Rip Today For The Loss Of Another Service Dog Kia In Afghanistan
k9angel replied to nickojoy's topic in In The News
R.I.P. to these brave men & Herbie, the detection dog. -
I will go through my wardrobe tonight and see what I can dog out. I meant to write dig out but typed dog out instead, how fitting..... It was so funny a couple mths back, one of my own huskies was a little off colour. It was the middle of the night and he seemed to be acting odd (It wasnt an emergency) but I dug out a pink nike shirt from the wardrobe. He looked so funny but it stopped him shivering. With smaller shirts you dont have to make much alteration, if any, at all. Oh maybe around the private parts depending how long the t shirt is.

I have heard that he was a bit of an a**h***. Many years ago an ex boyfriend of mine told me he had met Don in person and he was the most rude & arrogant man.

5437 From Blacktown Pound - See Pics Of Her Safe

I love this pic of Jasmine as she waits patiently for a chip. This pic sums her up, she is a gentle and well mannered girl and likes to be close. (taken this arvo) Luki has the toy - around around in circles we go (taken today) Jasmine often gets a check up from Jack. He gets the torch and searches her belly for ouchies. (This was taken about a week and a half back) Taken a while ago - I may of uploaded this one in an earlier post?? Taken about a month and a hlf ago - OH calls me to the loungeroom and says "Look what he's doing?" this is the first examination we noticed Jack giving Jasmine. She gets one or two a week, sometimes more. This one must of been taken months back, as Bailey (baby) has been out of the rocker chair for a while now. (Again I may of posted earlier) -

JUst a little update on our Jasmine girl. She has been here almost 8 months now. Gee time flies. As some of you may of read, Bobby Dazzler found a home on the weekend and has since moved on leaving Jasmine feeling sad and a little lost without her buddy. I have to say having Bob around really helped to bring JAsmine out of her shell more. He was such a happy boy, always cheerful and always liking to play. He oozed with confidence and I am glad to say much of it rubbed off onto JAsmine and has made her alot more confident too now. Anyways today I had Luki out most of the day and he and Jasmine got on really well. She actually played with him. It seemed to cheer her up somewhat and probably took her mind off Bobby for a little while at least. She is ok, just fretting a little. Those 2 were joined at the hip. Here are some pics of her taken today and in the past weeks... Luki waits patiently for Jack to acidently drop a chip Jasmine goes one better and joins Jack on the lounge Couple more to come - flickr is playing games again -
Yeah he wasnt too keen on keeping still for the shot. ;) He wanted to play, you can see the cheeky streak in his eyes. He has massive legs. His paws would be the size of my fists, probably bigger. Thank Dog he has a nice nature. I have tested him through the fence with other dogs and he appears fine. He wants to play with them. Him and Jasmine (our Jasmine, not husky Jasmine) were having a good ol' game through the fence yesterday. They would run up face to face, get down on their front legs, bums in the air then take off playing zoomies. ;) He also seems to like little Luki. I would really love to know the story behind Logan. Was he found by someone and left tied up? did his owners do it? I would love to know the truth behind Logan for he has proved to be a gentleman in every way. I cannot speak highly enough of him and I will be sad when its time for him to find a new home, but happy knowing he got the second chance he was so close to missing out on.

Finally got around to getting some pics of Logan today. I bought him inside while OH took the 2 little ones to Nanna's for a visit. Logan was well behaved inside. Only pee'd once, on the tiles near the back door. Not on the furniture which was good. He was used of the tele so I dare say he has spent alot of time inside in his old home. He also jumped up on the bed and gave a look as if to say 'Ah a bed - that feels good'. I gave him a brushing over as he has some undercoat near his back end that I am slowly getting out as I go along. Anyways here are some pics from today Testing the lounge He is need of another bath - his face is snow white after a bath - doesnt stay snow white for long though Oh and dont mind the floor, it was covered in dog fur from his brush. I usually do it outside but today he was allowed in for a brush. It has since been vacummed. Sussing out the pile of hair that has been brushed from him. *Note he is carrying a toy around - big baby he is Isnt he a stunner? he has the most gorgeous husky trot. Spots Mickey the budgie. Me and my mate LOgan - I had to take this myself as I was home alone.

I could never give up on my old girl. I remember the vet saying (at the time) that if she didnt begin to use her legs herself she could have an op that was going to cost in excess of $6,000. I didnt have that kind of money laying around but I was willing and prepared to take a loan if I had to. It was a very risky op though, and there was a chance more damage than good could of been done. Thankfully it didnt come to that. I have to take extra special care of her though. I have to trim the hair of her paws so she gets better grip with her paw pads and doesnt slip. When it rains I walk her down the downs and back inside, the steps are tiled as is the kitchen. In September last year, 7 mths after the inital injury, she came bolting in through the back door, and slipped. She was paralysed for a minute or so and then recovered. My heart stopped and I was so worried that she wouldnt walk again. Then the other day she was mucking around with the dogs out the back. I always have to yell to her to "Settle down Gypsy" so she doesnt over do it, but the other day she took it a little far thinking she was a puppy and when I went to bring her in, she was dragging her back right paw. Again my heart stopped. I yelled to the OH to open the door and I carried her inside to the loungeroom. Throughout the night she would occassionally drag her paw, but by morning she was fine again. Poor old bugger has to have supervised playtime. But it's for her own good in the long run. I cherish everyday I get with her after she had that accident. When I first found her paralysed I thought "this is it". I expected to have to give her her wings. But after the vet did the xray and told me the prognosis, which was basically a game of wait and see, I knew there was hope. As slight as it was I hung on to it and never gave up. And Thank Dog I didnt. :D Atm she is staring at me smiling on the lounge, as if she knows I am typing about her.

