Yeah you could try areas like Rooty Hill, Penrith - anywhere out west. Many are fine to have pets and the rent isnt too high. Goodluck and I have to say I think its great you will not be seperated from your furfriend. There are places out there you just have to find them. Wishing you the best.

Great to see you back Jed.

I used to use Curry powder or pepper for my 2 youngest huskies. I would leave them inside when I went to work (hadnt heard of crate training back then) they destroyed so many thngs, but they were pups and didnt understand that they were doing wrong. The curry/pepper sprinkled over the place worked a treat. It not only kept them safe from eating something they shouldnt, but also kept my belongings safe. Although the place did smell like an indian restaurant when I got home from work, but it was a small price to pay. I recommended this to my vet when he adopted Axle from me as they had rabbits in a cage and Axle was showing some interest in them. I told them to srinkle curry powder around the perimeters of the cage. It worked and although he still watched them from time to time, he never apprached the cage again.

Could he have some kind of OCD? the way you explain it is as though he can't help himself. Just a thought. 8 is rather a ripe age to be doing these things. If he can chew thru a garage door, I doubt a crate would keep him in. I'd be seeking some professional advice in the way of a behaviorist/trainer.

I thought it was odd too when I read some of the pound threads to see cases of parvo virus in this weather. Usuallyit is more prevelant in the warmer months. Its a worry. I still think there is a new strain. When we had all those cases in Summer and just after, I remember asking the vet whether it was possibly a new strain of the virus as some of the dogs diagnosed were infact vaccinated. He agreed and was thinking the same thing. Poor doggies. I feel sad for those that get it. Its an awful virus, very very cruel......

Oh and I meant to mention in my above post (with pics) the blk and white husky girl pictured with Luki is also a parvo survivor. Take a Look at Luki. I took this last night, as I busted him using Gypsy's butt as a pillow. And look at him here. Taken earlier in the night. Gives a good idea of how big he has grown as he sleeps on Baileys little lounge. He IS a bed hog, I can vouch for that. Legs he loves to use as pillows and she sprawls out like a star-fish. He is a very touchy/affectionate dog. Geez a few months ago he was smaller than Bailey. Look at him compared to back then.... Just as I am typing this Luki has moved from the kitchen floor into the lounge room and onto the lounge next to Jack. Luckily my camera is here so I grabbed a couple pics. See what I mean, this bugger is a smoocher and loves being close to ppl or other dogs. this was Luki and Bailey just a few mths ago. Theyre both growing up so fast!!! And taken just now as Luki plants himself on the lounge beside Jack

And Luki says Hi-5 back.
-
It surprised me that my lot were so accepting of Luki. I love watching them (the bigger dogs) watching Luki as he chews his toys and gets up to his puppy antics.... and then they join in and its on for young and old. And yes little Jack and Jaz are very close. Theyre the best of mates.
-
A couple of pics taken today/tonight to give an idea how big Luki's getting. Taken tonight. Note the size of him now next to Jack. And note the size of Baileys jumper. It doesnt fit Jack anymore and Jack insisted his younger brother Bailey wear it tonight. Oh and look where Gypsy is sitting! on the baby lounge - the bugger.... For the past few weeks I have been introducing Luki to my resident pack. So far so good, though I couldnt get them all in the one shot together. I managed 3 includ. Luki. He spends much of his days now running about in the back yard. It was so funny the other day. The neighbours have 2 GSHP dogs. One in particular likes to stick his head over the fence (he reminds me of a nosey old man with no shame) as she stares into the backyard. He is soooo cute. Anyways when Luki caught sight of this hairy steaky beak he ran 100 mile an hour tail between the legs. I wish I had the camera. I think Luki's part greyhound. He isn't scared now and is quiet intrigued by this big black head staring over the fence. He lets me know when he wants to come back inside by tapping on the back door. He doesnt stay in for long, he prefers to be out with the big boyz and galz. But come night time I bring him in. He sleeps on the bed with us. ETA spelling

Wanted: Foster Carer Or Rescue For Huskies X 3
k9angel replied to k9angel's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Yes Nanc comes over nearly every day and has a heart of gold when it comes to the doggies. She (and her husband) have adopted 2 of my rescues and the 3rd, well I think he is a foster failure - so I think we can say 3. Theyre very spoilt pooches I might add. A pom x chi "Coco" a shep x kelpie? "Sheba" and "Sammy" a gorgeous retriever x rough collie who looks more like a lion than a dog. I am really proud of Alaska for her triumph today. I have noticed the difference on our walks when she encounters people. She isnt so afraid anymore, she is showing more interest than fear. She is learning to trust in people, and I think starting to realise that not all people are bad. -
http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/natio...unge-in-darwin/ Explosive detection dogs have been put through a rigorous abseiling training session in Darwin ahead of their imminent tour of Afghanistan. The dogs, attached by harness to their Australian Defence Force trainers, took the plunge down the side of the 36 metre high Holiday Inn on the Esplanade in the CBD. Sapper Nathan Cooper said his kelpie, Raven, was nervous when it first went over the edge. "[but] once they are dangling there below they realise they are pretty safe," he said. "They usually just find a position they are comfortable with and dangle there and wait for the bottom." Corporal Troy Croton's 35-kilogram dog, Scuba, which is soon heading on its second tour of Afghanistan, had to abort its abseiling mission. "We got him over the edge and we found with one of the harnesses ... didn't quite fit him too well. "And safety is paramount for the dogs. "When we get to Afghanistan, they are in enough danger as it is." He said today's mission was about giving the dogs real-life training for the dangers they will soon face. "They've got to do the same thing and repel out of helicopters and all that stuff." Just like humans, he said dogs are not always that fond of heights. "Dogs do not like heights at all. "But it's part of the training and we've got to be ready for any scenario."

