Thanks for the advice everyone!! She has only had poop caught twice (the day we bought her home and this morning) But I dont want her to have some caught all day while Im at work. So I will just trim it shorter in the area and see how it goes... I was thinking of shaving it, but will try a light trim lol.. I dont think its worms, due to none being in her stools, and she is young (8wks). I picked her up from the sellers house and it was a small unit with a concrete back patio (no access to dirt). So I think the likley hood of worms is 70/30 (possible.. but not likley) What happens with their anal glands? I have seen a few people giving advice to check them.. But I dont understand whats going on with all that? Thanks again for the replies!! She is a great pup all in all. Yaps like a trooper, holds her own against our other puppy, and eats a good meal without an upset tummy. This seems to be the only issue. Oh and the fact she wakes up at 6am each morning and sings out to me (if you can call it singing lol) Im a sleep in person!!! I will then take her outside where both pups will do wees and poohs

We have a new addition to the family, Missy a Pomeranian She seems to get poop caught in her fur occasionally. I had read that we should trim it, but how much? Its getting to winter now and so cold.. I dont want her to freeze her butt off!! Also, We have had her since Saturday, So still learning about her, and we are going to the vet on Friday to get her vac'd and checked out, but I would still like to ask. She seems to be uncomfortable when she poops. She doesnt strain and it comes out eaisly, but she whines a little and then scoots along the ground after she goes. She will also lick herself down there. At first I thought it may be worms, but she only does this behaviour after she does number 2's. Her anus is not flush to her body either, it protrudes by approx 5mm. She was not purchased from a breeder (I know not the greatest thing on this site.. But just stating this so I dont get replies to speak to the breeder) Any thoughts and tips would be great!!

We live behind a tennis court and have an overdoes of tennis balls. Mr Fluffy started playing fetch even when the ball was bigger then his head lol Basically he started playing with it himself and then I think cause the fuzz was stuck in his teeth when I called him, he ended up bringing me the ball. I got excited and then he has done it ever since... Fingers crossed for you

Mr Fluffy only stopped having weeing accidents at about 3 months. He will still poop inside occasionally but thats only if he cant get out. And at least now he does it on a solid surface or the newspaper I leave out for him in the bathroom. Give it time. You can only expect him to go outside if there is a way out. And you can only expect him to go outside when he actually knows that he needs to pee/pooh.. So might be a little bit yet. I began to notice the toileting situation improved when Mr Fluffy didnt toilet in the bathroom over night. Bladder control began maybe?? Goodluck. It takes patients but you will get there... Your pup knows the idea.. Just wait for his bladder to catch up

He sounds like he thinks he owns the place!! lol How old is your dog/puppy?? Does he sleep on the bed as well? I only meant the bathroom as a temp thing. Put him in, get everyone settled and sitting, then let him out without fanfare. or before you answer the door, make him sit a few meters back, and do not allow him to come any futher eg, if he gets up when you start to open the door, close it and make him sit again. You might need a good friend who isnt offended by a door closing in their face for this one!! lol Hopefully when the trainer comes they will be able to help sort out a good technique (AHT I mean as a word.. Short and sharp... Not really sure how to spell what I say lol, You ah ah sounds like what I mean but saying it only once)

Vinegar is the thing to use!! I used to even clean my pet Lizaard cage with it. Gets rid of smells (the vinegar smell will go away fairly quickly) Goodluck with you puppy ps.. its also great on stings from ants, bees and wasps.. and if you have itchy hands/feet.. Works a treat the good ole vinegar!!
-
What do you do that tells him his behaviour is bad?? Check chain? AHT? How do you try correct him?
-
First thing first, when he jumps on the couch go 'AHT' and push him off.. When he tries to jump again make that noise and push him off again.. it may take 5 goes or 20 but he will understand 'AHT' means no and also not to jump up. Dont allow bad behaviour/manners.. You allow one bad habit (no matter how cute) and he wont understand he needs manners. If he jumps on people say 'AHT'. If he wont calm down, then put him in the bathroom with no toys for a few minutes. Then try keep him calm when he comes out. Takes alot of effort to begin with but it will pay off.. Good luck!!

Thanks for the replies everyone... What I meant by 'the vet wasnt there' is, I called at 2 in the afternoon, and the vet that did the vaccination is usually the late shift vet (when the clinic closes at 8pm). So she couldnt ask that exact vet where he had stuck my puppy... Oh and yes I do realise she was probly a nurse... Didnt mean to offend.. Opps... lol.. I do believe that the lump would be from the shot.. But since she couldnt confirm thats where he got jabbed I was still a little concerned. And she had said it would take a few days to go down... But if other puppies have taken longer, Im not so worried... I check it every day and its not getting bigger... So its all good... Thanks heaps for the replies everyone.. I now feel much better

Shiny Coat, What A Dream.

