, Oops got carried away there a bit I think, hell it was only an instinct test, but we PASSED woohoo. Yup Izzi & Pebbles got their certificates & you couldn't knock the off my face with a stick at the moment. Izzi is a natural & a couple of people came up after & said she is going to be good. One of the judges stayed back after the trial & did a training session for a few of us & that was real nice of her, I need all the help I can get. We got up at 4am & got home at 7.30pm but had a great time & I'm pretty sure, possitive, that we'll be back, only for Izzi & Pebbles of course . , see told ya can't stop smiling.

, oops caught out, wasn't trying to make us sound like saints piper, but I am looking forward to being there & giving Pebbles & Izzi a go. Yeah damn parents are sooo selfish some times but what can ya do See ya Saturday.

Had a big change of plans for Saturday, still doing the trial "but wait there's more" , sorry had to chuck that in. We were originally just going to get up about 6am get everything done then head to Adelaide but now we'll have to get up at 4am & leave by 4.30 . The organisers were having problems getting sheep & then found some but had no transport so a friend rang me, I found a trailer & we're picking the sheep up before we go then taking them back after, whew I'm going to need the BIGGEST . How's that for a first time at a trial, I'm still way excited about it & don't mind lending a hand, we are such , if I ever believe that please hit me with some thing big & heavy. Let you know how it all goes in the next instalment of "Day's of our Dog's", god I'm getting worse think I better have a cuppa & nanna nap :D .

Yep horse showing was the pits, I did it for years, until my stallion got his Opal award then I was out, didn't mind dressage but I'm looking forward to herding because it seems more like fun than competition. Hope you don't mind being bored to death hearing about it over & over if we pass, I'll be sooo excited.

WOOHOO, congrats JulesP , all this talk about other peoples herding runs is making me jelouse & nervous, we've got our first trial next Saturday, only instinct but it's still our first time out. I'm having a lesson on Friday to try & calm the nerves a bit, the dog's will do fine but I don't want to stuff it up or them , hope I can meet some DOL herding people some time.

This is just an oppinion not a judgement, honest, I hate antibark collars & yes I have a barking dog, I found a delta society trainer & she's helped me a lot, it's still a work in progress but we're getting there. Rainy I love your Koolie, I'm a Koolie person, he looks like a real sweety, sorry if I sounded like I was having a shot at you in my last comment I wasn't.

Dog Training - Southern Adelaide

See you there, I'm entering Izzi & Pebbles in the CCD, Pebbles will fail because of her non/stand for exam. but the more we do the better we'll get :p . I'm getting very, dog stuff, busy, we're doing our first herding trial on the 2nd & I've seen other obedience trial we might enter. -
Thanks for that 4Kelpies I'll have a look at that as soon as I've finished here, I've just been looking at the www.workingdogcentre.com site & I'm going to try to get to one of their schools, unfortunately this one is on the 2nd & 3rd of May, they sound great.

Dog Training - Southern Adelaide

Carole Husein is a good instructor, I'd recomend her if your looking for some where to train your dog, it's all reward base training for pet dog's. -
Our's is on the 2nd of May at SACA Park, we're only doing sheep at the moment, I think Izzi would be ok on ducks but not sure about Pebbles. I'll have to get onto the Yahoo herding list, thanks for the link & good luck for next week, want to hear all about it with photo's or video

Had to decide between 2009 brags thread or Herding Ht, because I want to have the biggest brag about Izzi at yesterdays training sesion, lucky you I picked this one . We had another training sesion yesterday to get ready for the trial in 2 weeks, I know it's only an instinct test but don't want to go in nervous & without a clue what to do. Izzi was the star, she worked great despite me not because of me, the instructor said she wanted Izzi for herself & that she's a natural caster. We started in a small yard just moving the sheep around then into the big yard doing PT work, we were going to leave Izzi on the long line for a while but her let off & she went straight out to cast & no matter where I walked Izzi kept the sheep behind me, the 6 & 12 position I think but correct me if I use the wrong words , if you've kept reading this you will have guessed I'm soooo proud of my little girl . Now for Pebbles, yeah sorry there's more , she did very well too & we did the same in the small yard then out, I have to watch & work more with her because she'll split the sheep & runs around a bit but she's getting a lot better. Pebbles even got to yard the sheep & considering it's her first time did very well & I've even started putting comands to actions, our home work this time is teaching "walk up". I've even improved from last time, the instructor didn't want to hit me , Bill videoed us so I can watch & see what I need to fix, about me not the dog's. Now for a question, how do I find out what trails are on & where in Victoria, we'd probably go to any that aren't to far over the border. Oh & by the way I LOVE MY DOGS or did you already get that .

