Hi all! Jess, you must be relieved that the rottie is able to be rehomed. Best of luck with her and your friends! BTW I hope Zee is still getting better. Any more accidents? RJ...Wo-hoo. Well done on selling and buying! Lots of exciting times ahead. Are you going to build and if so, what sort of house are you thinking of? Sorry to be a sticky beak but I love looking at real estate and house plans. Tlc...what news??? Oh you mean the sweet little guy I adopted today! Finally after much and many trials and tribulations, I met and adopted a lovely 14 week Golden Retriever cross. He has a very sweet nature and got on very well with Jane in that they were both pretty low-key and comfortable with each other. I pick him up on Saturday so will post some piccies then. His name is Lochie and he is black and brindle. So no Million Paws walk for us this year but to those that are going, I hope you all have a great time and the weather is kind to you!

Just having a look back at this thread and drooling over everyone's beautiful puppies! Congrats to everyone and I hope its all been mostly plain sailing. This time last year we had Jane, our labby cross as a pup and there were heaps of 'OMFG what have we done" moments. She was such a full on handful but it was all worth it in the end. And now Lochie gets to join the party so the fun begins again. I can't wait to really meet him and get to know him. He is going to be rather large so training will start from day 1. I may have to get a bigger bed though!!!

Well I think he is lovely! Not a nice looking dog to you but beautiful to me! Luckily beauty is in the eye of the beholder otherwise all our dogs would look the same!

Oh Oh Oh...can I please join? I have just adopted a puppy from the RSPCA shelter. He is 14 weeks old and a Golden Retriever crossed with hell who knows! Sorry...no photos til Saturday when I can pick him up from the vets after he is desexed tomorrow. He dosen't look at all like a Goldie. He is black and brindle with a very long kissable nose and long floppy ears. He is on the RSPCA Warrnambool website if you want to have a look...not a great piccie but oh well! I went there with my 14 month old dog and the two seemed very comfortable with eachother. And I got lots of cuddles! After a bit of thought, I have decided to call him Lochie. My very first male dog and I am already in love!

Hey Tenties....you must have been just around the corner from me having a nice lunch while I was head down, bum up at work! A friend of mine from Colac calls Camperdown 'Crappytown" which I think is a little unfair!!!! The bargain basement shop is good for dog toys but I don't get much else there. I have found though that the dog toys from there and IGA last the longest with Jane and she loves em! Got her a few rope toys from the 'basement'. $2.00 each and they are great. Sadly they are probably made by some poor little kid in china!

We use one and think its great! Jane was a super hyper active pup and still is very active in the evenings even after 2 walks and training. The first night we got the diffuser, she actually fell asleep with us in the lounge room which was unheard of before. We still use it now and know when its run out as Jane's energy levels go beyond 'civilised'! Sure enough, we check the Dap and its run out. Just to add though, our vet warned us that it can sometimes take a week or so to work(If it does) so we were pretty surprised on how instantly effective it is. We get ours from our local vets here in Camperdown, Vic. They are excellent in ordering in whatever people want and at pretty reasonable prices so it might be worth having a chat to your vet! Good luck with it!

Happy Birthday Cooper Jay...You hunky spunky you! Looks like everyone had a great day and those cakes look delice!!! Tlc...your photos brought a smile to my dial! -
The Delta info sounds good...maybe not so much for Jane though. Nice dog that she is, her ability to jump up and biff people under the chin just as they are bending down to pat her may mean she wouldn't be suitable. However if we were to get a somewhat smaller and maybe calmer dog in the future it may be a great thing to participate in. How would it work with us full-time workers though?

I think it depends on what sort of dog you have. Jane is not a dog I would trust to recall even though it was something I concentrated on since she was a wee pup. She is hyper-stimulated by movement...even if it is 300 metres away. While at dog training a few weeks ago, she was attending really well and then suddenly stopped and turned 'off' completely. When I looked around at what had distracted her ( and none of the other dogs had even noticed it), it was a small plastic bag blowing along the ground perhaps 200 metres away. We have a lovely small 'mountain' which we walk up and around often. It is surrounded by dairy farms and as we climb, the cows are often just small dots below us. However if one of those tiny cows move away from the main herd she will be totally distracted by it. Thank God for long leads...30 feet of freedom but some control!

Jane and I have really enjoyed Clicker training. For whatever reason, I can mark a behaviour better with the clicker then I can with my mouth so I am sooo much more consistant with training Jane. In this respect, I think Jane is less confused about what she is supposed to do and therefore more relaxed and interested in the 'game'. I also read that a dog processes the clicker sound in a different part of their brain than they process the verbal sound which can influence their ability to 'attend'.

Hi Jess...Glad to hear Zee is feeling better! Must be abit of a relief but I suppose the mystery continues!

I'm pretty sure I would be ok with donating my dogs body to science. Meg was PTS at home on Black Saturday evening. She then spent the night in my room. By the next morning, Meg had definitly left her poor tired old body and it didn't look or feel like her at all anymore...I think thats why I could donate the body as my girl just wasn't in it any more!

