  1. Well I dont know where the time has gone but our beautiful Abbie has been here for six months and she has wiggled and kissed her way well and truly into our hearts, to the rescuers that helped us bring her over to South Australia I still can not thank you all enough
  2. I would be ringing the fire brigade, police and rspca as that is a long time to be stuck Dog must be hooked or caught on something and could be injured and in pain.
  3. Rest in peace Ray, there is a nobility in senior dogs that touches deeply, my thoughts are with you and your family as you work through your loss
  4. Moselle, I fail to understand why: * you'd take a reporters view of what Mr Linke said as gospel - its not like you heard him comment yourself. You don't know what else he said and how selectively he may have been quoted or even misquoted. Anyone who has dealt with media knows what people say and what journalists report don't necessarily match. The fact of the matter is you're interpreting a media report and have no idea about the intent of Mr Linke's words. It doesn't seem to matter to you at all that the local RSPCA did not put the boot into pitbulls. Believe me when I say that your local RSPCA CEO would have done so in steel capped Doc Martins. * you continue to use a second hand report of a statement to infer conclusions that you cannot support. * you are so heated about this. I am not heated about this but I am annoyed given that it is still continuing; I have stipulated time and time again that I am still of the same opinion and that is that I have found Mr. Linke's statement to be incriminatory to the mastiff and staffy, I haven't wavered and also said that I am not about to change my mind! Ever since I started this thread everyone has been jumping up and down and constantly barraging me with questions and wild accusations, namely the one implying that I have a hidden agenda (post written by robbi); gosh what next?? ....how many times do I need to go on repeating myself? And you wonder why I am getting annoyed? One other thing, you are saying that I am wrongly taking a reporter's view of what Mr. Linke said as gospel....I could turn that around and say "how do you know that it was a reporter's view?" Can you actually confirm that it was indeed the reporter who turned things around? Given that Mr. Linke supposedly came on here and said his piece, I would have thought that if indeed his own wording had been misconstrued that he himself would have tried to correct this! Actually Moselle, I didn't say you had a hidden agenda, I said you had an agenda and a blatently obvious one at that. You are trying to incite anger towards Mr Linke when none is deserved.
  5. The ACT RSPCA has been very fair minded with its dealings with APBT's unlike every other state, Michael Linke has the respect of many knowledgeable and ethical people in the dog world. I feel there is an agenda in the OP's mind as she has now been making a prolonged attack and misinterpreting Mr Linkes comments over the course of days regardless of the fact that time and time again her arguement has been debunked Who is the real victim of such vitriol, Mr Linke or yet again our poor APBT's
  6. I agree, regardless of no dogs inside mine would be Can you not just allow them in one room, if they are older dogs they should be no problem and a quick vacuum each evening and an open window would keep everything fresh
  7. Wonderful, positive messages about Pit Bulls
  8. They do. You need to read more posts here. Other breeds do get hassled, I have had coursing dogs in the past and have heard all sorts of rubbish said about sighthounds and their killing capacity, I have been told my Whippet should be muzzled in a public place. German Shepherd, Rottweiler and Doberman owners also know only too well the small mindedness of some people with breed prejudices. There is nothing funny about BSL it is canine genocide.
  9. Thank you. Ultimately we should not be fighting about training methods. We as dog lovers have a greater fight...in BYBers, Puppy mills, Abuse to dogs, and the number of dogs ending up in shelters. That is what we should be focusing on together--Not allowing training methods to seperate us. Very true, we need to be unified as dog owners and lovers against the great wrongs done to dogs not fighting amongst ourselves and I think most of us see the bigger picture and are open to new ideas and opinions and those that differ in opinion are no less entitled to theirs
  10. Your reaction is typical of the lynch mob mentality that the mass media thrives on, the Pit Bull is much maligned and often innocent of wrong doings so much so it has a name-Brown Dog Syndrome, the general public is so adament that every dog attack by a medium sized dog is a Pit Bull rampage People are passionate about defending the Pit Bull and other Bullies against the horrible prejudices that are heaped on them by the (largely) ill informed public. Ignorance is a killer and too many people have had their beloved family pets killed due to looking like a Pit Bull. It annoys me that if a Pit Bull is slandered and abused people are not meant to defend them but anybody should be allowed to defend their breed from nasty verbal attacks and if it comes accross as over defensive, well no wonder. Lest we forget.....The 1000's of Pitbulls killed by people with the same thoughts as yours.
