  1. Teri, can I have the original of Bronte-girl too please. Your photographic efforts are very very good. I like that one of Tash sitting on the bark, its gorgeous. I have a lovely one of Sohvi, so I'll try and upload them now. Unfortunately I haven't figured out how to post them without shinking them heaps yet, so if anyone wants any pics let me know and I'll send through the original too.
  2. Some great shots in here this month. That calendar is going to be hard to pick. I've got a few pics too, but won't get to load them until later this week, stay tuned.
  3. That's not pretty Paris, that's an imposter!
  4. We are only going to be there for a couple of hours this time, so no lunch for us, far too much to do at home at the moment and so little time. dobesrock - 5 months is a great age for him to be introduced to a wide range of other dogs, before he really hits his teenage period. 5. Flaves - you're back, that's great news. I can't give you any photo tips, but I was very pleased to see your post. Dare looks handsome as usual in your sig. Hope to see you at Kepala again soon.
  6. Pip that's great news on Tika. Sooooo, have you decided to keep her????? When I saw that Sami pup on the adoption site I also saw a chocolate merle Koolie/Aussie Shep that I would have liked to pick up, but unfortunately I just don't have enough room for a dog with THAT much energy. Why isn't there enough money and time in the world for more doggies.
  7. So, the judge has said to take up position and sit your dog and you give the command "sit", then the judge says leave your dog and while others use the command "stay", you want to say "sit" again? Some people don't use a 'stay' they train that sit means sit still, I'm guessing this is what the OP is doing hence wanting to say sit instead of stay. This is what I do as well. In some dogs it cuts the confusion of too many commands. Sit means sit until you are released irrespective of what is going on around you. The only release words for my dog are 'finish' or 'come'. We use the same approach to her drop as well. It seems to have improved her stability on stays. So as Tiggy said, I repeat the command of the position I want the dog to hold when I leave, be it sit, drop or stand.
  8. Firstly, Huski, love your new avatar! So our goals this year were: Pass HIC and gain her HT title. Start and maybe even gain her CCD. We have had to revise that goal as she got her HIC and HT in April. Now the goals are: Gain her PT title. Commence trailing in Herding Start. And still start and maybe even gain her CCD. On the side, after two second places in internal obed club fun days we were gunning for a first place and trophy - well with a bit of luck here and there we achieved that today. Whoo hoo!
  9. I use a flat collar and 6ft lead. Bronte is a pretty soft dog, with quite a bit of training, so a flat collar is fine. No extendable leads for us on normal walks, if she goes for a walks its a controlled walk, if I want her to have a run, we go to a safe dog park or similar area and she goes off lead - she has an awesome recall. Sometimes if I'm bush walking I will use a harness and extendable lead. I hate the pressure of extendable lead on a dogs collar, but on her harness it allows her and I to clamber over steps and rocks without unbalancing each other. She goes first, I tell her to 'stop' and she waits for me to catch up, she gets a pat and then she's out in front again finding the next hurdle.
  10. Good luck TLC. I'll be keen to hear about your progress and the process. I've been thinking that one day when I don't work quite as madly as I do now I wouldn't mind doing something like this. Not sure Bronte would pass though, she can be a bit of a nervous nellie. Might have to wait for a more chilled dog to join the family.
  11. Cool photos everyone. I might nick one or two of the girls so I can make a little montage for Brandi's Dad. He's quite obsessed with her. I love the one of her upside down and then where Bronte and Brandi are both facing each other and in mid flight. Two very tired doggies last night, thank god. It meant there weren't any roo patrols in the backyard at stupid times of the night, so I actually got a full nights sleep - whoo hoo!
  12. Gulp, damn, I have a feeling I only have one policy coming out of my CC, rather than two, one for dog, one for cat. Right, best I check that, thanks for the heads up RS. Btw, I love your new sig. Great to see fit Labs!
  13. I won't get started on the dogs (list would get large), but I do 'need': - a rural property and new house - a part time job that pays the same as my current full time job and - a cleaner that 'gets' animals and won't ever let my cat out the front door.
  14. I'm adding another dog to the list, she's a Whippet x Eng Staff x Staghound (which is a bitsa anyway). Looks like a tubby small greyhound, but with speed AND stamina. People and doggie list: Lucycharzie: CHARLOTTE Lappiemum: Bear, Tasha and Sohvi Pointees - April, Alexis and Shaun. Canine Friend - Dexter pip1981 - Dakota and Tika kirty - Maisie and Pia (maybe Phoebe) groupfive - Flash Hannah - Denver SmoothieGirl - Bronte & Brandi Food List Lucycharzie: Salad and low fat Brownies Lappiemum: chicken tender kebabs, plates, cutlery, cups, sauces, napkins, cooking gear Pointees - fairy bread and pigs ears Canine Friend - some kind of quiche (that can be eaten cold) pip1981 - Noodle salad, honey soy chicken wings and soft drink kirty - potato salad and sausages maybe? groupfive - juice, dip and crackers Hannah - Ceasar salad and lemon iced tea SmoothieGirl - Bread (rolls or pull aparts or something) and marg. Potato chips - everyone loves them, especially the kids!
