All the photos in this thread were taken with a 50mm. so that gives you an idea of what it can do. It's different to your other 2 lenses, they are zoom but the 50 is not. You cant zoom anything, if you want to get closer to something you physically move closer, you zoom with your feet so they say. The reason we all love it is it's a very sharp lens and is good in low light because you can open the aperture up, that's the number 1.8 or 1.4 we mention. The price varies alot depending on whether you buy online or in a shop. I bought my 50 1.4 from a shop over 2 years ago and it was nearly $600 then. If I'd bought it online I would have got it alot cheaper but I did have trouble with mine and it had to be repaired, which was eventually done free of charge even though the warranty had just expired, I'm not sure how well that would have been dealt with if I'd had to deal with the online guarantee, and the 1.4 is known for the problem I had, auto focus failure. In fact a few DOLers have had the same problem with theirs. The 1.8 is alot cheaper so if something went wrong it's not such a drain on your wallet should you have to chuck it, although I dont think it's known for the auto focus failure of its more expensive brother. Right now it's only $87 from DWI an online seller but you've still got postage on top and they charge a bit for that. Hello all :D Quick question; I've had my DSLR since Oct '10 and have just been using the two lenses that it came with (EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II & EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III). Now I'm starting to look into buying a new lens. Seems there's lots of 50mm 1.4 or 1.8 lovers around, and was wondering who/what you'd recommend it for... :D I'm quite new to the photography world bear with me ;) What price range should I expect and where's the best place to buy?

I can't remember where I got the link but there was this site selling iClick clickers pretty cheap, just can't find it now! Basically I'm looking to buy 3 or 4 clickers (preferably iClicks) but I don't want to spend too much on them ;) Suggestions? ;)

;) I don't think I could take it if someone tried to tell me what my own dog was! Haven't had anything too crazy with my two... Jess has been a kelpie and mini bc. Bailey has been a golden/poodle, lab/poodle, most recently a lab; but that's fair enough, he has been shaved ;) that big fluffy tail could throw people off though!

Well I guess my retriever was my start in dog training, but not so much sports. Then I got my BC (because I thought they were pretty :D) and went through all the dog school grades and ended up in the obedience ring. Agility came next, which is my addiction I definitely fell in love with the breed before the sport. But now my future puppies will be chosen with sports in mind

What/when/where are come and try days, piper? Sounds like something I'd be interested in

I'm not sure but they'd probably all use similar methods. I haven't trained at any of those clubs, so I can't really help. :D There's also a obedience club at Munno Para, not sure how far that's from you. ETA- Though clubs might suggest using food as a reward or check chains as an aid, nobody is going to force you to do so.

I only ask because I find you may be disregarding a bunch of people focused breeds under the false impression that they want to sit on top of you all the time Mine love to be with me but they lay on the floor while I'm on the lounge, don't even attempt to get up! Comes down to how they are raised. My BC does. But only when she's inside, outside she's just "BALL BALL THROW THE BALL". But if I'm on the lounge, she'll want to lay on me, if she's sleeping inside she'll be right next to me if not laying on me. But my point was it usually comes down to how they are raised, you've probably let her (edit: not saying this is a bad thing, comes down to personal choice). Mine know their place is on the floor, lounge is out of bounds. I have invited Ruby up a few times, and the times I have invited Millie up she stays 30 secs then jumps off herself (and she is the one who is my shadow a bit more). Sorry huski, maybe mine didn't come across properly either - I wasn't saying you don't want a people focused breed, I was trying to say that maybe you are disregarding some people focused ones under the impression that they are clingy, too.
