  7. my dog sleeps in my room but in the corner on his blankets.. he has his area and he knows he isnt allowed in the bedroom during the day and that his being allowed in my room is by invitation only.. maybe you need to start with that.. make it so that he isnt allowed in your room at all unless it is on your invitation.. then work from there.. good luck..

  16. Lucky you. We are aallllllllll tiles! Very cold in winter! bugger that might make things difficult.. maybe put coloured tape on the floor to show the boundary? That might work. Demon's pretty smart, but I honestly have my doubts he would initialy pick up on it. that maybe the step after having a the little "gate" so he notices it. Put it underneath the "gate"initially. Thanks!! you might be surprised.. if you put the tape down and he steps over it just take him back over and tell him no or whatever command you choose to use.. i had another dog in a house with a similar problem.. it was all lino but there was a join in the pieces and the dog was trained not to step over the join.. it took time but she figured it out..

  18. he already automatically stands at the door whenever someone turns up. i have always trained my dogs to do that. the door to the hallway has been open all day and on the one time where he went to go thru the door he looked at me first and i just said no and he sat back down on his blanket. as for the kitchen our living room is carpeted and the kitchen has lino so that makes it a bit easier to give him a stopping point.
  19. i would say your husband is on the right track.. you have had Maddie for 18 months and she has been your only 'child' so of course your going to feel guilty taking time away from her but i feel it would be the same regardless of if the new addition was a dog or a child.. you need to stop being so hard on yourself and stop feeling guilty.. put aside maybe 30 mins a day to spend one on one with both dogs as they both deserve quality time with you just as any child you have will. think of it as a good learning experience as you will no doubt go thru it with your own child/ren when the time comes and trust me when you have a kid in the beginning you will find you have less time to spend with the dogs.
  20. more than welcome.. try googling crate training as well..
  21. there are a few threads on here on crate training.. basically from what i know (have never done it myself but im thinking about it) it involves training your dog to be confined to a crate at certain times.. eg. nighttime, while your out, when you have guests that dont like dogs... good luck finding a crate.. maybe stick a wanted ad in your local paper or the like