  11. I leave my elderly Kelpie, Whippet and Bull Arabx inside for up to 5 hours when I go to work, usually the Bull Arabx is in her crate in the lounge as she has eaten part of the house when left inside, I give her a kong and pig ear and she is happy. The other 2 have the run of the house and are no problem at all, usually asleep when I get home :D
  12. My dogs are safely indoors when I am not home, this gives me peace of mind that they are as safe as can be and that they are not causing anybody problems with fence running, any sheep attacks in the district are definitely not my dogs and also importantly they are safe from people :p I would never leave my dogs in a situation that could injure/kill them, maybe inside is your option if you wont use a bark collar-however have you thought of the bark collar that squirts citronella?
  13. What a well done video, beautiful, brave and tenacious dogs giving their all for their families. Bullies need all the good publicity they can get and this video is good as it is not done to "gagsta" music and doesn't show any pro dog fighting behaviour :p
  14. There are many things that can be done rather than BSL to help prevent dog attacks but the politicians and media aren't interested, they want to dstroy all Pit Bulls and any dogs unfortunate enough to look like one. I certainly dont want innocent dogs attacked on the street by out of control dogs but I also dont want to see dogs killed due to a backward law that targets dogs by what they look like. Surely something as simple as a canine good citizen program would be appropriate, if the Pit Bull owner was unwilling to do the right thing by the dog and socialise and train it then heavy penalties would apply but the owner willing to train their dog would be encouraged. This isn't possible at the moment as Pit Bulls often aren't welcome at obediance clubs and many owners are too worried about their dog being wrongly accused of wrong doings to bring them into the public eye.
  15. Poor Penny, we are sending gentle whippet hugs to you both, dog parks are becoming a war zone lately :D Good luck at the vets.
  16. "Unless you have actually experienced the fighting potential of a good Pitbull by training them to such a level to extract their ability, people raising and keeping a Pitbull as a family pet and promoting the breed on those qualities seen really need to see the other side of the breed then perhaps they would understand why the breed is subject to BSL." I dont want to see any dog being taught to fight Any dog can be ill treated and abused until its only defence is aggression. Pit Bulls have many talents that dont include aggression lets focus on those not the macho bullsh@t that has caused the misconceptions in the first place. Pit Bulls excel as therapy dogs ,service dogs, agility and dock dogs and have been trained as successful search and rescue dogs. To quote Cesar Milan" you dont give somebody who cant drive a car a Ferrari". If you dont want to socialise and train your dog dont get a dog especially not a Pit Bull. I will continue to defend the Pit Bull and all dogs against public ignorance and media bias but I dont need to see a Pit Bull fight to see the other side of them BTW Dog fights are illegal and monstrous acts of barbarianism I find this quote very upsetting k9Nev
  17. They look to be "angel wings", they shouldn't be marked down in the ring, sometimes dogs become bleached or brassy if they are not getting enough copper in their diet but if the rest of the coat is fine and it is only the wings you dont need to worry.
  18. I bet that the thought of Banjo waiting for him to come home gave the poor guy the encouragement and fighting spirit to get through his tragedy Thank you to all helped this happen, there are some true angels involved in dog rescue
  19. "It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." ~ Unknown
  20. I am so sorry for your loss, 16 years is such a long time and yet at the same time not nearly long enough Run free dear Chancey knowing you were well loved by your family
  21. Many years ago, I was walking my Kelpie and Staghound along a country track near the farm I used to live on, the Kelpie kept running back the way we had come but Charli my Staggie was happy to trot along next to me so I tied the leash to each of their collars So 2 quite strong boistrous dogs tied together by about 1 metre of rope, this went well for about 10 metres with them trotting nicely next to me until they dropped back and then ran up behind me ;) One dog ran to the left of me and the other went to the right of me with the rope pulled tight, it got me behind the knees and almost flipped me into a summersault :D The dogs very quickly got untied and it took me week to dig all the pebbles out of my legs and elbows. All I can do is blame youthful stupidity I think!!
  22. It is the most awful thing to experience walking in on the aftermath of a destructive episode Abbie my latest arrival did quite a bit of damage in the first few weeks after she arrived and I really didn't know how i was going to manage her behaviour-2 mobile phones eaten, two chairs and one couch shredded, half my mattress eaten in my bedroom and probably some things i have blocked from my mind :D Thanks to Lisa and Kobe for lending me their pen which I have set up in my dining room, actually it takes up most of my dining room, I had to remove all the furniture and convert it in to Abbietraz, now whenever I cant supervise what she is up to its straight in the pen with her kong but I am sure she still would eat the house if I let my guard down. So no advice from me just a kindred soul, hoping all settles down and Champa ceases and desists his appetite for destruction.
  23. Jed, your posts will continue to inspire and educate me as they always have now however I find your strength of spirit and determination to survive after such a tragedy awe inspiring. If you ever would like a holiday down here in cold South Australia you are more than welcome to come and stay in the beautiful Adelaide Hills with us. Know that there are so many of us that walk beside you in your battle never feel alone
