  1. Signed and put it up on my Facebook status. Poor horse
  2. I am changing Shyla from Eagle Pack Hollistic to Royal Canin Junior German Shepherd dry food. When changing dry foods is there a certain way I should phase out of the old and into the new? Over a span of a week, would that b ok? I guess I'll add in a bit by bit and monitor her poos as well. Hope she likes RC! I'm over Eagle Packs lack of availability
  3. May explain why my mums golden retriever is overweight!
  4. Yep if I had returned when Shyla was screaming and carrying on, with a breed that smart she would have DEFINATELY thought that was the way to demand attention, and I would have created an instant problem on my hands. Dogs repeat what gets results - so if you come back into the room when they are making a fuss, of course they will make a fuss next time ~ and for even LONGER if they have to! I dunno I go by that theory as it's tried and tested
  5. Oh gosh, This is so so sad RIP Bindi what a tragic event
  6. Yep that is a problem, I have to take the ropey thing away after asking her to open, otherwise she opens it non stop when I go back to my computer
  7. I was giving her 500IU daily in her food (putting a hole in the capsules and squirting the liquid on her kibble) Probably made no difference but made me feel better
  8. My girl had localized demodex on the side of her nose a few months ago, a scraping found only one mite but I applied properly-diluted Demadex wash to the area once a week as well as sponging the solution over her neck and legs and applying it carefully on the rest of her nose. After 3 treatments (3 weeks) the hair had grown back HEAPS so I didn't keep applying it for the further 2 weeks (very potent stuff). I had also added Vitamin E to her diet and treated her with Advocate, so now sure which one helped or whether it went away on it's own. Either way it was a GREAT sight noticing it disappearing and the hairs growing back
  9. Oh how I remember those days I had a few crying sessions when I first got Shyla, thinking I had made the wrong decision. She would SCREAM MURDER when left alone when we went to work, and when my mum would come to check on her at lunch she would hear her crying (whether she stopped and started again who knows) so I was EXTREMELY worried and stressed for a few weeks, almost regretting getting a dog while working f/t. But lo and behold... she DID get better, and now I can leave her and come home and shes always always quiet upon us getting home, and my amazing neighbors said she cries/whinges for about 5-10mins after we first leave, then she is quiet the rest of the day (10hrs). So being a shepherd (a very VOCAL dog) I think that's a pretty good result! I have a routine when I leave her, I always ALWAYS : ~ Leave the radio on a soft calming station ~ Leave her with a super comfy bed ~ Leave her with lots of toys ~ Leave her with a few of the following: a bowl of her food, a kong filled with food, I scatter kibble over the floor (so she has to hunt them all down and eat them all one by one), a bone, a roo tail, a carrot ~ Leave her with her dog door open for indoor/outdoor access I have found giving her her food as soon as we rush out the door (quietly) is good because she is distracted and doesn't "care" we are leaving at the time. She will watch me close the sliding door and lock it, but will keep eating happily (cant b THAT worried!) So it gives us enough time to get out of the driveway and go before she finishes and comes outside. It also makes us leaving a positive thing cos she gets FOOD! And the kong is ALWAYS given no matter when or for how long, it's the classic sign we are leaving. As is us getting ready in the bathroom She knows routine. I think its all about routine. They get used to your life and how they will be living, they get USED to the fact you come and go. That takes some, sometimes longer than others, my girl took a month to stop crying a LOT. But it DOES get better, I definitely thought it never would and would get into my car and cry on the way to work :D But it diiiid!
  10. One day, around 5 months of age, my girl suddenly realized what balls were for! now we play fetch every single day, whether it came with age or what I'm not sure, but she definately had no interest in it when younger
  11. i definately need help with focus also, Shyla is a gem at home, but out with distractions she barely wants to heel at all
  12. Stunning, just stunning Happy Birthday Luka!
  13. I reckon give Eagle Pack a whirl! Shylas doing brilliantly on it, shes on the Holistic one but not sure how different it is to the standard EP range
  14. I got a plastic pocket binder book thing full of information, her Registration Certificate, her Pedigree tree, an A4 photo fo her mum, an A4 photo of dad, our purchase contract, FAQ about puppy care, 2 articles on being the leader and leadership, GSDCV information, and their own instructions on what to feed her and what they have been doing etc. It's very handy cos I now use the rest of the remaining empty binder to keep anything "Shyla" together - her pet insurance form, vet receipts, baby teeth, obedience handouts etc. So if I ever need anything I can consult the one place! I also got a dog food showbag type thing, a leash and collar, bag of her food, her favorite toy with her familar smells on it (aw), and 4 free lessons to the GSD club. Definately loved the binder book of information!!
  15. That is just so sad, so many losses and they hadn't even started their lives yet What a terrible experience for any one, for any breeder, for any dog lover. RIP little ones
