  1. Just get a gander at these 2! I never thought I'd see the day. Since being introduced Jasmine and Gypsy have become quiet good friends. The other morning I found them both up under the cot, sleeping. Because Gypz is an older girl and has difficulty getting up on the bed now, sweet Jasmine choses to stay with her on the lounge or like the other morning, under the cot, I think this is terribly sweet of her. Jasmine plays now and is a totally different girl. She races around, daring you to chase her. :p She still hasnt barked, I seriously think they took her voice box out she is an attention freak! always rubbing up against you for a pat, rolling over on her belly or nudging your hand to say c'mon here I am, PAT ME! :D She loves her walks and poops in the same place everytime she is so soft and gentle on the lead, a dream to walk. Were very happy with her and I am sure it goes both ways, she seems to of settled very well and seems very happy with us. We love her dearly. ;)
  2. As you can see Jasmine & Gypsy have become quiet the mates. I couldnt believe it when they started sleeping next to eachother on the lounge. She still hasnt barked although came close the other day, I was playing with the baby jumping around and she went crazy playing, running around the house getting down on her 2 front paws, she almost barked, she came soooo close. Today I caught her with one of Jacks toys in her mouth, I had to look twice, Jasmine with a toy???? she has come a long way. Bailey was giggling his head off today because he had the little silver bone on her collar, in his hands and her hair was tickling his face. She loves snuggles from the kids and follows Jack around everywhere like a shadow. I am surprised Gypz took to her so well, she's funny with other dogs, some she likes, others she doesnt, she is the Queen here. The leader of the Pack.
  3. The initial meeting, as you can see Jasmine is VERY submissive, there was no problems Around around a circle like a teddy bear - the bum sniffing chase and at the end of the night here they are..... :D There hasnt been any probs to date they are getting along just fine. I have to say I am very pleased with both Gypsy and Jasmines progress tonight.
  4. Jasmine has been here 3 weeks tommorow. She is doing great. I introduced her to my girl, her majesty Gypsy and couldnt believe it! they are fine. They sniffed eachother for a little bit, Gyps being the dominant one she is, gave her a couple of dirty looks but because Jaz is so submissive, she just turned away and gypz thought hmmmm this is good, she isnt a challenge or threat to me. Atm, Jaz is sleeping next to bubs and Gypz is at my feet. there are no issues at all. So I guess Jasmine is here to stay - for good..... some pics of their first meeting to come later - when I get a spare minute or 2. Peak hour here atm,
  5. Jasmine is doing great! She has been here almost 3 weeks and has improved so much since the first day she arrived. She is a happier, more confident girl. She was so excited tonight before her walk, she ran about so happy, she even plays now. There is still work to do yet but I am so glad she is getting some spirit back. Makes it all so worth it. Her and Jack still are still the best of mates. I havent introduced her to my pack yet I will soon though Atm she is on the loungeroom floor munching on a bone. Usually they arent allowed to eat on the loungeroom floor, but she is She would never do that before, previously she'd stand at her bowl waiting for the go ahead to eat, now she helps herself and even feels confident enough to move the food, knowing she wont get into any trouble. She is such a softy....... we love her so, she is no trouble whatsover. And she stiiiiiiillllllll hasnt barked :p Is it common for people to have their voice box removed???? I think I heard of this horrible practise years ago but cannot comprehend how anyone could do it. Surely she would of barked now, after almost 3 weeks????? I hope they didnt do that to her, poor darling but nothing would surprise me these days. She loves the sun. One of her favourite pastimes when we are outside, sun baking oh and she sooo loves to roll on the grass, makes me think she didnt see much of it before????? who knows. We were outside today in the garden and because I hosed, (my fault) bee's came from everywhere :D I had to rush Jack inside and in the process forgot poor Jasmine. 10-15 mins later I realised she wasnt at my feet and thought I wonder where she is? as she likes to camp on the bunk bed and nap sometimes. As I went to check, I spotted her sprawled out on the front porch, fast asleep. ;) Poor girl must of been waiting to come back inside, gave up and went to sleep. I opened the door and she rushed in wagging. I have a fence/gate at the front so she wasnt in danger of wondering off, though if she was that way inclined she could of, no problem. But she is a sweety, she knows where her home is..... The following pics taken tonight Jack spots a moth, Jasmine thinks its funny The leg lifts at the slightest touch "Ahhh C'mon" she's thinking "Havent you seen a moth before?".... :p And here is a pic I sneaked around the corner. She had chicken frames for dinner, but snacking on a bone now.... and she always has a bowl of kibble on offer.
  6. Jasmine enjoying some attention earlier today and getting a hug :D and Jack left her a little bit of ice cream cake a little treat here and there wont hurt....
