Being a uni student I was able to stay home with them until I was comfortable. Initially Jedi was a bit rough with her with excitement but Ahsoka is a feisty one and had her wits about her! She worked out very quickly how to hold her own (and places to hide that Jedi was too big for!) I believe it was the end of day 2 when I was comfortable having them together without supervision. Whenever we get a new pup we take the first week off to spend with them anyway and gradually introduce them to being 'alone'. Ok that doesn't sound too bad, thanks Nik!! I guess it's a watch and see how they go thing, if I had to separate I thought of putting pup in the kitchen area with a divider which leaves a small area, but then it would crack the poos every time Shyla would go out her dog door and would probably cry more
-
Just googled the breed, holy moley yeah good luck, that's one heck of a working breed!!!!! Not a dog to be left in the yard while you're at work and just given a walk and training session, that dog needs a heck of a daily working routine
-
Thanks corvus! I guess they are all different hey. Can't wait to get a lappie!! My main worry in getting a pup is where to keep it when we go to work, I would have to keep it separated from Shyla initially til I know they get along, where did people keep their 2nd pup when in this situation? When do you know it's time to leave them just together?
-
I kept my pup indoors until she was used to being alone (ie no more screaming) then I let her outside. She spent the first 5 weeks I had her indoors 5 days a week while we were at work, and she was more than fine. Sometimes it's not as easy as making a run and putting a puppy in it when you have neighbors and want to keep noise to a minimum. Not a lot of puppies will be silent when you put them outside initially! I took the safe route and started mine off inside. It was fine, and I would do it again

Never soaked my dry food after Shyla was 12wks plus. I feed Royal canin now and it's a moister/oilier kibble anyway and smells great (I think so too LOL) so Shyla loooves it as it is
-
Yeah sounds normal to me!! Shyla only barks if something unusual disturbs her like a strange sound or a possum. When she gets set off (which isnt often) she barks quite a bit for a few minutes max (is that a long time, it feels like it when you wait for them to stop LOL) but if I go out there and tell her off she stops right away. Just wish there was a way to make her barking bouts a lil shorter like 5 yaps
-
Oh so little and tender and sweet. RIP Patch
-
I'm sure they bark but I haven't read any profile saying they are known for barking??? Shyla barks at strange noises or if she gets a fright, which is fine by me, and is vocal at dinner and play time which I would expect from most dogs I just don't want a big nuisance barker who barks for the heck of it! So I thought lappies were ok *goes off and cries* LOL

Out of all the breeds I have researched with interest, this one stands out as the best!! Usually I love a breed, look into it, then oh they are barkers, oh they prefer to be without other dogs, oh they have this or that hereditary problem.. Lappies sound PERFECT!
-
This is definately my next breed of dog, hopefully in a year or so! (if I can hold off!) Just wanted to announce that :)

Was interested in a Elkie for my 2nd dog but have crossed them off the list cos of their tendency to bark I will have to admire pics!

Our Dogs Are Eating Our House!

I am not going to walk outside in an electrical storm in a park full of trees that is subject to flooding. I'll walk them in a light rain, but not in a storm. Sorry it's just not worth the risk. No one said you had to walk them in an electrical storm, that would be stupid! I agree on the walks and even short ones are beneficial. My shepherd is not high energy, we walk around the block every single morning at 7am, it's only a 25-30 minute walk but it satisfies her migration/out-of-home stimulation and it's also very relaxing for both of us. If she was more high energy or actually asked for walks (she doesn't ask for walks at all, phew lol) I would walk her much longer, but for now she's happy with the block walk every morning, a 15 minute session of hard fetch, and then she is happy to sleep and behave herself for the 10hours she is alone (with no other dog for company either mind you). She has never ever chewed doorframes or anything that isn't hers for that matter, and I put it down to her having enough stimulation and all her needs being met -
How do you "block the colors" ?

Beautiful!!!!!!!!! i really want to try that now, altho I won't be able to create something that awesome lol

Well OH and Shyla and I took a road trip 3hrs up to Shepparton on Friday night as OH had to drop some chairs up there, so we booked into a pet friendly B&B located at a cheesary farm (lol). We got there at 11pm it was a bit late oops, but Shyla took great to a different home! She went to bed under the bed (usual routine) and all was well til the farm noises started at 2am, random birds chirping, some weird bird that sounds like its yelling HELP!, rustling in bushes... so she came out from under the bed and spent an hour roaming around woof woofing and on guard, lol. So apart from that it was good, and in the morning we explored the farm a little. A few pics -

Annie & Bronte's Play Date
all that glitters replied to SmoothieGirl's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Awesome photos!!!! WOW has Bronte matured in her looks or what, what a nice adulty collie face she is getting!!! Oh that Aussie is beautiful too, I'm getting a bit of a craving for a tri color aussie, that ain't helping! -
So very young, what happened if you don't mind? He was a cutie
-
Yep they sure sure do. They are just so easy to fall in love with but so hard to part with. What happened to poor Ozzie going so early in life if you don't mind me asking? He was amazingly adorable
-
My word you have a little devil of a dog don't you! :D Shyla cut her paw pad at OH's work on a pallet jack and the cut was 1cm and she left blood spots all up the stairs at his work. Vet said we can get away with not stitching it but she had to wear a bandage/booty on that foot for 5 days. Surprisingly she hardly touched the bandage apart from chewing at random strands coming off it, and she was limp on that foot on and off for about a week. When we pulled the booty off WHEW the smell was BAD LOL, like a really dirty old sock haha. But the wound I couldn't even see anymore! So having it covered up sure works on letting it heal without issues
-
ROFL lightening bolts! EVERYONE comments on her ear fluffs haha, our instructor at obedience calls her butterfly LOL I'm very sad to say that as she has aged the ear fluff has reduced and is thinning out, there may be no lightening bolts in future lol
