  1. Mozzies are real bad here at the moment. Does any one use any of those mozzie killing things that you put in the power point? They say to cover your fish tank, so I take it chemicals are released into your home's atmosphere. Are they bad for dogs? which is the safest? Anyone know? Thanks
  2. I read, after doing some internet searching, that raw eggs can be a problem in diets as the whites bind to biotin (vit B). Is this really an issue?? I use BARF patties for about 50% of the diet and I'm sure they have raw eggs in them. Any views? thanks
  3. I just did a bit of a search on the net and it seems that the problem might be limited to raw fish. ???. I don't know. I also read some concern about raw eggs! might start another post.
  4. I just read this on a vet website: Dogs and cats can be fed whole, raw fish (if they are interested) as long as it is fresh and not a poisonous variety of fish. However, only feed fish once a week, including tinned tuna (for human consumption) as overfeeding with fish can result in thiamine (Vitamin B1) deficiency. Commercial pet foods made with fish have thiamine added to prevent this. So it says tinned fish only once a week. I need to cut down then as I would give them tinned fish maybe once or twice a week. Has anyone heard of this? Thanks
  5. I'm not an authority but can only speak of my experience of one dog. I have one that just one day didn't want to walk. All he wanted to do was squat. he just seemed more comfortable sitting rather than walking. I went to the vets a few times, anitinflammatories, x-rays, etc. Nothing really wrong. Metacam helped as a an anitinflammatory as we thought maybe he strained himself, but his anal glands were also full i think. From memory having them emptied helped. Now whenever i see him scoot or try to bite his rear end on more than one occasion, I think that maybe his glands need to be emptied. No harm in getting them squeezed.
  6. Is it possible to post a video clip of someones zoomies. Please do, can someone do it? ;) :D Or a link to a video of zoomies.
  7. I haven't use them before but you could try this one: http://www.crittersitter.com.au/ There are some others too in the yellow pages under pet services i think. Is your bull dog good with other little dogs? Is it just overnight or a few days?
  8. I thought whippets were supposed to be couch potatoes?? I'm never getting one now. That would all scare me big time.
  9. I tend to use a soluble product like the fish stuff and even then hose it in.
  10. i must say I LOVE watching zoomies and have filmed some with my camera. It doesn't sound like there are many injuries. But I'm still going to be nervous about it. I agree its one of the real joys about dogs.
  11. I have a split level house so its just half a flight of stairs. They are little fellas and manage the stairs quite well. But I hold my breath everytime and watch them to make sure they seem ok.
  12. I have two little ones and sometimes, usually late int he day they love a game of zoomies and one chases the other at a furious pace. Up and outside, a few laps of the backyard, then down the stairs inside and then around the lounge several times. The its water time while the dominate girl then humps the boy whilst drinking, and its all over. Does any one else worry they will do themselves some damage doing this? I try to make sure they don't do this close to a meal time either.
  13. I went to the store today to look, but you have to buy a big box of them for $28. The quantity was a bit scary. I saw another brand of biscuits but i can't remember the brand. Just in plastic tub. I only have little fellas so it would take forever to go through a big box. Any other hard biscuit choices that anyone knows of? Other biscuits don't give them much of a chew i think (i've had the Eukanuba ones before).
  14. Thanks for all the speedie replies. I might go see tomorrow what I can get. I only want to use it as a chew treat, maybe one every other day to help keep the teeth clean and as a treat. One of mine has had allergies I suspect so i'll just have to see if this make sit worse or not. At the moment they use an dentastix or dentabone, but they are not hard at all and last 20 seconds. I guess they are made of cereals too and he hasn't reacted to that.
  15. I was reading another post and someone suggested 4x2 dog biscuits. Haas any one tried them? What are the main ingredients? I was thinking of using them for my little ones to chew on to keep them busy for a few minutes. Are they very digestible as I am paranoid about obstructions as one of mine tends to gulp food down so I don't give him bones.
  16. A friend's poodle wears a tick collar. I sometimes look after him for a weekend and I hate the smell of it. It really gets up your nose. mine are on Advantix fortnightly during the spring/summer.
  17. I use OMO sensitive for the doggie things. It doesn't smell as nice but i would do anything to help with the allergies.
  18. I'd get a litter tray and put it somewhere she can get to. Thats what i'm planning on doing when mine get to that age.
  19. I found this: http://www.greatdanelady.com/articles/lega...joe_cocquyt.htm Now i'm really confused about what to buy. Do I stick with the "new" Eaglepack Holistic? Do I try to see if Golden Eagle are coming here? Or do I go with something else again that is completely different. I liked Origen before the irradiation issue.
  20. Why drop the Eaglepack name from the Holistic Select range? That doesn't make sense to me. I had some supply problems about a month ago but Petstock seem to be getting their stock through again.
  21. I was on the US website and they seem to be separating their normal formulas from the holistic select line. I noticed in my last pack of EP food, they had a leaflet that the Holistic Select line will look different in the future and on the packaging it appears to have dropped the "Eaglepack" brand name. Does any one knows what is happening?
  22. I feed mainly BARF patties and Eaglepack. BUT I also give some of the Nutro lamb one as treats. It's really crunchie and mine really like it. So they get it as a treat and just as a bit extra, but it seems OK to me.
  23. I used to trim the fat off meat too, but what what I hear they need some of the fat. I only trim off big bits of fat now. I worry about my dogs diet too and people at work laugh at me I think because I'm more "health conscious" about my dogs diet than my own. (I'm often buying rubbish for lunch).
  24. OK, But I refuse to wear an Elizabethan collar outside!