  15. Sure it is Wizzle. Some dogs can be a bit stressed on lead when approached by other dogs and it often comes from owner reactions. Concentrate on having her politely meet other dogs on lead, no pulling on lead and no leaping on other dogs. Try not to apply your own pressure to the lead as it conveys tension to them and may unsettle her even though there is nothing to be worried about. One good way is to work with another owner and dog, just walking past each other and then call her to you, when she responds, praise and treat her. Then as she gets better at that you can walking past each other closer and closer, repeating the exercise until you can walk past most socialised dogs, she can stop for a quick hello and then focus back on you and walk off again straight away. Use well socialised dogs or dogs you trust initially. Then if you want her to have any play off lead, you can restrict that to safe backyards or properly fenced areas, like Kepala etc. Its nice for them to play with other dogs, but they don't have to be off lead to do that. They can bounce and play on lead pretty well too. If she will call off the play like you have trained her, she can have a bit of rough and tumble on lead (makes owners very deft at untangling leads) and then you can choose when she plays and when she just says hello quickly and quietly.
  16. When the weather turns all warm again, I think we should arrange a trip t Brighton Dog Beach, that's reasonably central.
  17. People and doggie list: Lucycharzie: CHARLOTTE Lappiemum: Bear, Tasha and Sohvi Pointees - April, Alexis and Shaun. Canine Friend - Dexter pip1981 - Dakota and Tika kirty - Maisie and Pia (maybe Phoebe) groupfive - Flash Hannah - Denver SmoothieGirl - Bronte Food List Lucycharzie: Salad and low fat Brownies Lappiemum: chicken tender kebabs, plates, cutlery, cups, sauces, napkins, cooking gear Pointees - fairy bread and pigs ears Canine Friend - some kind of quiche (that can be eaten cold) pip1981 - Noodle salad, honey soy chicken wings and soft drink kirty - potato salad and sausages maybe? groupfive - juice, dip and crackers Hannah - Ceasar salad and lemon iced tea SmoothieGirl - Bread (rolls or pull aparts or something) and something else. No time to put in too much effort because I'll be farm sitting too.
  18. I'm back from the mother land and will be there! I'm pretty sure I have met Hannah and Denver at Herding a couple of times, so it will be good to catch up. RealityBites, if you bring your Dobe in August you may have to check my car to make sure I haven't popped him/her in the wagon when I leave. I really miss my Dobe and love love love them. Interestingly I have a growing interest in Deerhounds too, so I'd really like to meet one properly. I'll go and copy and paste the list for dogs and food now.
  19. I'm on holiday over here in 'sometimes' sunny England and just snuck onto my cousins PC to check to see if there was any good news from the waiting room, and there is! There is no way I have time to read all the posts since I left, but I am very very pleased to hear that you are feeling somewhat better and are well on the road to recovery Jed.
  20. I've never been before, but this year the dancing dogs was on very early in the first couple of days of the event, I don't even know if they had started confirmation classes before they were awarding them. I watched some of it via live streaming. But lash out, go to all days, then you are bound to see them.
  21. Oh this is terrible, I'm so sorry for you. Never happened to any of my dogs, but my cousin had a young (2-3yo) fit GSD collapse and die at the beach years ago. They were going for a run and the dog just went down. Turned out to be cardiomyopathy (spell?).
  22. Name: Nauglamir Bronte N Gold (HT pending - waiting, waiting, waiting for papers to be returned) Nickname: Call name - Bronte Nicknames - Bront, Buppa Breed: Collie (Smooth) Gender: Female, desexed Age: 15 months Picture: See sig Where did you get them from? Avoca VIC, Nauglamir Kennels How often do you exercise your dog? During the week twice a day (walk/training/dog park), on the weekend 'whatever' and lots of it. Sat/Sun shegenerally gets a walk and one huge run/romp/dog play both days. Do they know any commands? Heaps, we are training for her CCD, she also knows a few Herding commands, some trick commands and some general lifestyle commands like 'car', 'on your bed' and 'inside/outside'. Compete in any dog sports? Herding, soon to start competing in Obedience and Agility will follow after that. Favourite treat: Tough one - Food! She particularly likes Four Legs, which I use as training treats. She also loves Roolami. Favourite toy: Ball/Frisbee, anything she can chase and fetch. Funny habits or quirks: We call Bronte a Bubble Dog, as she should live life in a bubble because if anything could and would happen to her health wise it will. What's their personality like? Super smart, loves to work, pretty happy go lucky, mummy's girl and a bit timid with men. Generally a quiet dog unless a ball or sheep are involved. She doesn't shut up when we are outside a sheep pen - it can be very trying. Do they get along well with other dogs? Absolutely, she is every dog's best friend. Are they scared of anything? Timid of men and loud, close up noises (who can blame her). What training methods do you use? Positive reinforcement? Corrections? Positive reinforcement, no reward marks and very occasionally a correction if its something she knows and is ignoring. She is a very very soft dog, so corrections are rarely used or she caves emotionally.
  23. Just dropping by the waiting room to see how Jed is doing. I'm going to be travelling for the next month so I won't be able to come by during that time. My continued best wishes for your recovery Jed and keep the candles burning everyone.
  24. Fresh candle burning to light your way to us Jed. Can't stay all, but lovely to see all of your friendly faces (and home cooking) in the waiting room, which I now think of as the "waiting room of requirement", as in Harry Potterland - its as big as we need, as warm as we need and as clean as we need (and all wish our homes were).
  25. My goodness you have been busy today. I just went to work and then walked and washed one Collie. And I need a sit down here in the waiting room a Tim Tam and maybe one of those cupcakes. Heartening news Toohey, thank you. Jed, if you want one of these yummy treats, you had better continue the steady progress and beat us to it. We'll even clear a couch of the furbabies, but only for you.