Yes he is gaining weight nicely. I will I will get the camera out.

An update on Logan. Where do I start? Logan has been here only a few weeks but I have really fallen in love with this boy. He is the most well behaved, well mannered and well adjusted dog you could ask for. A true gem in every way. I have trained him to sit at the street corner before he crosses (when were out walking) and also to sit on command when were out walking. He does so on first call. He is extremely intelligent. (He already knew sit, shake and stay on arrival) He loves to play fetch, its one of his favourite games. He brings it straight back and drops it ready for round 2. I am almost certain he was a house dog before, or was allowed inside alot of the time, especially when it rains. Although he has a huge kennel to himself when it rains he sits under the window and cries so sadly & softly. I feel terrible. I almost bought him in last time it rained. He seems fine with other dogs, although not tested properly yet, he shows no signs of aggression through the gate and appears to want to play. He is particulary fond of little Luki. If I could I would keep this boy. He is so nice and he reminds me of my Claudie boy who died in 2007. Not in the colouring or build, but his nature. Claude was my baby and i cannot tell you how devastated I was when he died so suddenly. Logan who would of been born around the time my boy died, has the same peircing blue eyes as Claude had. When Claude would get excited his pupils would dilate to almost nothing, Logans does the same. When Logan meets new people he does this loud sniffing sound through his nose. He sounds like a horse grunting Its weird. But he hasnt showed any signs of being aggressive at all. I will try and get some new pics tommorow.

Luki is going great. He is no longer little Luki anymore. He is growing so big, so fast. He has gained weight well and is a gorgeous little boy. He has such a lovely nature. He spends a great deal of time with Skye and Storm and is great friends with them. He also spends a fair deal of time with my old girl Gypsy who is teaching him right from wrong and loving every minute playing with him. Jack loves him too. But he loves all dogs. On Sunday morning when he got up he says to me "Mummy we going to the pound today?" He went on and on about it. Later in the day when I came home from the shops he looks all dissapointed as I come in the door without a dog. He says to me "Mummy wheres' new puppy?". Its been a while since weve had any new arrivals due to the fact there are still so many waiting for homes here. I explained to him, Mummy has to find these ones homes first. I am not sure if he understood 100% but he was ok after that and didnt mention the pound again, until the afternoon when he pestered again. Funny little bugger. Luki on arrival - a sick little bag of bones And the new and improved Luki - taken tonight, its incredible the difference a few weeks can make Take note of the size difference between him Skye & Storm now I guess its good as he will be small dog friendly when he grows up :D "Catch me if you can" Skye and Storm bolt off waiting to be chased

Hi Guys, Just wanted to share the news that Bailey has gone off to his new home. He was farewelled yesterday :p It was hard saying Goodbye. I almost didnt cry (tried so hard not to) - but as I held him in my arms one last time, broke down and couldnt help it. ;) So far he is doing well. He was taken for a walk this morning with the resident dog and they got on just fine. After a few more days of introducing them (walking them together) they will both reside at the familys home. As Shanie (resident dog) is staying with relatives just around the cnr while Bailey settles at home first. He is eating well and does not appear to be missing us I am happy for him. The girls are ok. They do not seem to be fretting for him. I feel terrible, seperating them after all those years together. But I feel I did the right thing, its like Bailey had to live in their shadows and compete for food, love and attention his whole life. Now he doesnt. Now he will be loved and spoiled for rest of his life, the way it should be. I look forward to many happy updates. ;) -

Dont worry I am about 5"5 and less than 50kgs and I walk 2 at a time sometimes... But they know whose boss. I was only thinking tonight as I walked Logan, that he would have to weigh nearly my weight. And I know when I walk Alaska and Jasmine together they definately exceed my weight, by a long shot. I use my voice with my lot and never let them get it over me. I feel sad for the husky you mention in your post. Not a good life for a sibe in an apartment. Not at all. Admittedly my old girl has been a house dog for her 11 years, but she has always had a good size back yard to run & frolick in. -

