  1. So sorry to hear. R.I.P. girl
  2. Alaska is still in care Spottychick. She has her own thread. She is living with us until her forever home comes along.
  3. Here are some pics I have recieved over the last few months of Bailey boy. He is doing really well in his new home and is a very loved member of the family. ;) (apologies if any have already been posted, they are in no particular order) Isn't he looking gorgeous??? think I posted this one already??? This one must of been not long after arrival - he has my trademark yellow ear tips :D This one is so sweet, resting on his Mummy's pregnant tummy - little bub is now approx 3 mths old Snug as a bug.... There is another pic, the most recent one of him sitting on the grass - but flickr wont let me upload saying the file is too large.
  4. I am confused, do you support the sale of puppies in shops or not? No I do NOT support petshops selling puppies. How is it confusing? I prefer to speak with him in person (he will know me once he sees my face - I consider myself a valued customer) and yes I will write to them aswell. If they continue to sell them I will let the owner know I will not be returning and will buy my supplies elsewhere.
  5. Oh no this is expected and certainly will be part of the future for all pet owners. It has been sugested many times and by the most respected of the radical no more pets groups, that one of the best ways to get rid of pet dogs is to start going after the owners. Make it very difficulte and intrusive to get a dog. Must have permit in advance from the shire in order to get a dog, tests and/or classes prior to getting a permit, home inspections and approval of the breed wanted, making sellers of pets responsiable to do background checks and the buyers would have to pay for all this (part of getting the permit) and seller would keep the documention, it goes on and on. Yes this fits in very nicely. Oh I see! So ultimately they're trying to encourage black marketeering! k9angel. When my local petshop had puppys for sale in their shop one day, I walked in - told the owner off, gave him a lecture about BYB and dog pounds, told him he'd lost a good customer, walked out without making my usual purchases and never returned. I asked to speak with the owner both times and he was out. ;) I havent seen him there either. When I do see him I will be having a word to him, no garentee that he'll listen but I will be saying something. I don't even like going there now, it just makes me so sad and angry. ;)
  6. Most just get a slap on the wrist, if that. And exactly, who IS going to mandate the animals sold in papers and the internet? Mant of which are the products of BYB, these people do not care who buys their animals, so long as they get their $$$$ worth.
  7. Yeah and lack of caring and a conscience I even note visiting the store I go to to buy straw, seed and supplies for my pets. They NEVER used to have puppies. Now they do. It breaks my heart to see them sitting there in their cage. Theyve had mini pins and fox terriers the past two weeks. All but one has been sold. Theyre charging in excess of $500-700 for these pups. Last weekend when I went to pick up my supplies I observed as a family (mother and kids) purchased a puppy. It was the kids who wanted the pup, NOT the Mum but she gave into their constant nagging to get one. How bloody sad. The staff didn't help, offering to get the pups out for the kids to nurse, even before it was decided they were going to take one home. They were just happy to get a sale. Perfect example of an impulse buy and why pet shops should NOT be selling puppies and kittens IMO.
  8. Ban on Pet owners By Briana Domjen Pet shops should be given the power to conduct background checks on customers following an alarming spike in incidents of animal cruelty. Animal welfare groups the RSPCA and the Animal Welfare League (AWL) are campaigning for increased autonomy for pet shop staff. If introduced, pet shop owners would have the power to check criminal history for any charges associated with animal cruelty before allowing someone to take home a new puppy or kitten. AWL CEO Maryann Dalton said the only way to address the issue of animal cruelty was to ban from buying pets anyone deemed unsafe. "AWL would certainly support the recommendation by RSPCA to encourage pet shop owners to carry out background checks on customers they consider unfit to care for an animal", she said. RSPCA inspectors recieved 15,083 complaints of animal cruelty in NSW this year - 2000 more than 2008. The trend of torturing, slaughtering and dumping pets has outraged the RSPCA, which is calling for pet shop owners to choose an animal's welfare over a quick profit. "They do have the right to refuse any sales, and we would encourage pet shop owners to err on the side of caution as opposed to making a quick sale if it means that the right animal goes to the right home:, RSPCA NSW chief executive Steve Coleman said. "We've seen pups and kittens destroyed by a variety of means. "There is just no reason in this day and age". But primary industries minister Steve Whan does not support the move, saying mandatory background checks on potential pet buyers as "impractical and unnecassary". RSPCA inspector Matt French said he has seen shocking examples of animal cruelty". "Somebody chose to drown their pet cat because it was an older cat and their reasoning was that they thought it would be too expensive to take it somewhere". Mr French said. "I think it all comes down to the same thing, lack of education, lack of knowledge and lack of money".
