  1. Even after a year and a half of owning Shyla I still am the one that suffers the anxiety when I have to leave her. She took a LONG time to relax about us coming and going, maybe that was my fault cos she could feel my energy? I think about it days in advance like "oh no she's alone 9hrs on tuesday". Blah!
  2. Yes, the shepherd bark... it does happen a lot
  3. My girl has been going to work with hubby 3 days a week but next month he will no longer have that job so she won't be able to. I'm shifting my roster around all for HER and working weekends and having Mondays and Wednesdays off (gee the things we do for dogs) and starting late on Friday.. so she will be home Tuesdays and Thursdays for 9hours and Friday for 5hours, and I am ALREADY worrying I literally couldn't have her alone 9hrs 5 days straight every week cos I'm such a sucker LOL. 2 days sends me worrying in advance. .... she does sleep all day though, indoors, with the radio on and 3 couches, 2 soft beds and lots of toys!
  4. Ah... . not everyone.. Yes.... not everyone As applies to all breeds! I recommend Shepherd if you are prepared to put in the hard yards in training the puppy right and being firm but calm and consistant. Also need to be prepared to exercise the dog a lot and continue training as the puppy grows, you may end up with a very high energy shepherd! They are incredibly smart and as a result need a lot of stimulation. My mum has a golden, she is VERY different as in she is more laid back, happy to just sit there wagging her tail and just wants a pat. She didn't even really get any solid training and was just a good dog. They are all different though, regardless of breed
  5. Hope your pom is Ok, what a fright I can only just begin to imagine!! I only have one dog but would imagine when you have a multi dog household, issues between the pack would be such a hassle and constant worry. I hope u find a good behaviorist and see whats going on
  6. Loooove the photos of Winnie girl!!!! I have seem the beached whale position in person its very funny and cute Now I want a photo shoot for Shyla! Stunning pics you can keep forever The squirrel is hilariously cute
  7. I TOTALLY wonder this also!!!!! Shyla can no longer go to work with hubby in a month cos of job changing, and I'll shift my roster around so I have 2 weekdays off a week which means she'll be home 2 'whole' days a week (9hrs each) and a 5hour 'half' day. I'm already worrying about it (stupid I know) I am so the one with anxiety. I was wondering if 5hours FEELS like 9hrs to a dog seeing as they can't read a clock? I know she sleeps all day but still ....
  8. You are quite within your rights to protect yourself and your dog. No off lead dog, even in an offlead area, has the right to charge at a person or another dog. Even in offlead areas they should be under "effective control" and that means they should be kept way from any other dogs and people unless specifically invited to socialise with another dog. An offlead dog running at an onlead dog is NEVER acceptable. Personally I carry a short stock whip and find that cracking the whip deters most dogs before they get anywhere near mine. If they do get close enough they get hit with the whip. I did have to train my dogs to stand still while I crack a whip over their heads though so they don't try to get away from it. I wish it was legal to carry a stun gun because that would be better protection. Thanks! Good to know. I agree on the stun gun. Wish we could use them. I'll get a crop from my sister
  9. If you carry a riding crop and hit a dog that charges at yours or try to shoo it with it can the owner get you in trouble for abusing their dog?
  10. Omg thats so sad They don't deserve a dog at all, dogs are too special to be owned by careless people like that
  11. Yep Shy's really did grow hair back quicker than I expected! I think it looks worse before it gets better too. She never got it again, either *phew*
  12. Shyla walks beside me or in front of me but the moment she gets too pull-y I make her heel beside me again. On normal walks she hardly ever pulls though, it's a real pleasure walking her these days. If people or dogs are coming near us I bring her back into heel/beside me which she is fine with. She actually prances along beautifully when others are approaching which is better than her pulling towards them!
  13. Welcome back Jed, 1 month on and you have returned, it's fantastic to see your profile posting again!!!!! I wish you strength and I am so sorry for the loss of your babies
  14. Hi Rommi n Lewis Yeah, I know it's really nasty stuff, but because Lottie is an Australian Shepherd, she can't have Ivermectin or any related products - she has a localised patch of Demodex on her face which we were hoping to go away by itself (immune system), but it just seems to be getting bigger - i've been washing it with pyrohex and malasab, and also giving her milbimycin, but it just doesn't seem to be helping - It was suggested that I try some diluted and dab it only on her spot on her face... I just really really don't want this to become generalised!!! Yep Shyla had that exact!! problem a patch of demodex on her muzzle which started to look quite bare. I was given the demadex wash and used it twice but it stank sooo much I gave up on it and her hair grew back in about a month, I think it was just the type of demodex that comes when a dog is under 1yo and goes away with age (happens when their immune systems get a bit out of whack as a puppy but then they get stronger and fight it off themselves) I have some of the stuff here but I am in Melb! I think though that it's probably just something that will clear up on it's own Edited to add pic (she was about 7mths old? i think)
  15. My girl got her booster the other day and I swear it's made her itchy again
  16. Oh I want to watch I wonder when exactly it's on. I want this pathetic excuse of a human to get what he deserves
  17. I love my breeders and talk to them regulary, as well as attending shows so that I am able to catch up with them and their dogs and they get to see Shyla. The wife in particular has a very close bond to Shyla because of how she had major surgery at 3 weeks of age and she had to help her through recovery and slept on the couch next to her for 4 weeks monitoring her and tending to her she was a big job. The fact that they decided to go ahead with the surgery and give that little pup a chance at life is amazing I reckon, and shows how genuine they really are. I enjoy talking to them often and seeing them

  19. If the dog has a habit of watchdog barking at any noise how will toys (whether it be a few or a hundred) stop this?
  20. I can't take Shyla with me because I manage a chocolate shop but hubby takes her to work 3 days a week!! It's bliss for me and a lot less stressful cos I know she's got company. She goes to work on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays, and I am home Wednesdays and I start work late on Fridays. Hubby is home weekends. So she's only really alone 5 hours on a friday and the odd evening for a few hours if we go out for dinner which is only a few times a month
  21. HAPPY BIRTHDAYY!!!!! All the best from Shelle and Shyla
  22. It's good to come on a forum and have a laugh! Much better than negativity
