  1. Great to hear. I was actually considering seeing a naturopath for Whitey, my boy with IMT. He was having regular seizures, sometimes more than one per day. He is on phenomav and when the seizures were increasing in frequency, the vet advised I up his phenomav from 1 morning, 1 night to 1 morning and 2 night. As it was the phenomav was knocking him around. He was like a zombie most of the time. It was not the quality of life I wanted for him so I went the opposite way and decreased his meds to only 1 phenomav a day. The seizures have slowed down believe it or not, and he is much more lively now. He was seizure free for almost 2 weeks, had one and has been seizure free now for 11 days. I am hoping to wean him off the phenomav for good eventually.
  2. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. R.I.P. Sam
  3. Jaz was picked up about half hour ago. She was sooooo excited when she saw them and even more so once the gate opened and she was put into her harness. ;) When they first got here we invited them inside and Jack gave Jasmines Xmas presents from under the tree. They gave me a gorgeous bunch of flowers and although I told them from the start I did not expect payment, Paul handed me $150 and said it was a donation. So sweet of them. I was just happy to have her back with us for a holiday. She was no trouble whatsoever. Oh and they loved their suncatcher. I told Jody I had made it for them with Jacks help and she gave us both a big hug. As they were leaving, we were all at the gate and Jack was still standing there with the orange ball that the other dogs loved to play with. (he was holding it the whole time inside too). We all said our goodbyes but Jack was a little upset and I couldn't figure out what it was over. He knew Jaz's Mummy and Daddy were coming back for her and didn't appear sad when he said Goodbye. Anyways when Paul said "Bye Jack" to him he held up the orange ball and said it was for Jasmine. I am in tears just thinking about it. It was the sweetest thing. Paul took the ball and thanked him. Jack was happy then. ;) We stood there & waved as they drove off in their flash silver mercerdes. Jaz didn't even look back. She is the luckiest girl. I feel so proud to be of been able to give her a chance to live and to be loved. Talk about a rags to riches story. It's the best ending I could of ever hoped for her. :D - happy tears
  4. Well it's been 2 weeks since Jaz was dropped off and I dread saying Goodbye again. ;) We have just finished wrapping her some Xmas presents to take back home with her. Jack loved to help and went along putting Xmas stickers on them all. We got her a gorgeous bling tag, a new 180cm lead that is purple with yellow paw prints on it, and a large back of shmakos. Oh and for her Mummy & Daddy I made a pretty suncatcher. She has been out in the clam pool all morning, I will have to get some more pics before she leaves us again. Oh and I will be telling Paul anytime they need a babysitter, we are always here. A pic I got of them this morning after their wade in the pool And Jazzies little Xmas bag of goodies, all ready to go. I imagine she will be beside herself with joy when she see's her Mum & Dad again. It will be a lovely reunion.
  5. No, not all that unusual. Brood bitches are especially likey to be kept that long. We recently had one breeder who dumped 3 old brood bitches, we have rehomed 2 with one still to go (she is the youngest - nearly 9). This dog was not one of them she has just been sitting in kennels (but hasn't been with her owners - they passed her on a long time ago) waiting for years. It is very hard (but not impossible ) to find homes for old girls like this so we usually only take on one at a time. Good on you for giving the oldies a go. I hope you find out what is wrong with her. When she is eating, is she eating slowly or gulping it down? I know when I bought Jasmine, ALaska and LOgan home they would often have a vomitt after their meal because the poor buggers were used of competing for their dinner and although fed seperately were still hoffing it down. It went on for quiet some time with Jasmine but she is fine now. She has slowed right down and doesn't do it anymore. Just a thought.
  6. Thankyou for taking her in and giving her the love she needs. Poor girl. Some people make me sick, literally. Thank Dog there are people like you in this world. PLEASE give her a gentle hug from me.

