  1. Lol, at the risk of sound stupid, I didnt realize dogs could be so fussy until I started reading on here, lol. And I had a friend here the other day, and I thought I'd crack open a bag of doggy treats, only to find her little pup wouldn't touch them. So I opened another , and then another... lol... Throughout the whole process I was thinking... "Dam, my puppy better not be so fussy" (she arrives in 3 days) That doesn't help you though, sorry http://www.kerryblues.info/index.html?http...LTH/FATTEN.HTML - Here are the recipes for "Fatten Balls". Homemade dog treat recipes like this is one can really help in putting weight on Extra carbs in her diet may fatten her up (works for me..lol).. but I guess you still need to actually get her to want to eat... I also found the following info - that may or may not be relevant.. (I'll just cut and paste below) -Has she been wormed recently? What are his faeces like? Firm and well formed or soft with no defined shape? If they are soft then see response to first question above, and if there is no improvement she should have a veterinary check to make sure that there is no underlying cause (i.e. EPI - e x o crine pancreatic insufficiency). If her faecal matter is normal, then she may have a greater need for a little more carbohydrate than he currently has in his diet. Dogs that are naturally anxious, over-active or stressed may fall into this category Good luck - My 4 year old son is also a fussy eater & ATM ... However if i put sprinkles on his dinner he seems to eat it with less fuss... lol... though, I'm not sure that will help your situation... ha ha
  2. Lol, thanks for your reply.. Can of worms I like The more info the better, bring it on!! You never will. Diet is very much breed based & individual. Not every breed can be feed the same thing so these questions are what you need to discuss with your breeder . Many swear by BARF,I personally think its highly over rated but that is where everyone will agree to disagree BUT its important that you understand your breed first & any foods that are known to be an issue, again this is where your breeder will inform you. The most important thing is to stick with the breeders diet for the pups sake & if you believe it isnt up to scratch then discuss other options with your breeder. Many breeder contracts guarantee certain things on there diet.Ours does & any changes without consultation voids our agreement. Diet is like a giant can of worms
  3. Thanks to all the lovely people who replied.. ) I haven't really gotten any FULL answers to my question though.. Would seem you get more advise if you put yourself out there as a bit of a 'dumb ass' ...lol... I might post again and 'word it differently.... Thanks again
  4. Ahhhh isnt that lovely !! Not dorkey, its adorable & thoughtfull!! Hope its lots of fun!!
  5. .... I rent & ALWAYS had my dog inside despite the NO ANIMALS inside condition. I guess I knew my dog, who we had for 11 years.. Next week, our pup (ACD) arrives & I will creat her in our room at night, and have set up a play pen on the tiled area. I will NOT be telling my RE that I have the dog inside. I am a very responsible and clean family & I do not anticipate any long term probs. .... although, the house owners (who are from out of town) are visiting the week after the pup comes.. and I am a little nervous, and will make sure all the pup stuff is outside. lol I have allot of respect for the house owners, (nil for the real estate we rent though) but am 100% confident my family will always leave the property in BETTER condition than when we first tenant it. Perhaps they would even agree to our gal coming inside but I'm not going to take the risk. Good luck with your new pup, she will adapt to what ever set up you choose, and these dol people will have a HEAP of unreal tips & advice for you..
  6. Well said Rysup!! It would seem that people are too busy giving each other pats on the back or outdoing each other. Mind you, in-between the assumption making and 'one up man ship there has been some awesome suggestions that actually addressed the question asked. Personally, apart from a Kong, I have shopped very thriftily on all the pup toys I've bought. I have also found tuff dog toys in shops like the reject shop and Flash Harrys for $2 - $5 that retail in shops from Big W to pet & produce stores for up to $20 MAX. - I will keep keep my eyes open for the raw hide chews from F/Harrys also.. ) - My friend has a pup that loves rolling around a Milo tin that has rocks in it..lol - Its very noisy, perhaps that's why the pup loves it!! Probably, like children, dogs will have fun, and find enjoyment with anything that is given to them with love. My son, who's 1 ESPECIALLY loves a toy that was made 4 years ago for my 1st son. A coke bottle with rice in it...LMAO~~ He loves it!
  7. Geeze... tough crowd here hay!! Lets hope your other responses are less judgmental and don't make too many assumptions about you!! Zillions of dog owners wouldn't even bother to buy puppy pens and / or crates!!!! IggiePiggie I bought one of those Bunnings cages too, aren't they great!! ( I got that idea off here also)... Would seem like there are quite a lot of 'Dogs members who appreciate saving a few dollars where they can I'll be awaiting all your answers, I'm always keen to save it where I can 2.
  8. My family and I are very excited to be getting our new little Cattle Dog puppy in 2 weeks when she will be 8 weeks old. She will not be used for a working dog, just a very loved pet for an active family. I have been reading HEAPS from this web sight, and this forum and have learnt so much (thank you) I would be great full of suggestions of a well balanced diet, for a pup this young, that is available in Australia. I understand that the breeder will give me a comprehensive list of what the pup has been eating, and the nutritional reqquitents of an ACD. I also know the importance of slowly introducing any new diet to the puppy. The breeder is a registered breeder, who is extremely helpful and forthcoming with wonderful information, I am just interested in other peoples ideas and experience /sugestions, so I can make an informed decision about my pups long term diet. Many thanks!