  7. Hi all, Jasmine is happy & well. She pigged out on chicken wings today She still hasnt barked, I suppose I shouldnt be complaining. But still I would love to hear her, out of curiositys sake more than anything. When I took her outside tonight for toilies, she heard something (a twig dropped from the tree as it was so windy) her ears pricked and I thought here we go, she is going to bark, I waited and waited, she stood there like a statue with her ears pricked but no bark.... I cant believe she has been here 2 weeks already gee that time has gone by so fast. In the mornings she greets us all with the biggest wags now. she had a game with a bug of some sort in the garden today, I love it when her ears prick, she looks so cute and trust me not to have the camera on me - a first.... She sat on my lap for ages tonight lapping up pats and as soon as I 'd stop the nose would nudge me to start again - she loves affection. Poor girl, probably hasnt had much of it in her life, the only hand she's prob felt is one smacking her. Not anymore . And she isnt shy when meeting visitors, she is actually quiet forward. She'll go up to them wagging happily. Anything for a pat I guess..... I am still in shock at how obedient she is off the lead in the garden, she comes straight to you when called and drops in a sit position at your feet, gazing up at you, she doesnt move until you do, she is very clever, If I take 3 steps and stop, she does the same. If I walk to the other side of the yard, she is right beside me, and stops when I do. Its incredible. She doesnt seem interested in a ball, or any toys for that matter, just human company.
  8. Yes Pheonix found his home some months ago now, doing well last I heard, they loved him at first sight. They were a young family, seemed very decent people, they also have another dog who Pheonix apparently loves and vice versa. ;) I seem to be attracted to the Kelpie and Border x's dont I? (and ofcoarse huskies ) But dont worry I have bought everything home from a chihuahua x pug to a German Shep, even a mallie :D I am not fussed by breed, so long as they have a nice nature and are in genuine need..... And I get updates often from the dogs I have adopted out and all are very pleased with their new K9 additions. Believe it or not the mallie girl went to a paraplegic man and his parents and they love her to death, he was looking for a mallie for some time and when he saw her ad fell in love with her and knew she was the one. Apparently he cried when he saw her ad which I thought was sooo sweet. They absolutely cherish her, likewise for Dylan a husky boy who was surrended with 2 smaller dogs, one of whom was adopted the other PTS, Dylan was almost PTS too ;) Dylan (Previously Demon) went to a beautiful family and even has a little doggy friend. Oh then there was Buffy (now Sally ) a staffy female listed as 6-12mths but actually 2 yrs! she went to an older couple in the Blue Mtns, they have a small hobby farm with sheep and Sally is fine, they often ring just to chat and rave on about her. They adore her. The list goes on. Maybe I should write a book Oh and Pheonix, is now named Jet.
  9. Not sure yet as I am keeping her seperated for the first few weeks. They should be fine. Gypsy my oldest girl is the pack leader, if she accepts her the others will follow suit. So here's hoping. Sammy has seen her from a distance (collie x ret), and seems quiet interested to meet her, she stands there wagging looking at him and he wags too. So fingers crossed. When they are ready I will intoduce them one on one with her and see how they go, I cant see any real problems arising, so long as Gypz approves
  10. Jack & Jasmine at the front today - Jaz cant wait to go for a walk..... Dreaming of that much awaited walk to the park Resting quietly on the grass - still in deep thought, poor girl love to know whats going through that head Standing up on my legs for a pat She has such a beautiful, but sad face Its clear to see she has been abused at some point in her life, she looks so fearful of being hurt
  11. One last pic for the night, a very tired Jack not far off bed and his little fury friend on the lounge. If Jacks on the floor, she is, if he is on the lounge, she is, if he is in bed, she is.......
