http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/break...uthanase-whale/ UPDATE: Authorities used explosives this afternoon to euthanase a humpback whale that was stranded off the Albany coast. The 9.5m, 12 tonne mammal was killed using explosives after it was stranded in Albany's Princess Harbour on August 19, 800m from shore. It is understood the whale was too large to shoot with a firearm and a local vet helped Department of Environment and Conservation officers in carrying out the euthanasia. A plane monitored the area for sharks as wildlife officers positioned the explosives around the whale and after they were detonated. A one kilometre exclusion zone was set up around the whale for public safety. DEC officers led by Albany district manager Mike Shepherd had been monitoring the whale’s condition during the last two weeks and took the decision to euthanase the animal after it re-positioned itself on a sandbar. “Our main priority has always been to treat this animal as humanely as possible while nature took its course. "In the last 24 hours the whale moved a couple of metres from its original stranding position, which was enough to stabilise the whale so that we could carry out the preparations for a controlled implosion to the whale’s cranium,” Mr Shepherd said. “This was not an option that was available to us until now as the animal, even while terminally sick, was still strong enough to present a serious safety risk to DEC staff and volunteers.” Arrangements have been made to remove the carcass this afternoon. WA’s Centre for Whale Research managing director said Curt Jenner said using explosives was the most humane way to euthanase the whale. He said whales were increasingly getting stranded along the State’s coast because of growing populations and, because of the size of the marine creature, chemical injections or a high-powered gun shot would not work. “It would be nice if there was something nicer than an explosion that explodes the animals head,” Mr Jenner said. “Although it is not pretty, in terms of pain for the animal … (it is for the best). That is ultimately the goal to put this animal out of its misery (and) it seems the best way to do it.” Nearly two years ago a stranded whale was put down in Jurien Bay using a similar method but it took at least 15 minutes to die. The 15-tonne humpback did not die instantly as hoped when the first charge exploded and an officer then shot the 10m whale several times in the head and, when it continued to thrash its tail, detonated a second charge about 15 minutes after the first. R.I.P. And swim free now...

Salivation & Unsteady On Back Legs
k9angel replied to k9angel's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Spoke too soon... Whitey had a seizure tonight at 10.45pm. It was a bad one. I was in the dining room on the laptop when I heard this thumping sound that went on and on. OH calls me and there is Whitey on the floor fitting. I got down on the floor and tried to get him to come to, his legs were going fast and his whole body jerking as he laid on the side. He was as stiff as an ironing board and didn't respond to me so I ran for the phone, OH stayed with him while I called the vet on his mobile. The vet said it sounded like an epileptic fit. Whitey has only just got up now. (11.31pm) He said it may be a possible bleed on the brain. He pooed himself, peed and had froff from the mouth as he was having the fit. It was so scary. The vet said to keep a blanket on him and to keep him quiet and in a dark room, so we left him in the hallway turned everthing off bar the lamp and patted him as he came round. He is standing here on the bed acting weird atm. I am scared he is going to go again....He is also panting alot -

Whitey is doing well. He has picked up tenfold to what he was. We had a couple of scary days with him being so quiet and down but he has been doing great the last few days. Back to his old happy self. He is on 3 cortisone tabs for the next 2 mornings and then down to 2 per morning. He has finished his antibiotics. He sleeps inside and spends alot more time inside during the day now, I think it has helped with his recovery. I know it's a long way yet, and I do expect the occassional hiccup but I am full of hope as always. He is stitting on the lounge atm with a smile from ear to ear. -
+1 +2 x3. I didn't/couldn't watch the video to it. And I agree if she is like this now, imagine what she'll be like when she is older. Some people have no conscience and NO heart.

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/newsh...uppies-outrage/ A video of a girl tossing half-a-dozen puppies into a river has sparked outrage online with chat forums and Facebook pages calling for her to be tracked down and punished. The 44-second video, which was originally posted on YouTube, shows a blonde girl in a red sweatshirt casually taking the squealing black-and-white puppies out of a white bucket and tossing them into the fast-moving river one by one. The video was removed from YouTube but has been embedded on a number of other sites. Several Facebook pages have been created dedicated to exposing the girl, who appears to be a teenager, including one called "Find the Girl Who Threw Puppies in River" that has attracted more than 1,200 friends. "Find this girl and send her to prison for animal cruelty," Facebook user Jacqueline Wills wrote on the page. "Throw her in the river!!!" wrote Dave Sherrid. Many of the messages on Internet message forum 4chan threatened extreme violence against the girl, who was identified by some users as being from Bosnia. The puppies video surfaced just days after an uproar in Britain over a video which showed a 45-year-old woman dumping a cat in a garbage bin. The woman became the subject of an Internet hate campaign after her actions were caught on camera and the footage posted online. The cat was discovered and rescued 15 hours later.

