on the tree every year made by a truly beautiful DOLer Let preschool and school know, teachers are a wonderful support. There are some beautiful books explaining death of pets and loved ones at your library or a good book shop. My thoughts are with you all, Hugs and love xxx

Shell pools is another option we have considered for smaller litters and Mum's, thanks :) Thanks re the info on heat lamps as well Jed :) These females are in whelp when impounded and need to do the required impound time (7-14 days). If/when they are able to move into a DOC placement they do their impound time in care rather than at the shelter. The owners can still reclaim mum and puppies during DOC. My most recent rescue was in early whelp and was only 10 months old. I followed my vets advice and the puppies were removed (3 & 1/2 weeks) Not a nice decision to make at all, though her well being was my priority. The vet called to let me know she had 10 potential puppies, I honestly dont think she would have been able to cope with such a large litter.

Wow! That is amazing Pers, I have never seen a box like that!! I might now end up with a box obsession  That looks ideal, The cardboard would help insulate as well, size and depth looks great compared to the pallet in the pic. Thank you :) and as you say we would be able to throw it out afterwards, which is great for disease control.
-
Thank you :) Fibreglass sounds great and very easy to clean and bleach, no gaps or joins which is ideal. We do have a storage container we can use. What size would you recommend for a large breed female and say medium size female? Roughly how much would they cost? Sorry for all the questions. The tarp is a great idea, we do have sheets we put up. I was even thinking of a screening blind on the front of the pen gate that we can roll up during closing time (12.30 - 2pm) when it is quiet and there are no members of the public. I agree it is often a very stressful time for mum

Hi Everyone, Just doing a little bit of research on whelping boxes for use in pounds and shelters. As we are talking a pound/shelter environment the materials used for a whelping box are crucial as it will need to be very well cleaned and bleached after use, and then stored. Also, does anyone have information on heat lamps? the safest way to use them in a shelter/pound environment (mum is unattended during evenings) and a rough idea of cost please for both please, or perhaps how difficult it would be to have two whelping boxes made.... Obviously it is best practice for mum and bubs to move out asap under DOC, though at times we do not have a rescue available to take them on immediately. Mum and bubs may spend anything from a week or two at the shelter. They are often put in a double gated pen, so that the public cannot touch/reach mum or bubs, this also helps mum feel more secure. Any advice or suggestions greatly appreciated :)

Terrible I would be shaken and upset as well. I remember two Rotties coming in with rangers a while ago. They were beautiful dogs, a neighbour reported a dog attack as they were chasing a man down the street. These dogs were gorgeous, well mannered and very well cared for. They were chipped, called the owner and she was there in a heartbeat. Turns out they were both inside, someone broke into the house, freaked when they saw the dogs, opened the door and ran. The dogs took off after him bless them. Needless to say things were resolved very quickly and they became heros :) Their owner was incredible. I remember her sitting on the concrete crying her heart out when she saw them impounded. It was heart breaking. I hope you are safe all and sound now, be extra careful just in case.

I used to soak my horses tails in sump oil before I went back to boarding school each term. It would keep their tails knot free while i was gone and then I would soak the tails in sunlight soap at the start of the hols to get it out. Old bushies trick! Very clever! Love the old bushies tricks :) Mummbles is a shocker, his mane and tail tangles in a flash.

Yes Winterpaws could end up with this. Instead of this Winterpaws i love that fence. It looks nice and sturdy and at the end of the day i always think if it's worth doing it's worth doing right the first time. Even though at the time it is expensive it is worth the peace of mind. Little monkey!
-
Looks Fantastic! Nice and sturdy as well :) at sump oil on ponies and pants.
-
I have never used it though lots of people do. You can paint the entire fence with it, it protects the timber and also oils it
-
Yes, I love their fencing and he is such a great guy, very down to earth and brilliant in what he does. We have heard so many fantastic things from very happy customers. I cant seem to see the pics of your new place, though it sounds like heaven I love rustic! it is so rewarding to do little things and then enjoy :) Our place has certainly kept me out of mischief  If I could go back 14 years I would have taken before and after photos, I wish I had thought of that. If you get a chance get some photos, you will be blown away with the difference you will make :)

Oh I am so in love with those gates!!!! They are pretty fancy gates, gorgeous. We wont be having those gates, just a single gate. I will have to take pics when they are done.

We paid about 15K 3 years ago for a bit over 330m of 6 foot cyclone fencing fully installed with 3 gates (two double). It was properly installed too, with the posts in concrete and strainers etc plus standoffs around the outside to keep livestock off it. It was expensive, and we've only just finished paying the personal loan off we took out to fund it, but the peace of mind has been worth its weight in gold. We've never had a dog get out and it's still in really good condition. Agree with Sir WJ re doing it thoroughly the first time. Wow that's exspensive So that would roughly be about $45.50 per m..looks like we will be saving for a bit more time then, as we really wan't it for our house yard & we love it in black. We don't need 330m so it will be a little cheaper, so hopefully it hasn't gone up in price too much in 3 years. We currently just have farm fencing with chicken wire half way up. I just recieved the quote for our front fence and it is a tad under $14,000! though I feel better now reading your post. Its timber post and rail fence, also dog proof. What are you using for your mesh? I am estimating our house yard will be around $3k by the time I buy mesh, gates, posts and rails. We're hoping to do a large portion ourselves though We are using chicken wire, I dont know what brand though. It's good stuff, buried two feet under the ground. The front fence is different to our other fencing, it's nicer because its our front entrance. Its 90 meters of fencing. My Husband does all the hotwiring. This is the fence, http://www.giddiup.com.au/rural-properties.html though the entrance will be different to the one in the link. Its a bit hard to explain, though we need it a certain width at the entrance for the float, any trucks etc (hope that makes sense) The rest of the boundary fencing will be timber posts and two star pickets in between (you can buy caps for the star pickets) and hotwired as our neighbours will be putting their goats in their paddock once its finished.

Congrats on your new home! Acreage is wonderful, at night we can see every star though cant see our hand in front of our face unless we have moonlight  and hear every frog or other critters :) Get a good torch if you dont already have one. We have about two acres of house yard. Post and rail fencing with chicken wire and a hotwire running between the chicken wire and top post, about 5cm in from the chicken wire. I love having the house yard, it is great to be able to check for any nasties (snakes) in a smaller area. I can do everything possible to ensure our dogs are safe. Once we do our front and other boundary fence we will have a dog proof property, though we have lived here 14 years now so have had heaps of time. We have just made sure all rural fencing as replaced was also dog proof each time. Wishing you much happiness, peace and enjoyment in your new home :) I can take pics, though will have to email them to you as I am no good with DOL and adding pics

Blacktown Pound Compulsory Desexing
Nic.B replied to Mila's Mum's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Honestly, I can not see this becoming an issue, it is absurd to say the least and lets just say this persons track record leaves a lot to be desired. He has been investigated by relevant authorities in the past. The amount of work that was put into Blacktown to ensure all adopted animals are desexed is incredible, the people involved have done a fantatic job. I dont think anyone will has a hope of standing in their way now :) Dogmad the guy is living on another planet, the good news is Hawkesbury is not very far away from desexing all adopted dogs :) -
The only thing that I would add is that it would probably best for this owner not to be listening to an ipod while walking the dogs. I think in that position, I would like to hear and see everything going on around the dogs and I for their own welfare and others.