Wanted: Foster Carer Or Rescue For Huskies X 3

Gee alot has happened since I last updated this thread. As many of you will know Jasmine found a fantastic furever home and continues to do well. Apparently she is very happy in her new home. I cant wait for some pics of her to see her again. I will have to *hint hint* to her new family. I have some fantastic news regarding Alaska. NO she hasnt found a forever home as yet but my neighbour (and friend) came over this arvo and was so excited when I opened the door. She was going on about Alaska. I asked her 'What what is it?' She says Alaska came to the gate, gave her hand a kiss and wagged her tail for the first time ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She was so excited, it didnt register at first until I realised she had just said ALaska licked her hand. Anyone would think we'd won the lotto as we both jumped with joy! I am so happy I cannot tell you all how much of an achievement this is for Alaska. She wouldnt go to anyone other than me, OH, Jack or Bailey so to hear this is the best news.....Nancy commented on it being the first time she hasnt shyed away with her tail between her legs. -
OMG are they serious? this guy will get a slap on the wrist and will be free to do it all again. What a sadist. I once heard or read somewhere, that some killers actually start off abusing/torturing animals. What a worry to think this looney will be free to walk the streets. He has already attacked his Mother with a knife. and the poor Dad was too scared to sleep. And those poor dogs. :D He really sounds like some kind of sadist. This scumbags air supply needs to be cut off........and for good to teach him a lesson.

On sunday 1st July 2007 I lost one of my best ever mates "Claude". Claude was born 8.5.01 under my very bed. He was a Siberian husky who had the most gorgeous blue eyes imagineable. He was the last of 3 to be born. All 3 lived their lives with me, for I couldnt never part with them OR their Mummy, Gypsy. Claude was the 'town clown' as we called him. He was such a character and had the most gentle, placid nature. He liked to talk you see, and when I lived in Manildra (population of 500) the locals came to love Claudey boy for his soft gentle nature and also the fact he would have a good yarn to them when they stopped by to say hello. He was a gem. There was always something about Claude that melted by heart. He could do no wrong and was my very first husky boy. I treasured him. He lived a good life. He would come bushwalking, yabbying, fishing - you name it. Wherever there was me, there was Claude. Claude was sick a few says before he died. Nothing serious, just a little off colour and he certainly showed no signs that he was about to leave me forever..... It passed and he seemed fine again. The day before he died, he was not his usual self again. He was too quiet, seemed too distant. That night I gave him a special treat of roast chicken (off bone) and he ate it slowly but surely. The next day was a Sunday. He was acting weird all day. He was laying in places that he wold not normally lay. I remember sitting out the back and seeing his beautiful face staring from me as he sat beside the fence. He seemed really distant again and I called the vet hospital at lunch time to see if I could bring him in. I explained his symptoms and they said he should be fine until the morning as they were closed and only open for emergencies. If only I knew. Later that day I spent time with Claude brushing him and talking to him in preperation for his vet visit. You know I remember saying to him as I looked into his teary eyes "Gotta make you look beautiful boy, incase your gonna meet your maker". I do not know what made me say those words..... A short time later I called Claude really loudly at the back door and looked to find him unconcious. Blacky and Whitey were standing around him howling and trying to get him to wake up. Jay Jay, his sister did this eerie howl. I knew something was terribly wrong. His eyes were half open and his chest rising very slowly, but only just. I raced outside picked him and up and bought him inside. I packed Jack into the car (he was 6 or so mths then) and we rushed to the vet. What followed is something I will never forget and will remain with me forever. They worked so hard pumping adrenalin into his chest, cpr - you name it. I was screaming at the top of my lungs and poor Jack cried a cry I have not heard before or since. It was awful and seemed to go on forever. Finally they pronounced him 'gone'. I am crying now as I recall that day. I stayed with him for a long time afterwards. Stroking his fur and kissing his nose and talking to him. I promised I would see him again one day and we would be together again. It was hard to leave. I dont think I realised this was final - he was gone. Something inside of me was just waiting for him to start breathing again, but he didnt and I had to leave without him. :D I came back in 2 weeks to pick my boy up in an urn and his ashes sit safely in my wall unit, while his memory remains forever - in my heart. R.I.P. Claudey boy Mummy x x x x x x Every year to the the day I light a candle in memory of my boy and let it burn throughout the night, watching it flicker in the wind and remembering all our good times together. Tonight will be no different and a candle will burn brightly for Claude. I also place fresh flowers on the fence. (pink roses this morning) in dedication to my boy.....