    Zoe

So sorry to hear Raelene. I have tears rolling down my cheeks. Thinking of you & sending my condolences. R.I.P. Zoe Run free again sweet girl. XXX I AM WITH YOU I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep. I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep. I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear, "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here." I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea, You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me. I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore. I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more. I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care. I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there. I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key. I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "it's me." You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair. I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there. It's possible for me, to be so near you everyday. To say to you with certainty, "I never went away." You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew... in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you. The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning and say "goodnight, God bless, I'll see you in the morning." And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide, I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side. I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see. Be patient, live your journey out ... then come home to be with me. ~ Author unknown
  8. You wouldn't believe it :D Luki likes to ride down the kids eezy peezy slide. I've sent him run up it before and also sit on the cubby house roof. But this afternoon I called him up on command and he jumped up/ran up every time without fail. He'd stand there backwards while I'd give him a push back down. It is soooo funny. He stands up and goes down backwards. :D He jumps straight back up for more. He thrives on the cheers, the laughs and the claps he gets. He is such a smart, smart boy. A couple of pics I managed to get - note each pic is of him having seperate turns down the slide - I had to give him a push and try and take a pic at the same time. He must of gone down 30 odd times at least. ;) I have to get a video of him doing it. He must like the feeling of his paws on the rollers. One word sums Luki up, a 'clown'. A loveable one at that. He always makes us laugh. And he's off & sliding. Look at his facial expression. He loves it. Sorry the pics are a bit blurred. He WAS going at pretty fast speed.

    Poor Roxy

R.I.P. Roxy No animal deserves that - your owner should be shot, not given a measly $2000 fine. :D
  10. You learn something new everyday. I thought 'by law' stray dogs had to be handed into the pound, whether they are chipped or not. ETA I am sure this is the case - unless it is different in different states????
  11. Awww something in my eye here. Gorgeous story. Good on her. Love a happy ending.
  12. So sorry to hear Kirty. R.I.P. Bunnies
  13. I have Gypsy, Jay Jay, Blacky, Whitey, Zuess, (huskies), Jasmine a border collie x kelpie, Luki a shep x husky, they are my resident dogs. Plus Alaska, a rescue husky, her Mother Jasmine, an ex husky rescue who is back for a 2wk holiday, Logan a rescue husky, Romeo a terrier x rescue pup, and Max a maremma blend rescue pup. So that's 7 resident dogs + 4 rescues and 1 boarder at the moment. I don't think I have forgotten any. Foodwise I buy bulk fresh chicken and meat bones. Bag and freeze as I go along. Plus they get dry food and treats. Walks are the hardest. I sometimes walk 2 at a time. I usually go on a roster system as I cannot walk that many dogs in one day. (well not with 2 kids) but I have a huge backyard and they get lots of toys/games of fetch aswell. Plus each is different and has their own needs, old Gyps for example can only be lightly walked due to the fact she has a bad back, Poor Whitey can't be walked fullstop atm. Logan could walk to the moon and back given half a chance. Theyre all different. Bedding: They have several kennels. 3 large igloo ones out the back + a double garage with clam pools filled with blankets, there is 3 kennels in Alaskas run, and one igloo one in LOgans run. Gypsy (who is a senior), Luki, Whitey (sick boy), Jasmine, Max and Romeo all sleep inside at night. It's a full house that's for sure.
  14. That's one lucky pooch. Poor boy would of been in agony or so one would think.
  15. I am doing one for one of the doggies. I asked about it this morning at the PO and they knew all about it. I'll post it off Monday or Tuesday. Off to study what I can and can't send.
