  1. ring your local airport cargo center and see if they have crates you can hire.. have you ever crate trained your dog?? if you have then it might be easier for him to handle being in a crate then one that hasnt. i cant give you suggestions of where to look for cheap crates as im in NZ so no use with that one sorry.. he should be able to stand up, lie down and turn around easily in the crate.
  2. hes looking pretty comfortable already lol.. stretched out on his blanket like he owns the place snoring his head off lol
  3. and he will- until he feels comfortable!!! At present, he knows it is YOUR territory, and it is strange... so he is treading carefully. May be an idea to... get some baby gates, or keep him on leash so he doesn't learn bad habits! Also- make sure door to kid's room is shut.. and that all bins, tissues, etc are out of reach thanks will do that.. heres hoping he can adapt cos i feel really bad leaving him outside when its so cold..
  4. he seems to be doing ok being inside loose.. he got a bit to close to the cat and she took off and of course he followed but as soon as i said 'zeus no' in a firm tone he was straight over to his blanket and sat down which amazed me.. i have been looking to get him a crate but i havent been able to find one i can afford as yet but i am still looking..
  5. this might not be as hard as i thought lol the hallway door is open and he has looked but hasnt tried to go down it and he hasnt set foot in the kitchen..
  6. Hi.. im starting to feel guilty bout leaving my big boy outside with the weather here being rather crappy and bound to only get worse so i was after some ideas on how to train him to stay out of the kitchen (open plan living/dining/kitchen) and also how to teach him not to go past the living room door unless its bed time cos he will be sleeping in my room at night but i dont want him getting into my sons room during the day and getting into his toys.. also some pointers on how to get him to ignore the cat.. she doesnt like him and as such she reacts but it would be nice to be able to have them both in the same room and i cant train the cat so the dog it is lol
  7. i was going to suggest the cruel to be kind idea but as you have already stated they would put her to sleep if it got bad enough so telling her that not resting her could cost her the leg if it got bad enough wouldnt work.. another option might be having a word to your local dog ranger or spca worker and asking them to come have a word to your parents about the damage they could be doing to her.
  8. i would say if she isnt back to normal tomorrow then i would get her checked out for muscle strains or worse
  9. LOL It worked- and no tummy problems!! yay for junk food ! lol yeah the one case where junk food is good for you lol.. Thats shocking. Junk food is never good. Has he been tested for thyroid imbalance nope he hasnt..
  10. more information might help.. we cant give advice on something if we dont have all the details so a brand name would be nice cos i just googled 'Holistic Pet Food Lamb and Rice' and came up with a few options..
  11. good luck with him and his recovery.. i am lucky in that my big boy doesnt do much apart from sleep so if he ever had to be confined and rested it wouldnt be hard..
  12. Not a bad idea for little dogs.. I tend to use a KONG more for that, as any bones given here are ones which can be safely all crunched up and eaten Stewed apple is a good idea for kong smearing- thanks!! your welcome.. my boy gets big cannon bones and he usually ends up with decent sized bits lying around hence why i use them.. have no idea where his kong is
  13. LOL It worked- and no tummy problems!! yay for junk food ! lol yeah the one case where junk food is good for you lol..
  14. bahahah yeah i get that with my boy regardless of what im making.. and normally something will fall on the floor as well.. oops lol
  15. have any of you tried stewing apples and sticking them in a bone your dog has cleaned out as a treat?? my boy loves marmite in his bones but im wanting to come up with different things i can put into his old bones to keep him amused and i was thinking of stewed apples..
  16. lol.. apparently he was getting filled rolls, pies, all sorts of stuff that he shouldnt but she loves him and spoiled him rotten lol..
  17. maybe try ringing your local hardware store and ask them.. just explain the situation and im sure they will be able to point u in the right direction..
  18. you will all be pleased to know that my boy has packed on some weight and is now looking really good.. he had a 5 day holiday with a friend of mine whilst i was away and he has come home a completely different dog lol..
  19. hi my boy is coming up 3.. he has a habit of being a bit up and down with his weight.. he looks ok in photos cos i try to take photos that dont show how ribby he actually is.. he is under weight and im not trying to put it on him fast im just trying to get weight on him as he struggles to keep weight on.. once i get him back up to a healthy weight i will drop his food down so as to maintain the weight and but i will increase it if i see him dropping weight again..
  20. you are all in a lot warmer climate than we are.. do u know how hard it is to keep weight on a dog when its only 2 degrees outside??? he is getting what i was told to feed him to get some more weight on him before winter really sets in..
  21. thanks that is so cool... now to work out how to get it up lol
  22. i dont know how well it would work but have you tried either a circular or a saber saw to cut the frozen meat??
  23. Hello you wonderfully talented people.. Any chance of getting you to do one for me please???? Smokey Zeus Connor
  24. yeah thanks for all the advice will figure out the best way to modify his diet..
  25. Hi Toolz There are alot of kiwis that recommend the mighty mix that you are talking about. How old is he. Sounds like he is getting a heck of alot to eat. if he is getting that amount. a kg of dog roll??? so long as he doesnt get a real bloated look to him or gets very uncomfortable i would suggest just starving him for the next meal at least the next meal. It wont do him any harm what so ever. or at least give him a couple of biscuits if you dont feel happy that he doesnt get a meal. it does sound like his gut may need a good rest. What have his stools been like. Have they been hard or has he been constitpated lately or are they a good consistancy. I feed all my dogs twice a day and about once a month they miss a meal time Do be careful with the amount you do feed. he is coming up 3 yeah im going to miss his next meal and see how he goes.. his stool is ok actually.. im going to cut back on the amount i give him. i am going to reduce him back to 750 gms of meat and only 1cup of kibble and 10 m mix in the morning and 1 cup kibble and 10 m mix in the arvo
