  1. When walking my dog I often come across children who behave noisily around my dog: they make sudden movements, wave their arms running past . . Sometimes children come from behind, sometimes run rowards us . My dog gets frightened and growls. My other dogs also hated it. I am afraid that a child may come across a dog which would bite out of fear . I understand that children need to play and run and be noisy but they shouldn't do it in close proximity to dogs. Shouldn't school be teaching children proper behaviour around dogs?
  2. My dog is always on a lead as I do what I am suppose to do (and also because some "intelligent" people are prejudiced against this breed. Every Tom Dick and Harry lets their dogs run around, especially after 5pm and on weekends (when council sheriffs are comfy at home). Councils get paid good money, why can't they patrol suburbs after hours?? I feel sorry for my dog - while other dogs run free he is stuck with me. Anyways, they run up to him, tease him and run away; or attack him barking and dancing around him. As per usual their owners have a stupid excuse that their doggies don't like german shepherds. Sometime I feel like letting my dog run after them.
  3. it is so beautiful but also so sad The face expression of the dog was unbelievable. I bet this breed will become popular
  4. O good it works I forgot to press on "Close" (thanks a lot I am watching it now) this is a modernised version But I don't understand where the monk was sending the puppy in that crate(?)
  5. I heard about the story many times but was not aware there was a movie I am trying to download now, takes a long time, hopefully it will work

  8. my GSD goes crazy when a motorcycle goes by I am sure he would go after it if not on a leash
  9. This is the section of interest? "Main elements: The Domestic Animals Amendment (Dangerous Dogs) Bill 2010 will: Increase penalties relating to irresponsible dog ownership; Increase powers of Councils to control unregistered dangerous and restricted breed dogs; and, Make it easier to prosecute cases and to impound dangerous dogs. As the key stakeholders, local government will be consulted as the legislation is developed and progressed."
  10. Yes, like there are different people: good, bad, stable, emotionally unstable etc the same applies to dogs.
  11. and who knows maybe he did not have them from puppyhood maybe he became their owner when they were already somehow damaged psychologically through cruel treatment...
  12. I was thinking that perhaps when they were locked away for few years during court proceedings they becamse somehow damaged and unhappy?
  13. I don't understand why a rational animal would attack their owner who cares for them Unless... they were not treated humanely? But then like people maybe there are dogs with mental illness? Please help me make sense out of it http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/world/...article1454280/
  14. Yes, Yes video, can't wait to see it
  15. Gee, how many times I have heard when a small dog yapps at mine: "Sorry but he does not like German Shepherds". Never mind that my "monster" German Shepherd is on a leash and their little s..t is dancing around him. I feel like these dogs are racists against mine

  17. Well, in China (some Chinese only) inflict suffering as the torturers believe suffering releases adrenalin. Whatever the reason, dogs and cats are tortured so again they are commiting an evil act. The reason is to eat, but again the way these poor creatures are tortured before death is unbelievable
  18. Well the man IS evil. There is absolutely no excuse for cruelty. Absolutely nothing in his past would justify such behaviour. The dog was defenceless and is sweet natured. I bet the bastard would not attack an agressive dog who would retaliate.

  20. Well, I am talking about water from the kitchen as the kitchen is the closest. Water pressure would be solved by putting a bucket higher ie on a chair (I use several buckets) I rinse my dog by using an ice cream container and dip it in the bucket but still he does not like it and it is not possible to get to all parts of his body. I looked at a jerry can in Bunnings but taps are too small there. My dog hates washing so there is no way he would step into a bath. Thanks so much to everyone for various ideas which I will try.
  21. Dear Forum Members Our garden is far away from the kitchen, hence no access to warm water. Currently I fill a bucket with warm water at home and carry it to the garden. Then after washing my dog I rinse him directly from the bucket which scares the hell out of him. I would like to rinse him more gently and more thoroughly so I bought a bathroom shampoo sprayer. Also a sprayer would allow me to reach all placed in his body. The link below shows a sprayer similar to mine http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31Rg...L500_AA280_.jpg The problem is that I have to attach the end of the sprayer to my bucket (with warm water) so I need a tap. I searched the internet and went to Bunnings but they do not have buckets with taps; the only ones available are water carriers (for drinking water) with very small taps which do not fit standard sprayers. My question is whether anyone knows where to buy a normal laundry bucket with a standard size tap (doesn't have to be a bucket, could be a different container with a tap). I would be grateful for help.
  22. My dog was also given last time Rimadyl injection 50mg. Now I want to try everything: - spray the weed with metsulfuron and glyphosate (hopefully it won't damage other plants?) - and get some chooks - but it is a very big "BUT", how can I keep chickens and a big dog together? I would be heartbroken if my chickens were hurt by the dog. (I started giving him primrose oil) Below I am posting two links of wandering jew (for the member who asked what it looked like). It can grow to about 20cm; this weed can cover big spaces or odd ones can grow in grass. http://www.weeds.asn.au/weeds/txts/wand_jew.htm http://www.shoalhaven.nsw.gov.au/environme...ering_jew_1.jpg
  23. Yes, Persephone I washed him today with Aloveen Oatmeal shampoo and he seems a bit better. So looks like his allergy is not really being treated/targeted by my vet. His two other colleagues also prescribed the same for him; perhaps they just follow what the first vet did (?). I will try another vet. Souff, I raked the wandering jew and there are odd bits here and there and when the weed reappears again wth vengence I will definitely take up the offer with chickens My dog not only scratches but shakes his head - exactly the same symptoms as every year.
  24. Big Thank you for every entry: I took note of everything and will try everything. People here are so kind and helpful. My sister suggested covering whatever I raked with pieces of old carpet as well as black plastic bags; and tomorrow I am taking my dog to the vet.