  16. **PLEASE NOTE** I have not watched the video. It would be too distressing. BEIJING (AFP) - A group of "crush fetishists" has caused an online storm in China after uploading graphic videos showing attractive young Chinese women crushing small rabbits. In the widely circulated videos, several smiling women are seen in turn cuddling and playing with small bunnies just before crushing them as other giggling girls look on. In one scene, a young woman places a bunny on a table before covering it with a plate of glass and sitting on it for about a minute. She then lifts the glass up to reveal the lifeless bunny, blood oozing from its snout. Another of the girls dispatches one of the rodents by crushing it under her high heels. The videos have sparked a heated response from web-users, who launched what is known in China as a "flesh search" -- an effort to reveal the girls' true identities. "It is hard to imagine someone could be so perverted," said one chatroom entry on the popular portal NetEase. "Flesh-search them! Uncover these rabbit abuse women and spit on them," said another. Such online vigilantism has been effective in the past in exposing malfeasance by corrupt businessmen, officials, and others. The searches have revealed that a user group of animal-crushing enthusiasts was organising and financing the videos, according to media reports. A purported apology by one of the girls was circulated online this week, but many critics dismissed it as unauthentic and a bid by the fetish group to tamp down the outrage. China Radio International quoted one girl identified as Huang Xiaoxiao as saying she had been paid to do several videos. Payment starts at 100 yuan (about 15 dollars) for crushing fruit, 200-300 yuan for "other small animals" and up to 400 yuan for rabbits, she was quoted saying. China's censors have in recent years carried out a much-publicised crackdown on what they say is a proliferation of porn and other vulgar online content. China has the world's largest number of Internet users, with 420 million according to the most recent Chinese count. http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/business/...e-online-anger/ Speechless What is the world coming to?
  17. Yes Cyn there certainly still is a connection. When Alaska saw her it was like she couldn't believe her eyes. She crep't up to the gate and I went in and put her on a lead. I figured it wouldn't be smart to just open the gate and let Jasmine in so I bought Alaska out on the lead. They sniffed, wagged, had a little growl but overall were very happy to see one another. It was sad when Jasmines Mum and Dad left. Jasmine started crying and pawing at the gate. They felt bad. Paul says "I only wish she could talk so I could tell her we'll be back". I was thinking the same thing just the other night. Poor girl probably thinks she is back for good and that her family doesn't want her anymore. But like I said to them "Imagine how happy she'll be when you get back" It's only for 2 weeks. They are going to Lord Howe Island and had it booked since just after Xmas last year. I have to say she looks fantastic. I can tell she is a very special part of their family and until their return will be a special part of ours again.
  18. Guess who is coming for a 2 week holiday tommorow? Jasmine. She will be dropped off at 11.30am. This was all arranged when she was adopted so I have been expecting her. Her parents are going away and we all decided it best Jaz come back here as opposed to a boarding kennel. I hope her and Alaska still get along ok. I am nervous and excited in one! :D Here is a pic taken a week ago of Jasmine. She looks fantastic, she will be 10 yrs old soon Dog love 'er.
  19. I am so sorry to hear this BF. I applaud you and respect you for putting your pups health and wellbeing first. Seriously I couldn't imagine life without a dog. I have had them all my life. Growing up as a kid and now as an adult. My life just wouldn't be the same without them. It must be so hard for you. Is there no way you could get an inside dog take him/her for walks daily (around the block, or to a park maybe?) just a thought. Wishing you the best of luck.
  20. Opera singer Jessica Yeo has given her dog a kiss of life, literally. The stunning Melbourne soprano performed an incredible mouth-to-snout resuscitation on her Australian bulldog Bella who had swallowed a bee and had stopped breathing. "Her gums turned white, her tongue turned blue, her eyes rolled back in her head and she stopped breathing and then her heart stopped," Yeo is reported as saying by The Herald Sun. Yeo's partner Eugene Bouchard had tried to initiate an early CPR but gave up and declared the dog dead. But Yeo did not give up and immediately "shoved" her head deep into Bella's mouth, pumping powerful breaths into her windpipe. " I knew I had to save her so I pulled her tongue free, checked her throat was clear and started breathing deeply down her throat," she says. The singer continued to help the dog breathe as her partner drove them to the nearest vet. "I could tell air was getting to her neck but not going past so I just kept breathing as deeply as I could, while holding her cheeks over mine to stop the air escaping," Yeo recalls. Her effort did not go in vain and a few minutes of powerful pumping later, Bella started responding. "I suddenly heard a pop sound which probably the noise of her airways opening up". After two hours under observation, Bella was discharged and is said to be recovering well. Yeo says she didn’t have to think twice to perform the life-saving act on her dog. "She's our baby. She means the world to us, so we'd do anything to save her," Yeo says http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/natio...mouth-to-mouth/ How lovely. I saw them on one of the Current affairs programs too. I have given 2 newborn pups CPR in the past with success and if I had to give one of my own dogs CPR, I would without hesitation.