Everytime I see the Pedigree Adoption drive ads I get teary eyed. Am I the only one? Especially the one with Gracie.... I think theyre a great idea and wish they would do more. It brings great coverage not only to that dog, but to them all. Hopefully they make people think differently, esp those wanting to adopt a dog. Its great also they are giving these dogs coverage on Aust. funniest home videos and in the newspaper. Good on them I say. Oh but I havent noticed the teddy's this time??? do they have them???
-
I say Good on her too. He should be happy he got anything at all by the sounds of things..... the article reads they were estranged after all.

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/break...-coast-rampage/ Police on the Gold Coast are hunting five men who went on a rampage which left a cab driver battered, a service station sprayed with a fire extinguisher, and a puppy speared with a sharp wooden stake. The drama began in the early hours of Sunday morning when the men flagged down a taxi at Tallebudgera and turned on the driver for no apparent reason. Senior Sergeant Chris Ahearn from Palm Beach says the cabbie pulled into a service station where the assault continued. "The driver was punched a number of times in the head and was spat on but fortunately his injuries are only minor. "Disturbingly it seems these individuals have flown into a rage as soon as they got into the cab, there's no indication they were intoxicated ... there was no attempt at robbery, it just seems to be a senseless act of violence." Sgt Ahearn said the service station attendant locked his door before the men could get inside but they found a fire extinguisher and sprayed it through a window. What followed, he said, was the most disturbing. As the men walked down the road a seven month old blue heeler puppy started barking at them. The dog's owner Julie Nicholas said she and her husband were woken by the noise and men yelling just before 4am (AEST). "My husband saw a big wooden stake in the yard and spotted the men down the street, but we didn't see that Tex was injured until later because the wound was hidden by his fur," she said. "They used a sharp hardwood stake from a for sale sign up the road to spear him with and it just opened him up between the shoulders; he's really lucky it didn't hit him lower down or in the head because it could have killed him. "It's good to see him so well now - he'll be fine - but it's a shocking thing to do to a dog and it's $800 we didn't need to spend just coming into the school holidays." Sgt Ahearn said he's very concerned at the viciousness of the attack on a puppy which was in a yard behind a high fence. "They were quite callous in the way they went about this attack, it's sickening and difficult to fathom," he said. Follow thewest.com.au on Twitter

It is anything but a dog's life for Conchita, a beloved Chihuahua whose eccentric owner bequeathed her a $US3 million ($A3.43 million) trust fund - a move now being contested by the late heiress' only son, local media reported. Heiress Gail Posner left her pooch (which she often decked out in a diamond necklace) a trust fund, and another $US27 million ($A30.83 million) to the staff of her Miami beach mansion so that they can get by (rent-free) while caring for her pets until they die. In contrast, Posner tossed a bone to her estranged son Bret Carr: a $US1 million ($A1.14 million) inheritance. A Miami court will now decide whether his late mother was manipulated into giving away her cash, as he contends, or if she spent it the way she wanted. "She never would have done that unless she was under extreme influence," Carr was quoted as telling The Miami Herald. Her staff "exacerbated her paranoia and tendency to be in a delusional world", he told the daily. Follow thewest.com.au on Twitter http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/world...erits-millions/

Update on Luki and pics as requested puppysniffer Well Luki is amost 6 months old now. He has grown into a lovely boy. He is going through the lanky stage as I call it. Tall and lanky. But he is filling out as he matures. He is a sweet boy. Very playful and happy. He eats like a horse, but thats understandable for a growing boy. He is fed twice a day, fresh chicken, meat bones and also a little dry food, when he wants it. He walks well on a lead, and knows sit and shake, well most of the time he'll shake - the bugger. He has been introduced to all but 2 of my dogs and gets along fine with all. He loves his toys and loves to play fetch. He is a well adjusted and lovely natured boy. Here are some pics I took tonight. Luki and Gypsy He is much bigger now... On the bed :p He still has his big roo ears to grow into I love this one as Luki waits patiently for a bicky off Bailey And ofcoarse Jack & Luki

Very Promising New Drug Ebc46 Found In Rain Forest In Qld
k9angel replied to labsrule's topic in In The News
I saw it on one of the news programs. They showed a lab that had cancer - before and after treatment with this new drug - OMG - amazing. The cancer had dissapeared. I wish I'd seen the other show with the husky and other dogs. -
Thats horrible doggyworth. They sound like neighbours from hell. Who the hell would complain at a dog barking for a few mins of a morning? I have only just read this from start to finish. Its good to see you got your furfriend a pal. Are they still complaining?

R.I.P. Gorgeous girl I am so sorry to hear of your loss Winterpaws. That was the most beautiful tribute.
