  1. I SO agree right now!!! If they were fenced in I would use them, and it would be so less risky!
  2. So very scary, all I can say is thank god he's okay! :D
  3. Thanks guys! Yeah Shyla doesn't destroy the house or overwork herself or anything, she will spend the first 5 or 10 minutes after we leave though sooking and whining and barking and howling a bit (whatever she feels like on the day LOL) which can result in a bit of trotting around before she settles. Hubby has the luxury of being able to take her to work so could take her and keep her upstairs in a pen with the a/c on, but my fear is after having 6 weeks of human company, will she develop worse anxiety when we leave her, or since she was brought up from a pup being alone a lot, will she 'remember' how to be alone still? I guess if hubby is downstairs doing work (and she is up) she will be separate from people on and off through the day, but can still be checked on. This isn't definite yet but I am preparing for the possibility of a cruciate tear And just seeing the "what ifs"
  4. If a dog needs to be crated/confined for 6-8 weeks say for a cruciate tear surgery, how do people do this when they work fulltime? If you have a dog that carries on a little when you leave (say for 5mins) and is moving around a lot upon your departure, that would be a problem wouldn't it? Do people take time off work to be with the dog the whole time so they can watch them?
  5. Ooo wow, creepy!! I hope the guy can get rid of it for you
  6. I'm in the same boat as you! http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=188096 Shyla didn't scream in pain though, and doesn't exhibit pain when I touch and pull her leg. She did when the vet probed her knee, though.
  7. Oh no when I saw "sad news" I sunk in my seat, that is sooo sad ;)
  8. Think I'll stick to my street for a while yet, I don't hear a peep out of neighboring dogs
  9. Looking the same today, more use of the leg (definitely better than the day we took her to the vet) but still holds weight off it slightly when standing sometimes (habit?) when walking though she uses it normally most of the time, hm! Still doing onleash toilet stops and she has been locked in our big familyroom/kitchen while we worked the last 2 days, probably wondered why her dog door was shut poor girl
  10. Well its definitely just lameness upon getting up from laying down, then the more she walks or starts to run (while i try to stop her!) it goes almost back to no lameness at all. The first few steps from laying down are limpy though. We have 2 more inflamm tablets (tomorrow and wed) She even scratches herself with that leg now, good sign? lol
  11. Well I cancelled the x ray cos she was barely limping last night and this morning she seemed heaps better! But this evening she is favouring it a little when getting up from a lay down Mum couldn't tell she even had a limp when she visited to give her a lunch pee break this arvo. Maybe the leg is just tired from today ;) She had her third anti inflammatory tablet at dinner
  12. Well she showed improvement when I took her on leash to toilet before but not getting my hopes up! If she is that improved in the morning I may cancel the xray for now, will see how we go. The main fear I have is not the cruciate op... but the fact that they almost always tear the other one once a cruciate is gone! Then u have to go through it all over again!
  13. We went to the vet and she shows pain when he manipulates the knee area BUT He said because she is so young it shouldn't be a cruciate, and if it is she'll be the youngest in the clinic to have a cruciate tear! He said if she was older than 2 or 3 he'd say it was the cruciate based on the way she reacted to her leg being manipulated. She has to have two anti inflammatory tablets today, and if she is not better in the morning she's off for x-rays and spending the day there tomorrow BUT if she shows less lameness it means it was just tissue damage and I can cancel the appointment! If it's her cruciate I am so unlucky she isn't even a year old And all that crate time after, how do you do that when you work fulltime! Blah.
  14. Poor Shyla spent the evening playing with Bindii's Hugo and Fletcher tonight and later in the evening I noticed her limping on her back left leg She doesn't seem phased and still was jumping on and off the couch and doing this and that, and when we touched and handled the leg she didn't do anything, but I am a bit worried!! Hopefully it's just a sprain or strain.. poor girl. She will put pressure on it but then often tries not to. She's resting now and mums really worrying it's something terrible like cruciate damage but I hope not!
  15. Incredible :D :D I hope Reg turns out OK!! The thought of a dog just lying next to me bleeding is so scary!
  16. I agree! I could NEVER own a dog without pet insurance for those MAJOR costs than run into the thousands.. no way!
  17. I had such a bad reaction to that stuff myself it made me sick as a dog both times I had it (then I figured out thats what made me so ill) - not that I am a dog, but yeah I have never felt so terrible in my life!
  18. My girl had to have an operation at 3 weeks of age because a vein was obstructing her esophagus so every time she ate the food wouldn't fit down her pipe! Obviously your pup hasen't got this problem if 90% of the time there is no regurgitating, but I would probably get a vet check just for peace of mind, and if they are worried they'll do a barium test - get the dog to ingest liquid with a special dye in it, then they will take numerous x-rays of the esophagus and stomach etc to see if there is a blockage or problem somewhere down the tract. This might be interesting too http://www.vetinfo.com/dvomit.html
  19. Ah shucks why do I get the dog that barks in protest when I leave  At least it's never longer than 5 minutes LOL I am adopting a greyhound!!
  20. OK I'll just say what I usually say "I'm going now be a good girl and be very quiet" in a non-exciting tone except I'll add in "good girl AND boy" and just stop with the treats I mean it's not like I hide the fact I'm leaving, I feed her the treats a couple metres from the door and she eats them while watching me slide the door shut, she usually protests by having a bark for a few minutes in the backyard after I've pulled out of the driveway (according to the neighbors) but then not a peep, so I think with another dog with her she'll have less to protest about in regards to me leaving
  21. Shyla tumbles with 1 of our cats like that, she's good with them.. until they start running cos then she has to chase
  22. Just wondering when you add a 2nd dog to the home, how do you go about leaving them? Do you just walk out and say bye? Currently with Shyla I have to give her yummy treats to distract her when we are leaving coz otherwise she would run straight to the back gate and sook a bit.. so I throw a little handful of bikkies over the kitchen floor, and give her a chew or a peanut butter treat filled kong and that keeps her happy and she will usually watch me close the door, but never runs up to it cos the treats distract her. With a 2nd dog I can't imagine leaving food/treats would be good incase they fought over it, so what do multiple dog owners do? Do you just walk out, cos having the company of each other they don't need to go to the gate cos they are not 'alone'?
  23. Just look at the suburb - there's your answer Yep totally right. The location where the trade occurred is right near my old work. I tell you night and day there are just druggos and bums hanging around there, even trading drugs on the escalators there, I am not surprised the situation with the pups took place. I pray they are found safe and well and that boy deserves PUNISHMENT *which I doubt he'll get cos they hardly punish anyone these days*
