Medium- Large Breeds Not Prone To Hd
all that glitters replied to teekay's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am also considering a GAP greyhound for a companion for Shyla! How do they do at being left home alone 2 or 3 days a week with another dog for company, are they OK considering they are so affectionate and human oriented? -
Exactlyyyyyyy I would like to know how the pup is also, hope they come back
-
Is that directed at me?? I'm actually just saying to her that it's a good idea in future to EXPECT things to happen, incase you misread what I wrote. Sheesh. Usually people offer each other good advice and ideas and that was one of them, so get off your high horse

How are they about being left alone - with dog company when owners go to work?

In the future, EXPECT pets to get sick so you can be prepared for anything that may happen I never think my pets are gonna be totally healthy all the time, illness and accident can come around in the next hour on any given day so you never know what the future holds! Hope pup gets seen to and gets better poor bub

Wow, I have started to do some heelwork with Shyla in drive with her Frisbee (which she goes nuts for) and WOW is all I can say, she heels with so much focus and high stepping strides it's amazing Compared to just using food where she is bored and only looks up occasionally, the difference is amazing. BUT.. the issue I have is she doesn't give back her frisbee/ball at the moment, we usually have to distract her and snatch the item. So using these items to get her working in drive works well BUT cos it's an effort to get the item back, we don't get much done! Also how would I get her to heel the same way in class where I won't be using the item that puts her in drive? Over time will her heelwork in general just get heaps better even without the Frisbee?

Will Be Away From Puppy For First Time
all that glitters replied to Bubitty's topic in General Dog Discussion
I spent my very first night away from Shyla a few weeks ago when OH and I spent the night at my bosses house (he had a farewell party for me there) and Bel (Bindii) babysat Shyla!! I have to admit I didn't worry AT ALL cos Bel is Shylas aunty and I totally trust her, if anything I was more worried Shyla would be naughty LOL. BUT on reporting back it seems she was a good girl for the most part, and even slept alone in the lounge in a big show crate without a peep! Sometimes they surprise you with how they end up behaving in certain situations BUT for a long holiday (1 week +) I would fret without her with me, sooo that's why we have just booked a 6 day holiday in the Tarra Valley at a dog holiday park! So she comes with us and its all good -
Red Rash Like A Hot Spot?
all that glitters replied to Chiwogabull*'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Shyla got demodex mange on the left side of her muzzle at about 5 months of age, I FREAKED out imagining my beautiful girl turning red and bald, but the vet assured me she wouldn't and gave me the Demadex Wash too. He said to apply it diluted to the area and to sponge it over her back and neck and legs, once a week for 5 weeks. We did it for a few weeks, then just applied it to the spot only the last 3 times (cos the stuff stank and I could see it wasn't spreading). I felt bad using that stuff cos it's pretty strong and bad for them -
Yep that's the thing that put me off the Mals initially!

15 Week Old Min Schnauzer Started Barking At Night
all that glitters replied to Laila's topic in Puppy Chat
WHAT!!! the dog's already stressed, he will go beserk chained up the poor thing Yep! and the last thing I want is to worry about a dog being locked outside at night and worrying they will start barking and you have to get up to tell them off (I hate getting up in the night). And if you don't, well you may have complaints from people who are trying to sleep like everyone else! -
11 Mth Old Puppy, Now Starting To Whine At Night If Home Alone
all that glitters replied to LuvBella's topic in Puppy Chat
Does she have interactive toys as well as ordinary toys? Treat ball that she has to roll around to get treats out of, a kong full of yummy goodies (I do peanut butter and kibble, or frozen chicken etc), a empty plastic coke bottle filled with kibble with holes in it so they come out, a carrot hidden in the garden etc). It could be a phase, how long has she been doing this new behavior? Shyla cried on and off, she would cry some mornings we left, and didn't cry others. The neighbors said she hardly ever cries now, only sometimes. So maybe on those 'sometime' says she's protesting our departure or feeling a bit moody! Who knows -
11 Mth Old Puppy, Now Starting To Whine At Night If Home Alone
all that glitters replied to LuvBella's topic in Puppy Chat
Has there been a storm recently that may have spooked her? Have you been home more with her lately? My shepherd cries some mornings when we leave and sometimes doesn't, our lovely neighbors next to us adore Shyla too and care for her wellbeing and they said they barely hear her now compared to when she was a little puppy. But occasionally she will still cry a bit when we leave, I think it's just her way of protesting. If she's showing no other signs of anxiety (destructive behavior, excessive drooling, scratched doorways etc) then maybe she just gets bored and whines a bit wondering if you're getting home or anticipating your arrival? -
How Does Your Dog Singal He Needs To Go Out For A Wee?
all that glitters replied to Snowball's topic in Puppy Chat
Shyla will jump up on the flywire window above her dog door and we hear her feet hit the wood/window pane. Or if we don't hear that she will come and start whining (she NEVER whines otherwise) and then I ask her "toilet??" and she will let out a shrill YAP!! Like "YES!" and out we go, hehe -
RIP Diesel, you were loved so so very much

"I love my Royal Canin GSD junior food!!" "Wheee I'm so happy mum stocked me up with 3 big bags to cover me til after Xmas" "Hmm, I'm thinking I'll start with the third bag"
-
I do the backwards another way, I make her stay stand and then I go behind her and say "reverse" and she will back up til she ends up between my legs! that way she's coming towards me herself, and not me going towards her!

Toddler Attacked By Dog In Hair Salon
all that glitters replied to The Spotted Devil's topic in In The News
If the parents just kept the kid physically AWAY from the dog it would not have happened, but whether or not the dog approached the kid/parent(s) and encouraged contact I don't know. All I know is that a lot of parents suck big time at kid control. I work in a lolly shop and a lot of parents act like WUSSES when it comes to controlling their kids, they mess my displays up, carry stock around the store and suck on items, I get sooo angry and always tell the parents to watch their child please and stop them touching things. Why they can't just pick the kid up and tell it off is beyond me, some of them are like "ohhh johnny, no little one, come here please, come on please" touching the child tentatively, almost mouse-like, like HELLO just pick the damn annoying kid up and remove it from the situation!! -
Oh poor Mischa what a fright!! Let us know what the vets say!
