  1. I'm probably wadding in abit late here and to be honest I didn't read all the other pages, I actually made myself sit down and watch this show and to be honest I was disappointed. I kind of thought they didn't show the worst of it, I also thought they let the puppy farm portray itself in a ?good? (not the word I want, can't think of it) light. We have a bitsa pound dog (gotten as a pup) and a pedigree and truthfully I love them both, I would love to see manditory desexing for regular people like me, especially with bitsa's. I know they can be the best dogs it's just so many are killed everyday and now a days there aren't many bitsa as such but designer dogs. I work for/with a large organisation and since getting out pedigree dog and finding this site my eyes have been opened, I never really thought about where puppies came from and have bought a pet shop dog before, admittedly he was a cattle cross and only cost $85 not the ones you see today, my childhood puppy was a $10 newspaper special, again not a designer. Anyway since becoming more aware I've been talking to people at work and it amazes and disgusts me, they don't think they are puppy farmers/backyard breeders but so many of them have pure breed dogs (out of the paper, no papers or proof) that they breed and sell on the work board for $$, minimum I've seen is for $300 again with no papers or even health testing of the parents. It annoys me they go on about how they don't do it for the money, yet none of them test parents, chip puppies or any thing else. I really think we need to do something about this, I don't really know what or how, talking to the people I know doesn't seem to work up here it is a family thing they all do. In a way I'd love to see people just join together and come up with a plan to stop the every day distruction and deposale of dogs. I thought maybe they should push this more or even in some way aim the education at younger generations, wonder if we could get something introduced into high school ?
  2. Mother in law did this with both her cats, big pots. Still has them and they move with her no dramas. I'm 163 and the pots are roughly half my height. Our cat and bird is in our front garden with lavander growing on them and shoots of the lavander will go wherever we do, our dog was cremated and sits on our book shelf, I still talk to him and dust often.
  3. Haven. Thisledous (this will do us) I love haven or something along those lines.
  4. not sure if you've seen this from > Hawkesbury Nsw in rescue

  6. That one in Townsville is actually different to the Charters Towers one, Charters Towers is Contact kimmy (Husky Rescue Qld) Contact: kim Phone: 0407760146 Address: 18 Melville st Charters Towers QLD 4820 not sure if they are connected ? More then happy to ask around after them both or visit and meet the Townsville lady if she is willing. Same with Charters Tower I'm sure I could collect and take Bailey out there (its about 1 1/2hrs from T'ville) if that helps.
  7. Contact Kyles (Husky Rescue Qld) Contact: Kylie Phone: 0419 264 587 Address: Townsville QLD There is also this lady, more then happy to give a little $ for transport if it helps, would only be about 50 but might make a difference.
  8. K9Angel, I had a lady ask me about him today from the ad posted on the board, she was in Canberra and going to email you, Irene was her name (I think, terrible memory these days). She was also going to look up this thread so hopefully that may lead to something. She had another husky and 2 poodles and was trying to find out if he would be ok with them? Keep an eye on your emails, as I sent it to her (hope you don't mind). I bumped him again today and will do so on Monday too if he's not taken by then. I'm in Townsville and my cousin is in the Towers so if you want me to ask her about the husky rescue I'd be more then happy too. I have seen their rescue thing on a few sites but forget exactly which. Cheers, Leanne
  9. Hi all, Wasn't quite sure if I should post this here or training section, anyway Seirra has just turned 1 and have been thinking about doing this with her. I am after some idea of what they expect of the dogs, she is gentle and sweet natured but can still get excited at times and I'm not sure if that is allowed. She is a German Shepherd so on the larger size. Can touch her any where etc but at times she will push for a pat or lick, paw. I was hoping to find the requirements on the delta dog site but all I can find it seems I need to buy something first ? If someone could explain the details to me that would be great, the other thing is we are in Townsville so does anyone up here do it and with who ? Thanks
  10. Thanks for the replys and thoughts, I've had a couple of PM's too that I'm following up in regards to gaining information. Good point about not showing I don't feel I know enough so I'm going to find some one in the area to have a look at Sierra as the first thing, if she doesn't meet standards in general (talking about the looks and requirements not health) we'll desex her, if she meets those then we'll do further testing. I have been keeping an eye on the breeding threads and they are very scary, I imagine if all goes well its brillant but am not sure I could cope with a loss. I do worry about puppies and homing I know there are alot of GSD here in Townsville they are always in the paper, I think most of these are without papers, I always think too I don't want to have puppies and have them used as breeders for $$ so it is very daunting and I'm only thinking about it not doing it ! I'm in no rush so will keep researching and learning and going step by step through the process. Thank you all again for your time, thoughts and sharing your experience.