R.I.P. and Run free with Tara now Chisel.

R.I.P. little Patches. (Chihuahua - aged 12 yrs belonged to the Mother & Father in law) You were a cute little critter, a real little gremlin. You'd been having seizures on and off for the past few months and were on medication. It didn't help. It all came to a head yesterday when you had that fit. Although you seemed to pick up a little you were still stumbling and falling to the side. This morning when it happened again and you failed to get back on your feet, your family made one of the hardest decisions - to let you go. The vet said you had a clot on your brain. I hope your passing was quick my little friend as you were led across the Bridge.... You will not only be missed by your human family, you will also be missed by your Son, Toby and foster sister Rosie. R.I.P. and run free again now

Even ol' Mum got a turn. I miss my old horse so much, it was good to be back in the saddle, even if I didn't have the reins Jack loved cuddling the rabbits Little Bailey (my youngest) thought the baby calf was funny... He didn't know which animal to chose, there were so many Jack patting one of the baby goats - those little cuteys were so friendly Patting the little cow - so cute... Bailey spots ducks And just when he thought he had them cornered... Bailey studies the piglet -

Little Jack turns 4 in a couple of weeks and today he attended one of his cousins Birthday parties and had his first ride on a horse. These people go all out and don't spare the horses so to speak. They hired a jumping castle and one of those petting farms with a pony and the kids got to have a ride. As soon as arrived and eyed the pony, there was no time to speak to relo's I high tailed it straight for the horse. Jack got to have a ride. It was his first ride and when he was first put into the saddle he was a little nervous, however that soon changed as he was led around the yard. He loved it. I don't have the flashest camera but glad I did take it along today. I hope one day to get him a pony of his own. Here are some pics...

Gypsy has had a good day. Plenty of treats, cuddles and weve (me and the kids) sang Happy Birthday to her several times. She has been grazing all day. Oh well, it's not everyday you turn 11, is it? So she is excused. She went for a short walk earlier and enjoyed it immensley. (She can't go too far because of her back/legs) She is now snoring at my feet. ;) Some of the treats they all got to share today, liver rolls, liver chip biscuits, dried chicken necks, and these little bicky things. We didn't even get to the dog choc drops or pig ears. :D She even had a home made fruit scone Enjoying more treats... With her Birthday hat on, believe it or not she does like to wear it. Manages a smile for the camera Even Jasmine gets in on the Birthday spirit Luki wasn't so keen and just wanted to eat his hat... Me and Gypz taken by Jack And after all the festivities, she naps
-
No, they all got homes, bar Cindy who is still with her carer. Jasmine is a foster failure from early last year. Actually I think she has been here a year now. I have to check. She is 7 yrs old, a gorgeous border collie/kelpie blend. She is my Sons heart dog.

A dog is for Life - not just for Christmas With the kids last year Gypsy loves the sun - even on the hottest days she will bake out in the middle of the yard My girl "Gypz" Isn't she pretty? I love this one. Taken last year after her op. She was giving teddy what for. Sad and sorry after her op... With her foster sister Jasmine I will get a Birthday pic of her later today.

Happy 11th Birthday to the sweetest Girl in the world, my heart dog "Gypsy" Gypsy came to me at 8 mths of age. She has been with me ever since. I have had my share of ups and downs over the years and Gypz has always been there for me. And it hasn't been a smooth ride for her either, in her later years she's had 2 lots of mammary tumours removed, tumours on her eyelids removed, and she recovered from a horrible back injury which left her paralyzed for weeks. I never gave up on her. Gypsy was my very first husky. She has taught me so much about the breed and there will never be another dog for me. Huskies are in my heart forever now, thanks to Gypz. So Happy Birthday Ol' girl. I love you forever & always. Mummy XXX Taken last year for her 10th Birthday About a year and a half ago - with Jack & Bailey With my Son Jack Taken after her big op last year - in the kids tent With Jasmine - our foster failure & Jacks heart dog Taken before her op last year - I was afraid she wouldn't make it - and she almost didn't. About a year ago With Jack, Jasmine and a past rescue, Bobby. All waiting for a share of Jacks bicky. More to come

Salivation & Unsteady On Back Legs
k9angel replied to k9angel's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Here is a link to a site with more info on this disease if anyone is interested. I still have alot to learn myself. http://www.thensome.com/throm.htm I have to say he is doing extremely well, especially for a dog that according to the vet, should of been dead. It is a miracle he is still here and I am so grateful. He is getting stronger and seems to be responding well to the cortisone. I am still going to organise a transfusion. The vet suggested it and asked if I had a donor on standby. I do. I have several healthy dogs here and from my understanding, it is not painful or distressing to them. They are put under and the blood is taken then they awake as though nothings happened. I Will keep you all posted on his progress. And a big thankyou to you all for your kind words and support for Whitey.
