  1. Well, that was an interesting experiment. Our "garbage guts" (part lab), who I thought would inhale them, spat them out! Our girl, who is a delicate, and sometimes fussy eater, nibbled delicately, and decided that they were okay. I then ate one in front of "garbage guts" to show him that they were edible, so then he thought they were okay. Our girl was scrambling for more. They only got two each, as I didn't want to risk upset tummie, but it just shows that you cannot always predict what your dogs will/will not like!
  2. Thank you. Dogs usually pretty much get kibble and raw meaty bones, so I've never really thought about fruit/veg they can or cannot have. But, I have read onions and tomatoes are a no-no, which is what prompted me to check. Off to give them just a few to see if they like them.
  3. Just want to check that strawberries are okay for dogs to eat, before I give a couple each to our dogs. And, if they are okay, do I have to remove the green hull/husk bit???
  4. Bonnie Adult here. With two large dogs (~30 kg each), it just became to expensive to feed Hills. Each dog eats 3-4 cups of food a day, so a 20kg bag lasts roughly a month, give or take. Cost of a 20kg bag is $40-$50 (usu closer to $40 if you time the specials right) from PetBarn. ETA - as much as I would like to feed raw, one dog doesn't tolerate it.
  5. Thank you for all the replies. The dog has been groomed a few times by a groomer, it is just exceedingly difficult to get an appointment. The owner has worked hard on handling the dog since it was a puppy - it is used to being handled all over, used to sounds of hair dryer, etc, and was taken to the groomers so it would be used to the sounds. The coat is well maintained - brushed daily, and combed out about every other day, so it is not matted. It gets the occasional knots, but these are dealt with as soon as they are found. And, the owner understands the importance of a clean dry coat if the dog is to be clipped, they are probably just a bit hesitant about their ability.
  6. A friend has a maltese cross poodle. They live in an area where there are few groomers. Is it possible for a "normal" (ie., non-groomer) to learn to clip their own dog? They dog want to keep the coat ultra short - just slightly short and a little bit shaggy. If it is possible, what sort of clippers/blades should they be looking for? How much are they looking at spending. They are a bit freaked out at the thought of using clippers, as they are fearful that they might cut the dog - how much of a possibility is this? The dog is very used to being handled, is normally trimmed with scissors, but has been clipped a few times.
  7. I can sympathise with you with an itchy dog. Our girl gets itchy every summer. Pretty much everyone I spoke to recommended oatmeal/aloveen... however, it turns out that our girl is sensitive to oatmeal!!! We end up using pyohex(sp) as soon as she gets itchy, but failing that, it is off to the vet for anti-histamines.
  8. Nope, another one here (with a sighthound mix) who is more than capable of flinging whilst sitting. And yes, they definitely hurt when they hit your shin... or elbow or chin. I cannot believe how fast our girl is at flinging sometimes. Another one here with the same problem, who has pretty much given up on ever being able to teach our girl to retrieve. At this stage, I would honestly settle for a hold for a nano-second, so I could actually click and reward.
  9. I haven't posted, but have been following this, and hoping and praying that little Orange would find her way home. RIP little one.
  10. http://www.news.com.au/national/two-year-old-boy-missing-after-apparently-wandering-off-mildura-property-police-say/story-fndo4cq1-1226511902546 Frantic search for missing toddler in Mildura by: Angus Thompson From: Herald Sun November 07, 2012 7:40AM UPDATE: A TWO-YEAR-OLD boy missing in Mildura regularly wanders up to 1km from home, police say. The boy was last seen playing with his German Shepherd, named Dasher, at his Deakin Ave house located about 15km from the northwest Victorian town at about 8.30pm last night. Police believe the boy and his dog wandered off the property, which is located between Twentieth and Twentyfirst streets, and is situated near farmland and state forest. Mildura police, the dog squad and SES volunteers have joined the search. The boy's family said he regularly wanders away from home. "The child can wander for up to 1km away from home and end up at neighbours who subsequently bring the child back. Unfortunately on this occasion the child’s still missing," Sgt Gary Matthews told 3AW radio. "It was a mild night and while the property is not remote, it certainly backs onto farms and vineyards, and there is some state forest in the area." The boy is described as Caucasian, with blonde hair and blue eyes. Police are urging anybody who sees the boy or the dog to call triple zero immediately.
  11. These are in NSW or QLD, but would ship. Not sure how they compare price-wise to others, but offer them as a starting point, just in case you cannot find anything else... http://www.kennelsolutions.com.au/dog_kennel_kits/premier_kennel_kits.html http://www.kennelsolutions.com.au/dog_kennel_kits/chainlink_kennel_kits.html http://shop.vebopet.com.au/store/4-metre-triple-dog-run-fence-fencing-with-3-doors-1-5m-tall.html http://www.carringtonkennels.com.au/dogs.html - these guys are based in NSW, but they might be able to help you out with someone who supplies locally?
  12. Try contacting Animal Referral Hospital (now at Homebush) - they have a daschund with wheels, but I believe they also help "fit" client's dogs, if suitable. http://www.arhvets.com/
  13. Random thought - perhaps also contact pet transport agencies, just in case someone decides to "ship" the pup interstate???
  14. I only posted about the pug, as I thought the breeder, if they knew might be interested in getting their dog back. I did NOT post about another pug being rehomed by a registered breeder, as I could not see any problems with that at all.
  15. I have since checked forum rules, and they do state no links to ads on other sites. I was also mistaken - dog isn't FTGH - owner wants $600 for the dog. Sorry, I'm not comfortable emailing someone that I don't know, if that makes me a chicken, then so be it. Just checked the ad - I guess it's something at least that the dog is desexed.
  16. Thought that a breeder might want to know that their dog is being rehomed... sorry, didn't see price. Link now removed.
  17. Not sure if this is the right place to post - please let me know if inappropriate & I will remove. Pure Breed Female Pug with Pedigree Papers 4yo. Thought that a breeder might want to know that their dog is being rehomed...
  18. Very nice! May I ask where you got them from?