  11. I'm not 100% sure if her breeder would be overly interested, just an impression I got I could be wrong. We got her up from Sydns ey and we are in Nth QLD, there are quite a few breeders and a GSD club in town so will see some people from them and get their impressions. She has only just had her first season and that did leave an impressions, no dramas but wow wasn't she a little tart. Thank you for giving me a starting point.
  12. Hi all, I read the sticky and am hoping I'm not breaking any rules posting here, I'm just after some advice and opions. We own a GSD bitch, she is on the mains register and not quite 12 mth old (born on the 31/01/08). Anyway we have all the paperwork for her etc showing about her parents and the generation thing, that's all good. Now what is kind of in the back of our minds is to breed with her. We are not in any rush and know there are lots to things to do before deciding. At the moment my plan is to wait until she is 12mths (or a little older) then have her scored for hips and elbows, depending on how that goes register with the CCCQ and ANKC (these I am a little unsure about just in how one goes about it, owners sitting tests etc), then getting her temperment tested by the GSD assosication. If she passes both the test then will think about it further if she fails one she will be desexed. Now where I'm wondering is, we don't show her, she does do obedience and will start agility once she is grown (we are also looking into becoming a delta dog again at the right time) if this the case would we be right in breeding her if she meets all requirements, would other prue breed owners even be interested? Basically assuming she does pass everything, I think she is a really good dog and would like keep a pup or 2 produced by her for our family. Can people please throw suggestions and questions out there that will get me to consider things I have missed or need to think over. My main thing is if she does pass everything would I be ethical breeding with her considering there are so many other dogs out there in need of a home, I kind of feel since we don't show we shouldn't breed but then I think temperment is more important than looks, in a way it would be a purely selfish reason as we want her puppies to add to our family and grow with us but in all likely hood she would have more then we could keep. Very new to this and still thinking things through, the only other animals I have let reproduce are my ducks so any advice would be appreciated.
  13. Kenny if doing something I don't like will have his name yelled at him if he comes he gets pats etc, when he ignores me (usually in favor of annoying a cat or chasing the chooks with the pup) will do a quick glance and keep going, 2nd yell will usually stop look at me look back at ? and go back to ?, by third yell my tone of voice is cross and I do the click fingers and point at him then down to me and he comes. He then gets a pat and good boy.
  14. She's still young 12wks on Saturday, that's why I'm thinking get in early. The old boys nearly 9 yrs but he only does it if the pup does so if I stop her it'll all be good. I'm thinking maybe a tin with a chain/marbles in to throw and distract her when she does it? She's a German Shepherd.
  15. Hi, Our puppy is growing well and gaining confidence, she is now chasing the chooks and ducks and of course if she does it the big dog joins in. I can stop Kenny by yelling his name (usually takes 3 times) but she just keeps going. I'm not sure if I should be using an aversion, just taking her out on the leash or trying to reward (although she doesn't stop)? Help and suggestions would be great.
  16. Thanks they are back together now, both in with us, and the pups much more reserved and polite. Both still wagging tails and sniffing but no jumping and biting at this stage. I think I'll just let it go for now and if/as soon as he starts growling again will remove her to her crate. I'll post a photo just 'cause its cute and you'd think butter wouldn't melt in their mouth (mean while I'll try not to have a heart attack at their antics.) I love the new girl, who can resist a pup but my old boy is magnificent he is just so good with us and the kids.
  17. I didn't think to post here before, it was suggested to me and hopefully someone can help I'm having a problem at the moment and am after some advice Firstly (I posted this in the general discussion area too) I hope I'm being slight paranoid here so please bear with me. We have a nearly 9yr old desexed male shepherd x and a 9 wk old pure breed shepherd. Just now the older dog had a bit of a go at the pup. Basically the pups been acting boisterous all day, I think Ken's getting a little jack of her. She arrived Thursday night, at first he avoided her and ran when she came close, today it progressed to him growling when she was biting his ear and trying to steel the toys out of his mouth, he still move away from her and we removed her too. At one stage she grabbed his toy and tried to pull it out of his mouth and he pinned her down and growled (kept the toy in his mouth so no biting) but about 5 minutes ago she did something and he pinned her down and bit her ear, about 3 or 4 times (no shaking her but a few bites) she screamed blue murder and I pulled him off (he did not resist) I popped him outside, checked her ear (wet no blood) popped her in her crate (she's now resting) and let him back in. Now do you think this was correction or slight dangerous? They are never left alone together, but as above it took me about 5 seconds to get round the table and remove him and I'm not sure if its just him teaching her manners or if they need a more structured introduction. Also I'm not sure if I acted the right way in removing him then letting back in. Sorry haven't done this for a long time and I'm not sure if he should of just pinned her or what?
