another one of me and my little Molly pup about 3 months ago......
-
Luke always has fantastic pics, always so classic! - plus doesn't hurt that his co-star is so gorgeous!
-
Thankz Ellz, it has cleared up mostly now, but will keep an eye on it :D
-
Molly has a bit of weepy eye, and slight hair loss and the vet said it was just due to her being a puppy, her immune system was down, and it was just a bacterial thing. We wipe Molly's eyes with warm salty water solution, and it seems to stop the weeping. Fingers crossed it's all ok Luke!

yep - i dry brush Molly as well.... hope to see you in the cocker thread!

hey kingy - congrats on the new pup. We go to Urban Dog Training. Molly has finished her beginners puppy school, and is now doing advanced puppy. They're great. Small classes and the trainers are fantastic. Make sure you go to Urban Playgroup too on the weekends, excellent supervised socialistion with other pups (which is good fun for us owners too!). When do you start? If you go to the Carina one, i'll keep an eye out for you!

yep totally agree with everyone so far. Where in QLD are you? I go to an excellent puppy school, which accepts dogs from 8 weeks onwards.

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone knows of an excellent groomer around the east-side. (I live at Carina). Ideally, i'd need someone who is experienced with spaniel grooming (i don't want Molly fully clipped), and if possible, a mobile groomer. I will be grooming Molly myself, but for the first time i'd like someone experienced to do it ;) Any recommendations would be fantastic!

personally, i wouldn't use treats for toilet training. You don't want him to expect treats just because he wees. Just lots and lots of happy praise and a cuddle or two.

you can't really discipline the puppy for having an accident inside the house. From what i understand, you'd be disciplining the action of what they're actually doing it, as opposed to WHERE they're doing it. Molly is 5 months old, and only has maybe one accident a week in the house now, and it's usually because the door is shut. Toilet training is hard!

Hey bax - welcome to DOL, and congrats on the new puppy. I'll offer my advice re: toilet accidents & jumping. If your pup has an accident inside the house, it's not his fault. What you are doing with taking him outside is right, but don't say NO. Just ignore the accident, and calmly take pup outside and place on the grass. With the jumping up - we were taught at training that if our dog jumps up when we get home, just take a step backwards. Just keep stepping backwards, and eventually the dog will stand or sit calmly at your feet. Once he's standing or sitting calmly, give lots of praise.

Obedience Club/private Or Public

i'm a current client of Urban Dog Training... i have found them fantastic! Within 2 minutes of talking to Paul, i knew it was the right place for us. They have small classes of 6, weeknight and weekend classes, and fully supervised free playgroup (sorted by age and size) on Sundays. We just finished our Beginners Puppy School, and are just about to start advanced Puppy. They promote clicker training, and also have beginner agility classes as well. One of the girls at my work just got a new puppy and took hers to one of the vet training clinics, and after 6 weeks she wasn't happy, so she took her Daschie to Urban, and she's much happier with the more personal experience. Just thought i'd add my experience with them. -
we bath Molly in the laundry tub with a non slip bath mat on the bottom. We also have one of those rubber shower arm extender thingies that cost about 7 bucks from Bunnings (hahaha i can't explain it) which is perfect, because we can control where the water goes. We use Aloveen Shampoo and Conditioner with Molly. It's especially good for sensitive skins, and it smells unbelieveably good!

hey wish - i'll be watching this thread with interest - was actually just about to start a new one myself! Molly is almost exactly the same, but not so much with the before toileting etc.

1. What is my relationship with the breed? (ie breeder, first time owner etc) first time owner 5. What is the general temperament/personality? very very happy dogs, that love a cuddle, and love to play. She has a nice stable personality, and I've found my girl very loyal, and very sweet tempererd. 7. Is it a breed that a first time dog owner could easily cope with? as a first time owner, i can say that we were (and still are) quite impressed with how good our girl has been. I think personally the grooming is the hardest part to get used to. She does give us the irresistable cocker sad face, so as with any other puppy, a firm but fair hand is required. 8. Can solo dogs of this breed easily occupy themselves for long periods? Our girl is not a solo dog, but for the first month, she didn't spend any unsupervised time alone with our other dog. She coped really well, as long as i left her toys. However, i think she is much happier having a play mate. 9. How much grooming is required? we brush ours every night, clean her eyes & ears 1-2 times a week 10. Is it too boisterous for very small children or for infirm people (unless the dog is well trained)? i have found our girl to be great with kids. she loves them, and they love her.

one thing i will definately recommend, is try and give your dogs one area of the house where it is there little time out. It may be easier for us, but our bedrooms are the dogs time out zones for when they got too tired of each other. Because Eva is my OH's brother dog, when she's had enough of Molly, she goes into the OH's brother bedroom, and Molly knows that she isn't to follow. Same goes for Eva when Molly comes into our room. Anything in the rest of the house is fair game though!!
-
i didn't realise that about the 4-5 month thing. No wonder Eva is getting more snappy at Molly this last week. Is that the time when older dogs start to have less tolerance for the pups, and start putting them in their place? I've never heard that before! oh, and to the OP, when we brought Molly home, we never left her and Eva (our 3 yr old Rotty) together unsupervised. Now that Molly is getting bigger, and they know each other, a little unsupervised time is ok.

such gorgeous photos Luke - but then again who couldn't love a blue roan huh
-
ok well i rang the vet, and they said just to bathe with warm salty water, and if it gets bigger, or more bald patches come up then to go back, but otherwise it should heal naturally. It has been there 2 weeks now, the vet has checked twice, and there seems to be no issue. If it is ringworm the patch should get bigger, and if its mange, then it should either get worse or more spots should show up, so fingers crossed it stays the same, and eventually goes away :p
-
thanks guys :p i just read through a couple of threads, and i'm not AS worried anymore about it... obviously as long as it stays localised then it wont be a huge problem. PRS - you said that if the area is only small that the scraping may come back with negative results, so basically if the spot doesnt get any bigger and no other spots pop up, it should clear up on its own, and our best would just be to keep her healthy (keep going on RC & BARF ) and try and keep her immune system up?
-
omg... i hope its NOT mites... would they cause itching or discomfort or any other symptoms. Seems i need to do a search on demodex. Especially how she could have gotten it..
-
would ringworm show up on the vet scraping?