Baileys new family came today to meet him. They were lovely. We met at the park around the corner for several reasons. Firstly I wanted them to see Bailey without distraction from Alaska and Jasmine, vying for the attention. I wanted them to experience the real him, to see what he was like without distraction. Also, the lady had mentioned she was pregnant so I didnt want Alaska jumping up for cuddles and knocking her over or accidently hurting bub. And thirdly, it was a perfect excuse to walk him to the park. They were a lovely family. She bought her 10 yr old daughter along and her two friends. As soon as they jumped out of the car and came running toward Bailey, his tail began to wag. He was the perfect gentleman as I expected and lapped up the neck scratches and cuddles they gave. He stood there the whole time like the calm, placid soul he is. I was so very proud of him. They truly adored him and I am happy to say they will be adopting him. Mum wasnt afraid to get down and give him a cuddle either and they are quiet experienced and familiar with the breed. I was more than impressed to say the least. Bailey will be allowed inside and will get to go to the beach and will even have a groomer come in to bath him on a regular basis. They spoke highly of their other little dog recently passed and also of Shanie. Bailey is going to be one lucky boy. He will be picked up mid week and go off to his new home for a brand new start. They said Bailey was the one for them and I know that is true. I actually cried when I came home. Happy tears ofcoarse. I told him "This is it, soon you will leave for the best home in the world, youre a Lucky boy Bailey boy". (Teary eyed now) He knows, he isnt silly. Being a husky girl, I tend to attach to them very quickly and Goodbyes are always hard. He has come a long way. He eats his meals nice and slow, he has put on weight and he has finally felt what its like to be loved and not just be a dog left in the backyard that has to fend for himself at tucker time when his dinner was thrown to him. He will be a part of someones family now. A cherished family member who will be spoiled for the rest of his years. And at the end of the day - its what this is all about. It will be a very teary departure - but what's best for Bailey boy - is best for me. -

Thanks to Porsche, Bailey has a prospective adopter coming to meet him tommorow. This family were interested in the boy at Renbury who I must say is a dead spit of Bailey. But turns out he escpaes and this family do not want to risk him getting out and getting hurt. So they will come tommorow all the way from Jervis Bay to meet Bailey boy. Fingers crossed. They have an older husky girl who is sweet, but can be dominant. I think Bailey is a good choice. He is a mature age, so wont be jumping all over her carrying on. And he has a soft nature. So if she does put him in his place and let him know she's boss, he will not retaliate. I really think they'll get along fine. If all goes well Bailey will stay with them while their resident dog stays close by at their parents home. They will be introduced slowly and carefully by going on daily walks together. Once they are used of eachother both will reside at the families home. I like the fact they have husky experience, they recently lost another husky due to old age so they know the breed well and are prepared to give Bailey the time and love he deserves. I told her he loves his neck scratches and cuddles. She said he will get plenty of them. It will be sad to see Bailey seperated from his Mum and sister but a relief knowing he will be going to a good home with another husky buddy for company, oh and a little 10 yr old human friend. So fingers crossed for Bailey boy tommorow. And thankyou Porsche for the referral to this gorgeous boy. ETA and if it doesnt work out with Bailey, I will be sure to give this family other husky rescuers details in the hope they adopt a rescue dog! -
Yes Luki is doing great Teekay. Growing bigger by the day I LOVE the new pic of Mya on your sig! Wow - she looks different.

There is another one on the other side of the house too which houses Logan the big red & white boy from HP. Its not the hilton by a long shot, but its a safehouse until they find their real homes. Yes poor Phil, would of got a helluva fright that night. No wonder he never returned. I will not forget that night in a hurry and I doubt he will, thats for sure. One advantage of having so many dogs does ensure intruders are kept at bay. They go off like fog horns when strangers are about. Oh and the run the 3 are in actually goes in an L shape that you cant see. (to the left of the avairy) there is another 2 kennels, but they dont use them all that often. -

Dont mind Jacks shirt when I asked him to pick a shirt this morning, he picked Baileys (1 yr olds) Pyjama top. Do you think he would listen when I tried to get him to change it? When theyre dried properly I will give them a brush. (tommorow) -

Update on the happy little family, Jasmine, Alaska and Bailey. All 3 are doing well. Bailey has gained some weight and is looking fantastic. They have nearly been here for 2 mths now. They are sweet dogs. Alaska does try and get it over the other 2. She thinks she is the boss. I am thinking they would be fine if I rehomed seperately. Jasmine needs lots of love and its hard when Alaska is competing for it too. I give them all equal attention, but I feel Jasmine would do well as an only dog if she was given lots of love from her master. Same for Bailey. He is a teddy bear in a husky suit. Alaska is a very sweet girl. She loves her cuddles and neck scratches. All 3 love their walks and are easy to manage. I walk Alaska and Jaz together, then Bailey. I havent had a problem with flies on their ears as they have cream applied daily or every second day depending how bad the flies are. Its sad to think their ex-owners didnt care enough to do something about it. They had a bath today and enjoyed it. (and had a roll in the dirt afterwards )Theyve been wormed and heartwormed again today. (due 19th of each mth) I am running a day behind schedule. All three admire Jack. Iam glad I took them on and know one day their forever homes will come along. Until then they are safe and secure here at Husky Haven. ;) Jasmine - taken today after bathtime. She is a lovely 'Ol gal with so much love to offer *I am not sure if she has lost weight or not, but she does get smaller feeds than the other 2. Bailey has definately gained weight. His ribs arent visible anymore and I have had to adjust his collar twice the past few weeks as it was getting too tight. Alaska - she's a honey more to come