A raw egg or two a week can help... (at least my parents dogs and my old dog benefited from that) Maybe give a huge hair cut and try maintain what grows back?? (no bases to this suggestion btw) -
Do you get paralysis ticks in your area? Or maybe a non venomous snake or spider?? Glad she seems to be doing better.. Goodluck!!
-
maybe just not do toys and get bones and cheap meat and freeze it??? Tasty and ok to destroy!! otherwise the reject shop is great for $2 toys that dont matter if they get killed lol I had a dog that would destroy toys and he LOVED his rubber chicken and the black tyre that they have there... Oh and big blocks of ice with a little wet food in it was also fun for him Good luck!

Mr Fluffy had his last vaccination on the 20/04/09. He was also micro chipped at the same time so the vet did the vaccination away from the chip. I was a wuss and was not in the room when both shots took place. On the 22/04/09 my OH noticed a lump on Fluffy's neck (fleshy lump that is less then a 5 cent piece size and a bit oblong). 23/04/09 I gave my vet a call concerned. The recpetionist said the vet wasnt there but it was more then likely a reaction to the vaccination. She wasnt able to confirm if he gave the shot near his neck. Its now the 29/04/09 and he still have the lump on his neck. It hasnt gown and is not painful. I dont want to keep calling if its nothing to worry about... Should I take him back in to get it checked out? I have even looked at the skin and its not red or causing him irritation... How long do vaccination lumps last for usually? Thanks everyone

My OH thought Mr Fluffy was broken when he did this on the day we bought him home.. lol Does it all the time... The Trainer at Puppy skool said that its dominance.. Its ok to do it as long as it doesnt get out of hand (eg does it to us or starts trying to dominant us) Goodluck!!
-
I havnt bought from a breeder before and have no idea but I supose some q's might be -view the parents -parents temprement and health -any known probs with the breed that you should look out for -if the pup will be wormed and vacc, and when and what you should continue to do -if they toilet train the pup and what you should do to continue the training I would think to ask q's about the dog and also q's that would indicate how well they look after their own dogs (eg opinion on training methods, how often they bath a dog, how often and how much to feed a puppy/dog) Goodluck and make sure to include pics when you get it... Oh and dont accept the pup until its over 8wks (I personally think 10wks is a good age.. everyone is diffrent though)
-
Do you invite ur puppy onto the couch or does he just jump up? I found with Fluffy he was getting a bit too comfortable, and would just jump up and do whatever he pleased. After an evening of not allowing him on the couch, he learnt to stay on the ground. We then started inviting him up and he has since been diffrent.. Good Luck

Yes that is one of the slugs!! There are just so many of them.. Dont they go away when its cold??
-
OMG last night I nearly stepped on a slug... It was well over 10cms long!!!! Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! I have never seen a slug over 2cm's in my life.. They are everywhere!! ATTACK OF THE KILLER SLUGS!!!

I think its so cute... But at first I thought my BF was hurting Mr Fluffy somehow lol.. If Fluffy falls asleep on me he usually doesnt yip.. he just jumps awake, startled, for no reason... Scares the hell out of me lol Im glad everyone else has cute puppy sleeping things too

You should be happy... SELF CLEANING!!

TOUGH LOVE!!! The other night we stayed somewhere new and Mr Fluffy was put in a strange bathroom.. For the first time ever he cried and whigned for over an hour!! My BF wanted to go and get him and bring him to the room.. But I said NO!! lol... He settled down in the end and everything was fine.. You just need to let them cry and not give in.. Dont be concerned about your neighbours or anything... Im sure they will be fine with a few nights of yelping vs years of yelping whenever your out and cant rescue them lol.. And dont think your puppy wont like you because of it.. My bf gives my puppy HEAPS of play time and attention all day long. But when I come home he follows me around and wont play with my BF as much lol... Even though I give tough love... Your puppy will always LOVE YOU!!! Good luck!!

Mr Fluffy has started a strange little thing... He yips like a squeek toy while asleep.. Well I think he is asleep.. Sometimes his eyes are open but he is breathing like he is asleep... Is this just a puppy thing? Like nightmares? Its really funny and I was curious if others have noticed their puppies doing the same thing? He also moves his paws a little bit.. Kinda like he is running...

I figured out where the snails are coming from!! They come and eat the left over bits from his bowl. Id been leaving it out for him to eat the last bit of dry dog food. But I think from now on I will just pick it up and put it away.. Snails are so ewwwwww...
