I thought I read somewhere that NZ did have laws that included pets as part of the evacuation plan? not as far as i was aware but hey if they now do then YAY for us

i love Rotti's cos they are (if raised correctly) big goof balls.. they are over sized teddybears. and i like ACD's cos they look nice but also cos they are so friendly

thankfully my dog doesnt resource guard.. i can take anything away from him at any time.. but you are right with the resource guarders pack order means exactly ZIP!

this thread has given me a wake up and i have just had my son feed the dog and make sure he remembers the rule to step away from his food dish before giving him his release command.. he did really well and i think we might get him doing that more often so that the dog remember that my boy comes before him in the pack order..

my dog knows that he doesnt eat till he is told he can which means my son is able to feed him but once he is given his release command my son knows to stay well away from him even tho i can walk in and just whip his bowl out from under his nose with no problems my son knows not to try it cos its not worth the risk.. some people need to train their kids not just their dogs... a good well trained KID is one that knows to stay the f away from a dog thats eating!!

im going to throw in my conspiracy theory here lmao birds navigate over long distance by the earths electromagnetic field. i cant help but wonder if something caused a disruption to said field and as such it screwed with the birds minds and caused them to all drop dead.. for those of you that watch disaster movies and have seen the core you will know the basis behind my theory cos it happens in the start of the core along with everyone in a 10 block radius that have pace makers dropping dead lmao

i think New Zealand needs to learn from what has happened in Australia over the last few years as far as disasters are concerned and put some similar lawns in place for dealing with animals in the event of disaster...

i grew up on a farm where dogs were working dogs.. they lived in kennels and only came out to work and once they got to old to work were either sent to live with someone else (always so they were a long way from the farm) or they were pts.. i have always believed that a family animal belongs inside with the family but also needs access to outside and fresh air..

mine is both a in and outside dog.. and when i get my new one she will be both as well

Sounds too impulsive to me. It could be done though. Being on DOL is certainly redeeming. I had a red cat once. its not really that impulsive. i was planning on getting a show dog at some stage and when i was offered the chance to have one of her ACD's i jumped at the chance. have been planning to get a show dog for years to be honest but now that i have finally moved cities to where my friend that breeds and shows is so she can help me thru the process im in a position to get one.

didnt know i was waiting for a puppy till yesterday lol.. offer was made that we could have a puppy from a breeder friend to show so now once we get all the little bits sorted we will be getting a Red ACD.. she is 4 weeks old so 4 weeks to go..

ok so im considering getting an ACD puppy (will be ready to come home in 4 weeks if we get her).. I plan to get a crate and crate train. She will be a show dog so wont be getting her desexed (other reason for getting crate). she will have free run round the house and supervised play time with my big boofy boy. I plan to have set training times every day and set times where we will go walking once fulling vaccinated. is there anything else i need to think about that i need to start getting now to prepare for her IF we get her mind you i think we will.. just have to work out a few things with the breeder.. thanks for the help

im going to be another one for flying.. i have flown a cat from one end of nz to the other and she came out of her cage happy as a pig in mud at the other end.. imho flying is less stressful than driving that sort of distance at that age.. good luck with whatever option you choose..

one thing i would like in a house is a purpose built dog room.. one that has a stable door type dog door that can be left open during the day that leads out to a HUGE fenced outdoor play area. the room would have a grooming table, large cupboard with large bins for dry food, fridge/freezer for chilled foods. it would have a wet floor system with large drain in the middle of the floor for ease of cleaning, with large dog bath at other end. havent decided whether i would have built in crates or just wire crates with a base built for them to sit in so they can be dismantled for going to shows or just have raised sleeping platforms for the dogs so they can share beds. would also have built in dog feed stations so the bowls dont end up getting dragged round all over the show and eaten..

if it is happening i will post pics after i get back from talking to the breeder will just need to make sure i have her consent to use her pics or might just take my camera and get my own lmao..
