I have to say that Jill has been an enormous support in communicating, identifying and working through issues with this particular group. We are moving through unchartered waters, none of us have ever seen anything like this before. It was bound to happen as it has in the US. I don’t agree with the statement that because they take a large number of dogs and they are mostly similar breed mixes that they will experience more problems. We all know and work with ethical rescues who take these dogs week in week out. The difference is they don’t take EVERY SINGLE dog EVERY SINGLE week from TWO LARGE POUNDS kill list . They take what they can RESPONSIBLY manage and are resourced to take on. Seriously if this was the answer we would all be dancing about and perhaps we would have a life! I am not able to share the information we have though something will be done. I wouldn’t want to be in Melanie Normans shoes, nor would I want to be associated with the most incompetent “rescue” group in the history of this Nation.

Believe it or not, They pull the dog out under clause for members of the public with no checks or temp information on the dogs, send them all over the countryside and the people pay pound rounds the adoption fee of $180. Even dogs listed as "release to rescue only" are being pulled under clause and put straight into homes.

I wonder if this dog has also been sent to Victoria like they usually do when the heat gets too much . The attack happened in VIC, the dog was sent from a pound in NSW to VIC. Unbelieveable

Only very recently Sheridan, up until now they have been scathing of other rescues as no one will work with them. As T has said, a small handful of rescues have always recieved financial benefits as they tow the line with pound rounds.

I would love to share your enthusiasm Jill though they have no choice. There are a number of authorities hot on their tail and they know it. I wonder if Melanie Norman pays the $2000 in vet bills for the dog which was attacked recently by a dog chipped to her which she refuses to pay? I spoke with this lady today and she has been through hell and back.

... except the fact that the majority of rescues I know of can't agree on a common set of policies or procedures... *grin* T. Why do you need to? If you can agree on what makes an ethical rescue (and there seems to be enough people here that do) then what difference does it make if you don't have an exact same set of common policies and procedures? I agree. Working out policies, procedures and a minimum standard of care is the least of our worries atm!

How do they do desexing and vaccination, worming etc for $150? I'd be theorising that maybe it isn't done at all in many cases... T. From HP a C5 top up (from C3) if they are lucky and a desex. Regardless it is done with donations from the public.

I agree the time has come for basic standards and policy to be put in place. At the very least a consumer or even a shelter can pick reputable groups from the rest.

The other aspect of great concern re fundraising is the emotive, manipulative language used to guilt peopple to donate. When you think about it, she has an open market, I have never seen it done before. Of course the same emotive, manipulative language is also used to guilt people into taking untested dogs.

Spot on Hardys Angel, this group will be long gone though there will be fallout for years and years to come. There has been another dog attack. This time the dog attacked two on lead dogs and bit a child. Melanie Norman picked the dog up and as usual they disapear off the face of the earth.

It is difficult for me to share this info, as much as I would like to. There are a number of lines of enquiry being made. I am happy to discuss more via email :) [email protected]

I agree. Their fundraising is not transperant in any way shape or form which I understand is required. People have the right to ask questions, instead they are deleted. My understanding is also that when fundraising you are not able to give a biased or one sided impression of the organisation. We have multiple screen shots. Even restricted breeds listed NFS and pts are being promoted on the site. Sadly your average member of the community does not have the knowledge that we have.

It is way beyond a misguided rescue IMO Aussielover. As Jill has said, they take in huge amounts of money on behalf of pound dogs. Some of these dogs are safe with rescue yet they continue to raise money, some dogs are listed as NFS yet they put them up as available now. Dogs that they have raised money for are sitting in pounds and shelters in other states. Dogs listed as 'release to rescue' only are being pulled and put straight into an adoptive home. None of the rescues I have spoken with have ever recieved any donations. You would be a fool to be involved with or accept money from this group.

Yep, suck people in and spit them out. Save them all at ANY cost.

I am not able to comment much on this, though steps have been taken. It appears it is quite a process. If anyone is able to offer legal advice or has experience with the DLG regarding a clause 16d it would be greatly appreciated. [email protected] Thanks, I know Beth :)

Pound Rounds!

PCC 607 listed as needing a home. The dog is NOT FOR SALE. When a volunteer posted on PR's page the dog is NFS her comments were deleted. People are donating money for this dog and want to help her. I expect this page will be deleted once they find out it is here, thank god for screen dumps. ETA This page has not been deleted, instead they changed the wording to say RIP instead of AVAILABLE FOR REHOMING NOW. I will try to put up the screen dump. You can see the dog is on a pole. ETA again!

Yes Juice, there is enormous concern for the dogs. PR's copy all photos taken by temp testers to use on their site though delete all temp notes, make up their own story and the dog is pulled by them.

Yes

Very wise, Nic. I've heard really decent, on-the-ground rescue groups comment on how carefully they operate by those conditions.... as they don't want to have the clause taken away. So there must be a complaints process somewhere.... Yes, the best of the best, reputable rescuers work over and above the clause day in, day out. I dont have a clause and do the same.
-
Yes, I would say pound rounds have the paperwork and the people are having trouble getting the dog put into their name. I wonder if this is the dog where PR's stated that the dog needed extensive dental surgery and raised a massive amount in donations? Turns out the dog only needed a standard dental.

I wonder what conditions are laid down to be able to pull dogs using this? I'd have expected it can only be 'on the ground' rescue groups, Rescue and assessment & placement of dogs needs to be firmly located in the real world. But this seems to be organised differently. That's the million dollar question Mita. Going by the conditions set out in the clause, they are breaching the clause on multiple counts. Wish I could elaborate further, though I have to be careful in what I say.