Pebbles came from Broken Hill, she wasn't good enough to be a show dog, the owners wanted a good home for her & knew she'd have one here  .

Here is a couple of photos of Izzi & Pebbles with their certificates, Izzi graduated to grade 4 and Pebbles got her Club certificate, not a big brag but I'm proud of em'

I was talking to someone at the mock trial & thought she was from Strath but might be wrong, where is the one in Mt Barker, Alexis is going to start one there when she gets a new venue for her classes but don't know when that'll be. -

Your friend could get in touch with Alexis Davison, she's a dog trainer & holds classes in Mt Barker & Murray Bridge she also does private lessons, if you want Alexis' PH No. PM me, I can also tell you more about the local dog school. -
Well done, bet your pleased as well as stuffed even with the dodgy start, hope I can have a brag after our trial in May. Been doing my home work with Pebbles & Izzi so should have our stops ready for the next training day on the 17th, fingers X'ed .

That’s great. Why wait till May? If your in Victoria (I don’t know Murray Bridge) There is a trial on at Easter, Saturday, in Welshpool. There will be a City Slickers class and I heard the judge is really cool. You can camp there or stay at the caravan park (Toora) or hotel. Camping means you can sit and listen to kelpie dudes yap on about absolute crap for hours and hours (the border collie people just don’t have the stamina). Seriously it will be a great weekend the trials will be held on Saturday and will include a high jump and some other fun events. The City Slicker class would be a great way for you to gain that experience and have some fun. There will also be lots of opportunities for you to work your dogs and get advice/help from some pretty knowledgeable and friendly trainers. Where & when is the May trial…I’ll try and make it Kelpie-i….4 cans…..you laugher. Would love to come but it's a bit far for us as Murray Bridge is 80kms east of Adelaide in SA, And us Koolie lot can keep up with them kelpies no probs

Ok all, very excited at the moment , took Izzi & Pebbles herding training today & we had the best day, they both worked soooo well, I needed to be hit with a stick but I'll learn :D. The trainer said she wanted to keep Izzi herself, yeah "fat chance", & even got home work to do before we go back there, I need to teach "STOP", both pretty well had it before we left but I need to get it sharper. Pebbles needed to be shooshed more than Izzi, she tended to lose concentration, Izzi was always watching the sheep & me & ready to stop any sheep that strayed. Now I'm about to post my very first entry form for May's herding trial & hopefully we'll get our instinct certificate. Enough yapping, don't want to bore everyone to death but just had to tell.
-
I'm about to start herding trials, don't know a thing about them at the moment , Izzi & Pebbles have been to 2 training sesions & the trainer said both would have passed an instinct test if she were judging . We're having another training sesion next Friday, learning what I need to do in the instinct test & starting on HT work, so guess we'll see what happens if we enter the May trial. Hardest part for me is Pebbles is a pusher & Izzi's a caster & I need to change every thing I do when I change dogs , it was so much easier when all I had to do was yell "get right away" & open the gate when Dova & JC brought the cows up . If we do well be ready for the biggest brag, I get really excited when my dogs do well .

After watching your video I pulled out my photos but wasn't sure which BC was yours in the sit & drop stays & I remember seeing you working in the ring, if I had of known who you were I would have said G'day .

I know I'm a couple of days late putting my little brag on, but here it is anyway , I took Pebbles & Izzi to the Dova mock trial on Sunday, we only did CCD because it was our first time. Pebbles failed her stand for examination but I was really pleased with every thing else, only put Izzi in because we were there & she did way better than I expected, the Shepherd next to her in the sit & drop stay got up & took off but Izzi didn't move, wow so proud . Then we went to dog club after we got home, Pebbles got her club certificate & Izzi graduated to grade 4, what a day .