  12. I am happy to say Jasmine is making great progress. She has been here just over a week and is already gaining confidence. When I gave her her dinner today she went straight to the bowl, and for the first time had no hesitation, no fear, no looking over her shoulder waiting nervously for approval to eat! ;) She lets me know shen she has to go toilies, she comes up paws my leg gently and runs to the door, or she will just sit at the door waiting, letting me know its time I let her out, she does her business, and runs back in happy as Larry tail going a hundred mile an hour. She is cowering less when we approach her for a pat, she isnt jumping out of her skin at the slightest sudden noises anymore.... Its amazing what a little time and TLC can do. She still has a way to go but she is doing very well. She still has NOT barked???? Poor girl probably got the crap beat out of her for barking, its sad to think she has a voice in there but is too scared to use it. She will though, in time. I would love to hear it. Atm she is on the lounge room floor with the kids, Jack is playing cars and she likes to be close..... Dogs are Kid proof when they leave here Not that she is leaving..... Jack using Jasmine as part of his game, he drove his matchbox car up her back - she lapped it up Back to playing cars while Jasmine goes back to sleep
  13. Thank you for your kind words. Dogs have bought such happiness and joy to me over the years, I couldnt imagine a life without them. ;)
  14. Yeah when I lived in Manidra (40mins out of Orange) these dust storms were pretty common but I have never seen it in Sydney!! pretty scary. And yes she did have that "No no it wasnt me - I didnt do it face". She is fine. She can sleep on it, should of seen her last night snuggled in Jacks tent when the storm was going on. She was trembling literally. Chief the husky went berko to get out. He has never been so afraid of a storm as he was last night. I had to sit out there with him in his kennel the umbrella broke on the way out I was saturated, covered from head to toe in mud, twigs in my hair I felt and looked as though I had just come off an epsiode of survivor. It was hectic out there, the lightning was nice to watch but Poor Chief. Then because he was pacing in and out of the kennel his blankets were all wet so I had to change them all. OMG what a night. I can look back and laugh now.
  15. Found Jasmine on Jacks lounge a little while ago The back yard early this morning...off topic I know - but thought I would share it
  16. Yes and with shedding season the hair is endless. Honestly off Chief alone in the past 3 weeks I have gathered at least a garbage bag FULL of hair, I dont think he has ever been brushed in his life, poor fella. But if you keep them groomed/brushed regulary it isnt too bad. I give them a good brush at least once a fortnight and baths once a mth in the cooler seasons, and every weekend in Summer - plus they have their clams pools to bathe in, and get regular hose downs. And I thought about recycling the hair years ago, maybe make cushion covers or something, stuff them with fur and use them for dog beds - its so soft and warm... :dancingelephant: now that's what I call recycling Oh and there are several other pets here including rosellas, a Rainbow Lorrie (hit by a car in 2005 bought him home, fixed him up) and he is still here- he is the biggest healthiest lorry people have seen. I did try and let him go free as he WAS a wild bird, but by the time his wings healed he was too plump and couldnt take off to fly. There is also a taking budgie, a tame cockatiel and a guinea-pig. Plus my 2 beautiful human babies. Maybe I should put a sign at the front "Welcome to the funny farm"....
  17. ..."the other 8".... My goodness. Where do you put them all??? I am lucky to have a huge backyard PLUS 2 runs either side of the house Here are some pics of the other furkids This is Gypsy - she is 10 yrs old, this pic was taken 28th Aug on her 10th Birthday - I have had her since she was a junior, came to me as a stray This is JJ and Zeuss. JJ is Gypsys 8 yr old daughter - Gypsy had one litter when she was 2 yrs old I kept all 3 babies as I couldnt bear to part with them. Two have since passed away. Claude at 6yrs suddenly and Cassie at 7 yrs of cancer This is Blacky and Whitey (original I know ) they are 5 yrs old This is Chief. He came from Blacktown Pound a mess. All skin and bones, matted coat stained in urine. He has scrubbed up pretty well, still work to do though. Lovely boy - will be re homing him once I feel he is ready. He was over due at the Pound and had nothing, I remember when they rang me it was like I was being read my rights They said "So Rachel you are willing to take this dog even if he has parvo, otherwise he will be taken to the vet and euthanazed this morning?". (He would of been PTS that morning along with the others on the list but because I had my name on him....) I knew it wasnt parvo, he had it for 2 weeks and wasnt deteriorating, it was simply a case of his body NOT agreeing with the Pound tucker. He was fine. Very gentle boy, great with other dogs too. This is Narla. She is a 5yr old Sibe from Blacktown Pound also. She likes to hide in her kennel as pictured and HOGS it when the other dogs try and get in. Ok last but least, Sammy. A 5 yr old male Collie x Retriever. He is divine, a ball fanatic and a real gentle man. He was surrended to me by his owners after we found him wondering in the rain, thin, cold and hungry. When I finally managed to find the owner some weeks later, Sammy ran with his tail between his legs at the sight of her, he was terrified. I knew he would not be leaving. She says "Oh he looks so happy and comfortable here", (dropping hints) I said look if you dont want him I will take him but I need his paperwork transferred over, she happily agreed and left him here, that was a year ago. Sammy will be re homed but ONLY when the right family comes along. Oh and afcoarse there is - Jasmine :D the newest addition.
