  1. I was at my vet who sells orijen and they seemd to think that it hasn't passed australian food regulations (words to that effect) yet and that's what the hold up is. I want to give it a try as mine are like the Eaglepack fish formula. I'm also using the regular Orijen too.
  2. I have been waiting to see if you can get the Orijen Fish Formula, but I never see it around. I heard that it can't be imported into Australia at the moment. Does anyone really know the scope about this? thanks
  3. One of mine got up one morning and didn;'t want to walk. He relucently walked a few steps and then wanted to sit. He would do this reapeatedly. He would have normally ran out the door, but just sat there looking like he wanted to run out but wouldn't. Went to the vet, checked him out, but found nothing wrong. After a few days it wasn't getting much better, so back i went again but saw a different vet. This time we took x-rays, again nothing wrong found. So we treated like a sore muscle/joint and he had a shot of metacam & it worked wonders. He was then on metacam (non-steriodal anti-inflammatory) for a few days and it took about another week for him to get back to his 100% self.
  4. so is just walking exercise too? boy that makes it tough. thats like being up for more than 2 hours before you leave them.
  5. I think the white ones get bleached to get that white. I wouldn't want to eat bleach either. I don't use them any more. someone told me they have a high salt content too.
  6. They are shih tzu cross something. (pls don't burn me, they were rescue dogs). thanks for your advice.
  7. My friend's dog is having their stomach stitch down so it can't twist anymore. I though it was good to give your dog a walk dog in the morning, and a feed so that they feel a bit more like sleeping (just like we like to snooze after eating). True, mine are little fellas and therfore the risk is small. Thanks
  8. A friend at work has a biggish dog (compared with my 8kg things) who had bloat recently. Seems to be getting better but still in care. I said I talk mine for a 30 minute walk, then I feed them some breakfast (this meal is about 40% of thier intake)when I have mine. We then sit and watch the news, read the paper etc before I leave for work about an hour later. They just lie around for this hour generally. They are normally looking very rested and sleepy when I leave. She said I shouldn't feed them after the walk (its just a walk, no frisbee or chasings or anything like that). Is that right? What is everyone's routine in the morning? is my routine bad?
  9. One of mine had a red itchy eye for a couple of day. he wanted to keep it closed abit too. I washed it with water acouple of time and tehn went to the vet. He had a injection of metacam (non-steriodal antiinflammaoty) & i used a cortisome eye cream for about 2 days & it cleared up. I'd go back to the vet it it is still present after 2 weeks. wandering dew i think it the worst weed for dogs.
  10. I have two adult little dogs and live in a split level home so going up & down stairs is a regular common event. Is there soem problem with dogs going up & down stairs that i don't know about?
  11. Go here for a good read about many of the dry kibble foods. www.dogfoodanalysis.com
  12. I am just trying my little dogs (shih tzu - 8kg) on Orijen. I think the kibble is harder than what they are used to and they seems to eat whole pieces of it without chewing. Obviously they r not hgetting the benefit for their tooth & gums, but is this bad for their stomachs? I'm paranoid about something like bloat and wonder if swallowing whole pieces without chewing might be bad for them. Any ideas? thanks
  13. I've just tried it on my two shih tzus. check out this site: it rates quite highly. http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ Mine are used to eaglepack and by comparision they find the orijen harder to chew and sometimes just swallow the whole piece whole rather than chew it. I think the ingredeints are better in orijen but am worried that they should chew each piece of kibble. I will see how they go. if i hand feed they chew each piece, but i can't do that forever. as you have a small breed too, i thought i'd share this with you.
  14. I was looking things up and found this site. It seems quite good. http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/
  15. One of mine is a bit the same with bones. I use dentastix and find that helps. I also just gets a toothbrush and brush his teeth a bit form time to time. I can't believe a powder you sprinkle on would really work. If it did why don't we use the same thing for our teeth. I imagine there are broadly two ways of getting plaque off. 1. mechanical - ie by brushing or chewing something. 2. by chemical eg. antibacterial mouthwashes (except a dog would just swallow this which wouldn't be good.
  16. I just bought a trial pack of Orijen. One ting i noticed was the kibble seems to be harder that the kibble I am used to (EP Fish). I only have little fella, and they seem not to chew it as much. it's only been a day so i shall see how it goes.
  17. I use the eaglepack fish formula & I don't think it has any corn. I would recommmend it. Just wondering with thr rise of the australian dollar, should'nt all our imported pet food from the US go down un price. I haven't noticed any price drop yet.
  18. Has anyone else seen this? http://www.secretdogconspiracy.com/dog-foo...hjPrKH7AyCxuptM Views pls, thanks.
  19. they ahve been going to the dog park for a couple of years now. One ignores all other dogs and the other is OK with all the dogs he already knows but its the new dog on the scene he has troulbe with. Do you mean going to a dog class (like puppy preschool) with my two dogs? Or would having a behaviourist over for a consult be better? A friend of mine had a behaviourist over for her anxiety-stress dog. I don't know which option would be best.
  20. I have two little fellas and when I go to the dog park with them, one does nothing but stare at me and the other plays a bit, BUT. But if there is a new big dog, he has the chase & bark at them. If the other dog turns and barks back, he goes all timid and almost cries. How can I get him to be friendlier to the bigger dogs. Once he knows the bigger dog, he is fine with them and will even play chasings. But his intial reaction to a new big dog is really ahrd to manage. Any ideas pls.
  21. it took about 3 hours after a bit of sleep and it got better. it was very strange. i'll never know what it was.
  22. One of my shih tzu crosses was in a disagreement with another dog lasy week. She had a sore back leg for a day and was a little shaken. Then all seemed well and have been pretty normal. We went for a walk this afternoon and she then ate dinner and went out a couple of times with out a problem. Then I noticed she didn't want to walk on one of her back legs and it had the shakes. A sort of tremor, or twitch. Sort of intermittent but ongoing. I was going to go to the afterhour vets if it didn't get better coz it looked really uncomfortable. But then an hour later after a bit of a sleep she seems much better. Even went for a little walk. Not 100% but much better. Any ideas on what it could be? Do dogs get cramps at all?
  23. Hey Bull, You do what I do in reverse. I usally feed EP holistic in the morning and then BARF patties in the evening. For variety, i will swap the patties to just plain meat (lamb or beef), or a lamb shank, or natures gift, or tinned fish instead, or a combo of the above with some veges. Must have some fun.
  24. I had the impression it was a new vaccine and cost a little bit more but only once every three years.
  25. I dropped by at my vets this afternoon and there on the counter was a info sheet re: vaccinations. Apparently there is a new three yearly vaccine for the C3. It is different i think to the annual ones. Kennel cough & heart worm are still annual. Has anyone had the new 3 yearly vaccines? How are they different to the annual ones?
