SmoothieGirl replied to jess live die's topic in Puppy Chat
Congratulations to you too. That is one sought after litter of pups. So cool that the babies seem to be going to a few DOLers, we'll be able to watch them grow up. Ahhhh, that's lovely. -

Congratulations. I'm a Facebook friend and regular Kepala goer with Terri and her Lappie pack. Tasha is a lovely girl. I keep watching the puppy updates she's posting online. Do you know which collar colour pup you are getting yet, I can go and have a look for him/her. -

Right, its official, the pups are on the ground - I'm getting a new puppy!!!!! Another Collie (Smooth)!!! Just have to wait and see how they develop, which pups get which coat types (Smooth to Rough mating) etc etc. Hoping to meet them next week from a safe distance, well for them anyway. Ah, the bitch had us foxed, she hid the little tackers until last week and then 'blossomed' and had a medium sized litter after all. -
Sounds like a well thought out sensible decision to me, no smokey flames here. As for bitches enjoying having pups, I'm sure some do its natures way, however an animal can only really enjoy what it has already experienced, otherwise its unchartered territory and unknown, so she won't 'miss' it per se. She'll now be able to settle into a very comfy family life and enjoy all the things she used to do before she was desexed. Plus bring the family smiles all round.

Just catching up with this thread... I think Louis could only improve his stroke if he lowered that crazy tail into the water, then it would be like an outboard and he'd zoooooooooooooooom along in the water. Cute.

How cute is Annabelle on that crate! Lovely card, and of course Tobias should be in it.

Looking For Some Advise On Right Type Of Dog
SmoothieGirl replied to adogisforlife's topic in General Dog Discussion
The Cardigan Corgi sounds like a winner for me compared to your needs, I'd just check how they go in NQld as they do have dense coats, even though they are short. With the Grey, if your daughter has plans of letting it off lead at the beach or park then I'd check your state regulations, its generally illegal to let them off in a public place. You do see them off lead, but you wouldn't want to disappoint the family if you find a law enforcer in your area that is a stickler for this sort of thing. -
That photo of Flash and Dexter's ball is very stylish, black and white on green. Dex looks smart in the life jacket too, did he go in?
-
They're all lovely, but No. 4 would be going on my mantle piece. She's a pretty girl!
-
Well done everyone, great results. That photo is a classic RubyStar, love her rosette its very smart. She does have those 'let me sleep' eyes doesn't she.

Sugar levels in the grass is high at the moment with all the rain and warmth. Its like and extended spring for the grass. Makes managing the horses harder though.

Panii he's gorgeous, such beautiful markings and colour. See you guys next year, I'm Big Dog Day Outing too, probably near the Herding stand. Have a ball though and have a Messy Christmas!

CD it is, I've already marked the trials starting in March - god that's sad. I was a bit worried about the trains when we got there, but they really faded into the background. -

Well done Jules & Nik. Nice score Nik, your lovely girl needs another trial next year me thinks -
Ok, now that the final trial for the year is over I'm happy to think about and commit to words next years goals. So for 2011 our goals are: - Train for and gain her Herding Started title. - Start agility training and just generally learn a heap more about the discipline as its a little foreign to me. - Gain her CD title. - Start training for her CDX - out of sight is going to be a challenge for us. - Maybe try a tracking workshop or two, initially for fun to try it out and see if we like it.

And Jules, Poppy looked great too, she was super attentive and working like a true BC. Congratulations!

2010 Training/title/goals Wish List
SmoothieGirl replied to Seita's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Just an update on our goals for this year peoples: Last Sunday Bronte successfully qualified for her PT title with two lovely runs on the sheep. We are going to hold off trial level herding until next year to ensure that she has enough training under her (our) belt, rather than rush her. And tomorrow, barring the 'Great Flood of 2010' in Victoria (it just started raining in the last two minutes), we are going to compete in our first CCD class. She's a dream dog with an ever increasing work ethic and I'm a very proud and happy owner. Come on gang, we need updates! Well our first attempt at CCD during the Sept floods was a categoric disaster. The day was horrendous and the ring was under two inches of water in some spots and she DID NOT WANT TO BE THERE - TAKE ME HOME MUM - NOW! The only thing we got out of it was me being struck down with a cold/flu for the next week and a half. However since then we have competed twice for two passes so her CCD sounds like a possibility for this year. Final update for 2010... Bronte got 2nd place in CCD at the Croydon trial today with a qualifying score to complete the third and final leg of her title. Mission accomplished! We can now look forward to a summer of slightly more relaxed training, get back to some herding and some plain old silly doggy fun fun fun. Right, now I have to put my thinking cap on for the 2011 wish list. -
Wow Ziggy's on fire, excellent results. Well, yep we have a brag too. Bronte and I got second place in the CCD ring at Croydon Obed Dog Club today, and finished off the final leg of her CCD title with 92. Umm, lost some marks in our drop stay when she had a scratch and a roll on her side, but she self corrected back into a drop with a sheepish look on her face. Think the sun fried her brain for a moment there. Great heel work and a perfect sit stay though, I'm as pleased and proud as can be. I love my little Bronte Boo. There maybe more brags to come from others, but I'll stay quiet on those.

That's exactly why I didn't go to herding today. Bronte would have been wrecked for tomorrow, esp in this heat. As it was she had a good play with her BFF down on my friends stud, had a lovely wallow in the creek and has been resting (recovering) all afternoon. See you tomorrow everyone -

This heat doesn't bode well for our sit stay. I'll be crossing my fingers extra hard that she doesn't go all mooshy on me an slide into a drop to enjoy the heat. -
Have I Committed The Ultimate Sin?
SmoothieGirl replied to Cuchulain's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sleeping on your bed is personal choice as far as I'm concerned. My girl has slept on the bed since she was about 9mths. That being said, if I get wriggly she will hop off and put herself in her crate. I don't have any issues with dominance or anything, to me it comes down the dog's personality and your strength of position as pack leader. To be honest I don't think my dog and I really developed the bond we have now until I started letting her sleep on the bed. I've also heard (perhaps incorrectly) that many assistance dogs sleep on their companions bed to help develop the bond. At the end of the day, IMO, it still comes down to clear and consistent training. -
Tasman meat in Werribee, Synott St, near Spotlight. Actually Spotlight may not still be there, but its near where it used to be. Human mince, but they have great prices.
-
Now that's a dog earning his keep. Well done and enjoy the choccies. Great result LP! You'll want to get the puppy out into CCD next, with two dogs in UD+ you'll need the challenge of a muck up pup in the lower levels.
-
Probably can't comment on the contrast as I know nothing about that, but I love the pics, you and your dog are clearly very talented. Especially like that photo with the kisses smudges

Thanks everyone. Just hoping we pull it all together on Sunday at Croydon for a nice pass.