Yep a great day had by all! It was fantastic to see so many people and doggies having a fun day at 'fun day'. I think the dogs enjoyed the day as much as us 'handlers' and with incidental training happening the whole time! I think it really helps people to see that training can involve play and vica versa and can be done anytime you are interacting with your dog. Jane was great today! She would be a great obedience dog if she didn't have one major problem....ME! but we have fun and it definitely strenghtens our bond! Great photos Tlc...although I WILL be revising my choice of outfit next time I know the camera is coming out!!!! That photo with Ralph is CLASSIC! Made me giggle!

I am feeling so very very sad for you. Your decision was right and unselfish but I know that your grief will be overwhelming at the moment. He looks like he was a lovely goofy boy but must have been suffering for his temperment to change so you did the very best for him by giving him his wings. Thinking of you and your family during this sad sad time.

Wow...what a great day you guys had Tlc! Thanks for sharing the pics. I can believe how grown up looking Pickles is! Looks like all the doggie ( and people) had great fun! I hope Cooper wasn't too exhausted trying to keep all those energetic Labbies in line. No doubt he had a good lie down afterwards! Tenties...Hi! and congradulations to finally moving in and (hopefully) relaxing in your new home. Fingers crossed your next move is years and years from now. Cavelblaze...woohoo to new puppies! When is she due???? Well we haven't had the best luck in finding another dog but we are off to meet a breeder next week who has a six month old dog for us to meet. Hopefully he will like Jane as much as she will like him!

What a sweet looking dog! And temperment wise, they sound wonderful!
-
Sadly no...but why do you ask???

Our Labby cross has her front dew claws and they don't seem to give her any problems at all. In fact I have watched her use them to hold her bones with and also to groom her face with so I think they are a pretty necessary tool for her. The nails don't seem to get too long either!

My lovely 14 1/2 year old girl was pts last year on black saturday night. We knew the end was coming and I promised her she would not have to go to the vets as she was always such a sooky lala there so I rang the vets and they came to the house 20 minutes later. The timing was terrible as we had had fires in the area and we had a family of 6 staying with us who had been evacuated from their property but it was suddenly time for Meg and I couldn't let her suffer. I carried her to my bedroom where she had slept all her life and I lay on my bed with her as the vet gently put her to sleep. Because I was able to do this for her in the familar surroundings of her own home in her own bed, it gave me a great sense of peace in a time of incredible sorrow. The vet was lovely. He had to kneel down beside the bed and work with pretty shocking lighting but all he did was soothe and talk to my girl and me and then left quickly and quietly. I shall be forever grateful to the vets for letting me fulfill my final promise to my sweet little mate and it did make her passing that much easier to bear.

Hang in there! It may take awhile but you will get there in the end. Jane was one tough cookie as she has been pushing the boundries since day one but she is finally getting there...and our bond with her is stonger I think because of this. Some dogs just have bigger, more out-there personalities. I HIGHLY recommend the book 'Pigs can Fly'...sorry can remembder the author. It specifically looks at how to train and understand dogs who are not necessarily 'biddable' and is great at teaching you how to clicker train. It really turned things around for me and Jane as we both started having fun with each other and it was great to watch her really think and nut things out when shaping behaviours. Please please have a read!

What a lovely looking little fella! Congradulations to you and the beautiful Ivy! I've never had a 'boy' before either but hoping to welcome one into the family in the near future. Hope it continues to go well and remember to take loads of piccies...they don't stay puppies for very long!

Hi all! Jane and I went last year when she was still a pup and we had a great time! No barking noisy dogs that I remembered...just friendly ones of all shapes and sizes! Planning to go this year but how far we get will be up to Jane and her talent to stop and prop! Should be fun though...especially if I remember to bring the ezywalk harness! Weather wasn't too bad either...especially for w'bool near the beach at that time of year!!!

Hi Jess...sorry to hear that you are still having problems. This might sound abit icky but does her urine smell any different??? Urine infections often smell abit off or fishy. Urine can also have a funny or sweet odour if there is a metabolic problem. Ok...something even ickier...did you smell the tissue???? Urinary incontinence in desexed dogs often happens when they are asleep as the bladder spincter relaxes from the pressure of the urine in the bladder. Its normally quite a flood at the time. Seeing as she wee'd when she got a fright, do you think it may be a submissive behaviour? We had a dog who whould wee when someone came to the door. She was hyper-excited but also quite submissive and would wee while lying on her back wagging her tail at the visitor. I don't think she was even aware she was doing it! Good luck with her Jess...I hope you get some answers soon.

Oopps...sorry about the double post!

Hi everyone! Some lovely weather forecast for this weekend so I hope everyone enjoys it! Great weather for moving, Tenties! Jess...how is Zee going with her UTI! Have you got the results back yet from her culture? Tlc...Did you try teaching your guys to dribble a basketball...if so, how did they go??