  18. After a bath today - she had one the day she came home but because its so hot and the other 8 dogs had a bath, I couldnt leave her out - so she had another, plus its so hot here today - will cool her down a bit. "C'mon" Jack says "Lets go out to the garden" leading Jasmine out Out in the fresh air rolling around after her bath Still rolling around........ SMILE -
  19. Jack letting Jasmine inside after an adventure in the garden Jasmine wagging and waiting for a treat ;) Getting a scratch
  20. Jasmine taken tonight she WAS napping on the single bed. She loves to lay with her back legs flattened out She is slooooowly coming out of her shell, but it'll be a long road. A lady was walking by this morning when we were out the front in the garden and she spotted Jasmine. (never seen this woman in my life) she stopped to chat and told me about her dog being on antibiotics atm for an ear infection, she loved Jasmine and commented how timid she is, though she did go to the lady for a pat, so shes making some progress The lady felt so sorry for her and commented that she must of been wacked/roused on for everything. I agree. Even before she eats she gives these big sad eyes as if to say is it ok to eat now? I always give her a nod of the head, look away and pretend to be doing something else and then she'll eat her dinner. She adores attention and is getting plenty of it. I think it will take her a good while to gain confidence, but she is getting better by the day.
  21. Jasmine is doing great. I discovered something about her today - she is sh*t scared of storms - could explain how she ended up the pound????. I have to say many of the dogs I have bought home from the Pound are afraid of storms. Poor girl she followed me every where sitting at my feet cowering. I gave her cuddles and tried to assure she was fine and was safe. Even Jack went to the bathroom and returned with a towel to wrap around her and comfort her The storm lasted about half hr or so, when the OH arrived from the shops says "There is a Lab wondering on the road, lost in traffic". So off I went in search of this dog. At first I didnt find him but I went around a big block and when I returned he was running along the railway track side of the road which was busy and wet from rain. I thought 'Oh no', the dog went to cross the road right infront of a car which came to a screeching halt, so did my heart for a second. ;) I jumped out of the car and onto the middle of the road to signal cars to stop. I had a lead in my hand and he came straight away wagging. He had a bald patch on his leg so had recently had an op. (not desexing he was already desexed I noted) A lovely boy. He jumped straight into the car. I had a good idea where he came from. Three years ago only weeks before the birth of my Son I found a Lab coming home from work, I walked the streets heavily preg and in the heat hoping he'd sniff his way home. As I walked along a car pulled up and it was this dogs owner - he was soooo grateful. Anyways with Lab boy safely in the car I drove straight to this house today and yes it was there dog!!! Oh was I relieved!!! as were the owners and the man remembered me too.... Talk about a small world eh? Jasmine is fast asleep curled up in the bunk bed atm. Snug as a bug in a rug....
  22. Heres some pics of todays adventures Morning cuddles Isnt she just georgeous. I say she is 50/50 mix Kelpie x Border Collie as you can see characteristics of both Rolling in the grass - she loves laying in the sun too Ahhhh belly rubs, warm sun and soft grass...... this is the life Keeping an eye on Jack (whose out of sight in the garden)
  23. Here is Jasmine sneeking into the kids makeshift cubby house taken tonight She doesnt need a lead when she is in the front garden, she doesnt attempt to jump the small fence, she just follows like a shadow. When I stop, she stops and sits at my feet. If I start to run she runs, and again as soon as I come to a stop - she does too and just sits there. She is VERY obedient. Still havent heard her bark but she is very alert, if she hears the front gate open she'll run to the front door ears pricked. My Mum dropped in today and met her. Mum had just been to the shops and had a roast chicken in her bag. She opened it up and ripped most of the meat off and gave it to Jasmine - Jaz loved it. Ol' Mum. She is good hearted like that. She actually has a GSD from Blacktown Pound, one of my rescues from back in Feb OMG that dog and the other resident dog a dingo x greyhound (also a rescue of mine from 9 yrs back, she was going to be shot ) live like king and queen, they are fed the best cuts of steaks, chicken even prawns.... Mum spares no expense. Anyways Jasmine loooooved meeting My Mum and vice versa.
  24. No. I will check tomm. I THINK she has a name but not 100% sure. And you know the saddest thing, I felt dreadful the day I picked Jasmine up. Her kennel mate fought so hard to come too it broke my heart. She tried to slip through the gate with Jasmine. ;) I felt sooooo guilty. As they say for the one you take another is left behind - thats exactly how I felt for this girl. :D It was like "Why cant I come to? Why arent I good enough?" Poor girl. And she is JUST as sweet as Jasmine, trust me she is adorable, so loving, gentle and soft. I will advise tommorow if she is safe or not. I hate to think what happened to that girls puppies. Only she would know, probably why she is so heartbroken and sad. Imagine going through pregnancy, feeling the little buggers growing and moving inside of you, then through birth ONLY to have them taken away from you - how dreadful that would be....
