Great!! Licking is a step toward putting it in her mouth! Is she clicker trained? I would try shaping... Start shaping the lick and then raise your criteria for a bit of teeth action, then into the mouth, etc. Yeah she is clicker trained. I'll try that ! thanks!

But Piper, do you think you could help me? I'm thinking of starting herding with my girl. We're in adelaide.

Congrats leopuppy and Seita! both of you with amazing scores!!

Yeah, She's fine eating and has no problem with hard treats (pigs ears etc).

Q1. I'd hold it out in front of her say 'fetch', she'd take it, say 'give' she'd drop it. basically this.. sometimes I'd be in front her her, sometimes she'd be in the heel position etc etc. This is the method my club told me to use. And I was going closer and closer to the ground so that she'd eventually pick it up from the groud. Q2. yep, she just licks it Q3. I've currently got a plastic one and no I havn't tried wood... might be a good idea though! Q4. Yeah... and she tricks me! She looks all excited then ignores the dumbell Q5. Yep, she can basically do the whole exercise with a tug rope. I've even tried tricking her by playing with the rope and then when shes not looking change it to the dumbell... sadly shes smarter then me ;) :p

Here we go again with the dumbell. Jess had an obsession with it for a while and was really willing to work with it.. but now... nothing. Though she still wouldn't pick it up from the ground she would very happy take it from my hands. I was putting my hands closer to the ground and she still seemed to like it. So training was going great until about 2 weeks ago. I got the dumbell out, said fetch... and she just looked at me, and has been doing that ever since. We've been working with the dumbell for some time now and nothing is working. Now she dosn't even want to look at it I'm really losing hope here. I'd really like to go further than novice, but thats not gonna happen! She learns everything else so quickly and is very toy driven... but hates the dumbell! Please help! UPDATE!!! Well last Tues, Jess picked up the dumbell from the ground for the first time Then... by the weekend she did the whole retrieve on flat exercise!!! -video coming soon!!- photo though

Haha this happened to me just the other week! Got our CCD title and was already entered in CCD again the following sunday (entries already closed). I just did CCD... not that we passed because someone got tired in stays....

Remember to breathe Good luck

Not really a brag for today but anyway.... We were in CCD (though we got our title last weekend). Heel on lead- 26/30 WOOOO! Best heelwork score we've ever gotten (I think...) Very Happy with this! Lost points for being wide on figure 8, and some turns but other then that SFE- 10/10 recall- 14/20 I said heel and Jess was like "Hmmm in my own time!" Had to call her up and sit her But it was a nice recall apart from that. stays- 0 Just when I thought her sit stay was solid... last 10 seconds... down she goes. Pulled out of drop stays. ness- After stays I was gonna come find you to help with Kenzie but then we had to leave Hopefully will see you at SADOC trial! ETA: Congrats everyone!!!

Wow, looks like everyone in WA did really well Congrats everyone and good luck for tonight TerraNik congrats on those scores That sucks about the stays though

I'm changing my dogs diet from supermarket canned/dry food brands to an all dry food (biscuit) diet (a good brand). But there are so many brands around I have no idea where to start. Or what brand suits the needs of my dogs. Jess is a young (24 months) active border collie and Bailey is a young (3 y.o) lazy, golden retriever, and I need to keep an eye on his weight. What brands are of good quality and what ones are not? Which brand(s) would you recommend? Thanks

I started training Jess in basic obedience when I first got her at 8 weeks. We started training in ring work type stuff at the start of this (April-ish) year and we entered our first trial (CCD) in late May. So she was about 17-18 months old. I think I could have waited a few more months because though she seemed ready in training, we didn't pass til our third trial. I think her brain really kicked in when she was about 22 months old as we got three passes in a row, no worries She is now exactly 24 months old Happy 2nd Birthday Jess!!!

oooooh!! Can't wait for photos!!

I voted other; I'd get my dog to sit in front of me, tell her watch and then either let her run off her energy or if I'd got her attention do a quick heel/sit and then let her run (praise before run). After shes got rid of some energy I'd try some quick training and praise heaps if she's a good girl. I always try to end training on a happy note But if she was being really naughty I'd tie her up for a few minutes and do something else then go back to her. (similar to ness and TerraNik, but would probably wouldn't train my other dog because he's got the attention span of a pea at the park! If I were home I'd train him though )

Well done Agility Dogs !!! WOW 24 poles!

slightly... I have to walk my dog on a 'Halti' headcollar sometimes because she goes INSANE on walks and pulls my am off (hard to believe she heels so well in obedience!), and I'm so sick of people asking why she is muzzled!!! argh!!! Its not a muzzle! But sorry I have no idea how to stop your dog hating the muzzle. I'm trying to stop mine hating the halti

Well done Dova!!!! They are some great scores!! Good luck for Sunday!
-
ness- when is Kenzie's first trial gonna be?
-
Thanks for the info ^^

Congrats River and Rivsky on your first CDX pass! Good luck getting your title
-
But where do you get them from? Australian Shepherds are relatively easy to come by these days.......there are almost always litters advertised on DOL, and the state breed clubs could probably help potential buyers out with other litters available. All in all, you wouldn't have to wait long, even if you were quite specific about colours and markings (I was with my girl and I waited a few weeks for her to be born, then another 8 weeks til she came home) . Koolies aren't a breed I've ever seen advertised anywhere. I realise they aren't yet ANKC recognised, so how do you source a good breeder? I was wondering this just half an hour ago! Didn't find any answers though.

oooh big congrats!! ^^

Thanks ness and Ptolomy haha we need good luck for novice! We have tried before just for fun... what a day that was
-
oooh Aussies and Tollers; two of my three favorite breeds (guess #1 ) Reeeaaaally tought choice here; I say have one of each But.. IF I had to choose I'd probably go Toller, but then again Aussie... ah you make a hard question. I have a question- Which breed is more active?

Just a little brag for Jess. Today at the double OT at southern districts we came home with two passes in CCD! And our title!!! We were just one point off in placing in both trials, but who cares... a pass is a pass and I'm just so thrilled!! 93 and 91 were our scores! Both in the 90's woo!!! And now we have 4 legs in CCD
