Uncontrollable Urge To Pee. Stops On Vomit
Muttaburra replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hmmm, -scratches chin- hmmm and hmmm. -goes off to teach grandma how to suck eggs-. All I can think of now is zoiboys suggestion of substituting rice - maybe the no clagging long grain. A pinch of Iodised Salt might do instead of the kelp. Maybe cut out the carrots too. Have you tried giving 3 or 4 small meals instead of breakfast and dinner? Glad you know about placing the hand around. A bit of my own story here, when Maxi gets hotspots on his little pink furless tummy (plant allergy-Plumbago) I stroke it very lightly with my fingertips and sometimes they just dissapear before my eyes. Amazing, havn't had the blistering for a long time. -

Hi Erny, have been checking into this thread regularly to see how your going with Kal. Sorry to hear that there has been no identification of the malady. Zoiboys posts are very interesting. I'm not sure what you feed Kal but all sorts of cereal is thrown in to many prepartations these days, as well as skim milk (if lactose intolerance is also involved). Either that or there could be bowel inflammation for other reasons. My latest thoughts were along the lines of Diabeties, but I am guessing this had been tested for already. The liver and gall bladder - (do dogs have a gall bladder?) again, I am thinking the ultrasound would pick up anything unusual there. Has the alimentary canal been checked as well (stool samples etc)? You might be able to locate an area involved by placing your hand flat, palm down, over various parts of her body, feeling for a noticable increase in temperature over one of the organs or the gut. Also, acupuncture might be worth looking into. If it cannot provide a cure, it can reduce nausea and stimulate various organs etc. Hope something good comes along to help you and Kal soon. -
Please Help Very Sick
Muttaburra replied to Owned by Shelties's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Don't know much about it, but could it be Corona Virus? He must be kept hydrated until they can find the problem. So sad to hear of the pup being so sick. Wishing all the best for recovery. -
101 Uses For Apple Cider Vinegar
Muttaburra replied to caffiend42's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Wow, didn't know it was that good. Bought a bottle a while ago but havn't opened it yet. Have an old book on "The Miracle of Garlic and Vinegar", must have another read. Thanks for this great info. -
Wishing you all the best for your dog's recovery, seems you've been dealt a tough hand with this one, just to let you know you're in my thoughts and sending special good vibes.

So sorry to hear of your loss, I don't come here often but sometimes a name I know pops up, then I drop in. She was such a beautiful dog and looks like she had a happy life with you. :D
-
So sorry for your loss Gemibabe, I followed a bit of it in the Health section. Mia sounds like she was a beautiful dog and all the better for having such a caring and loving owner as yourself. :D

Christy lei, so sorry for your loss What a beautiful dedication you wrote, Brodie was a very special dog who deserved the wonderful life you gave her in the time she had with you. Some things are lent to us for just a short time from God. :D

What a shame to hear about your dog. At her age there could be many causes that I'm sure your vet will investigate for you. One of them can be Adrenal imbalance due to a number of different abnormalities, and other causes such as infections. Once you know the cause and if it is treatable, then plan of management can be done. Please keep us updated on her progress and hope it is all better soon.

I Still Can't Decide When.......
Muttaburra replied to Joey Rocks My World's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sorry to hear about Jenna. She looks like such a lovely dog. I went through it all with an 8yo cat with cardiomyopathy - heart failure. One day, when waiting in the vet, it suddenly struck me. Looking at all the other animals, full of life and vigour, then looking at my poor cat being so ill and low in spirits, not much quality of life anymore. This might be time to try and let go a bit and lean on your husband. Trust him that he can see things a bit more objectively than you. Perhaps sit down together and make a bit of a plan. Whilst it is not "urgent" it would be good to be mindful of the best way you can care for her when her time has come to say goodbye. -

OMG does this mean Dougie is a she too !! I knew as soon as I'd written it that Murphy's law and the law of averages acting in tandem would by default mean the Erny was a she. ;) -

When I die I wanna come back as Erny's dog, (not the one he's go now). Erny you do sound like a very kind dog carer. -
So sorry that you had to say goodbye to your lovely Brodie today. She had a great life with you and was loved and cared for.

Better to leave the anal glands alone. If there is a problem then have checked with the vet. It is not recommended to repeatedly drain them.

Further, if your dog is female, 12 and desexed, it's not unusual for incontinence to start to occur at this age. It is due to an overall weakening of the muscles in the body to do with aging and also lack of hormones in the female dog. There is a lot of success treating this with hormone therapy, just the right amount needs to be given, usually less than the contraceptive dose, this increases muscle tone in the pelvic region. -

That's cool Erny, it's alway interesting to get to the bottom of these things, never know when one of my dogs might get the same. Well as you know Eskimos have dozens of words to describe snow With some nursing training and around 4 years nursing experience I have learned that nurses, mums, and animal carers have lots of words for poo poos. Well I have to say I don't know. It won't do any harm to give her a good dose of Slippery Elm Bark, and with mine I always add some processed bran to their dinners, you know the little wriggly ones, not so much for food value, but to keep a consistent consistency, you know what I mean. It's very gentle and adds a bit of basic bulk with out being too laxitive or binding. Perhaps just put her on chicken and light food for a couple of days. Monitor the water drinking and all things coming out the other ends. -

Sounds like constipation or undigested bones in stomach. Vomiting is just the grass tickling which is what dogs eat to help them evacuate the stomach and also help bowel movement. You say she is not blocked, but sometimes a hard stool can stay lodged and other stuff gets pushed out loosly around it, so I would still not discount something in the gut. Has she had a lot of bones lately? -
Hi, sorry to hear your dog is unwell. I had a similar experience to yours with an old cat. it turned out to be heart failure. Because your dog is old it might be prudent to rule this out by having a chest X-Ray, (to see if the heart is enlarged), this would also indicate whether there was a chest infection or pneumonia. I hope it is not either of these things, but you can get some treatment for it.

This is just so sad for you, she was a very darling little pup. You did so much for her to make her life better and it is a very sad loss, you both deserved better.
-
Peibes so sorry for your losses, they look happy in the pictures. It all seems so sudden, but dogs have relatively short lives and you helped them through the hard times.

With kind regards on this day.

Maxi's paws never toughened. We did 20 minute walks along cement footpaths, and all sorts of other walks, it didn't seem to help. When the bindies were really bad along some unpaved paths he would walk along the edge of the cement gutter to avoid them.
-
Bindies, rotten things. They bother Maxi, JRT. Brave little trooper, he runs along at his usual speed on 3 legs, holding one paw up. It takes a while after its removed for him to realise and put the paw down again. I am supposing that the smaller dogs have thinner skin on their paws?

I read somewhere that Revolution was a treatment for Sarcoptic mange mites, has anyone tried it?.