  9. Sorry to hear this - it's a worry when theyre sick. :D Sending lots of healing vibes for Rover.
  10. Thankyou Julie for being so helpful and highlighting this boys plight. I have to say I cried when I read his story on the Hawkesbury thread. From what I can gather his owner, a man of 78 was devastated having to surrender him. He has to go to hospital for a hip relacement and cannot care for his 14yr old cattle dog whilst recovering. He has no family to help. This man has had this dog since he was a pup. Fourteen years is a long time, I am sure theyve sent many happy times together and kept eachother company over the years.... I am preying, hoping and crossing everything that they get to be reunited again. This is just my opinion here but I do believe it may even help with the mans recovery IF he knows his friend is going to be coming home. Please I am hoping someone can help....
  11. Revolting... Poor trusting dog. What goes through these monsters minds? How could anyone in their right mind cause such cruelty? I'll never understand some people. I agree they are oxygen thieves and the same should be done to them as punishment. I also signed the petition. I hope they get those responsible.
  12. Thankyou everyone for your kind words. Jack sat down with me a little while ago and we went through all the pics together. It was nice looking back at the dogs and remembering.... He is a special kid, even if I may say so. He makes me so proud. :p

  19. I nominated Jack for an MDBA award this year. He is more than deserving. :D :D Award Category: Best Junior in Canine Helpfulness or Kindness (Not sure if I am allowed to post the nomination I done for him) Jack has recently turned 4 years old. Many of you may know him from my rescue threads. Jack is an Angel. I am not only blessed to have him in my life, but so are these dogs.... I am extremely proud of Jack, for all that he has achieved this past two years. For the many lost souls he has comforted and bought back to life. He is not only a ray of sunshine in my life, but is also a ray of sunshine for the many dogs he has met along the way. Here are just some of the many pics I have of Jack with our resident dogs and rescue dogs that have been in, and are in our care. This will take a while as there a few pics to upload. 20. Have you checked to make sure he is hydrated? Lift the skin on the back of his neck, does it retract quickly or stayed raised? He is drinking alot, or a little??? When I bought Luki (with parvo) home I gave him gastrolyte in with his water. Gastrolyte helps keep up the electrolytes and helps to prevent dehrydration. It should also increase his energy levels. You can buy it in iceblock (or powder) form, maybe he will lick it??? (I think I used to syringe it into Lukis mouth too) but if your little one is drinking readily it may be worth a try putting some into his water??? I remember the first thing Luki ate after not eating for several days was a fried steak, cut into tiny squares. I took it to the surgery and the vet said it was ok to give it to him. He ate a little during the night and the rest in the morning, so I had to take more to him. (I recall the vet telling me to bring some more down as he was loving it) Do you have any nutrigel - or can you get some?
  21. Wishing your little one all the best and hope he starts eating properly soon. It's a horrible feeling when you can't get them to eat. It is good he is drinking though. I have two parvo survivors here. What about that parvaid stuff? I have never used it but I have heard of it. Does anyone know if that'll help any?? Crossing my fingers for you all.
  22. To ensure the dog doesn't end up in the wrong hands??? sadly not only decent people go to the pound to source a dog, so do BYB. I do not do that myself but yes it does happen.
