  2. So sorry to hear Dollygirl. R.I.P. to both your babies. How heartbreaking.
  3. As some of you may of read I took in a stray pregnant cat to have her kittens. She goes to Kelcats/DCH tommorow and had 6 babies in the early hours of the morning. Sadly one of those little ones was so tiny, weak and unwell that she didn't make it. I have decided to call her Angel. She deserved a name at least. She passed away at about 6.45pm and has been buried in the front garden where she is now resting in peace. Sorry I couldn't do more to give you a chance at life, I knew that you were in trouble I could see you were in strife. I tried to give you fluids You tried your very best, Although you were unwell You fought hard to be like the rest. As you began to cross the bridge I held you close to me, I smiled at your little face As invisible wings set you free. Peacefully you rest in the garden now You'll never be alone, Forever you will stay in my heart Forever this will be home. :D ;) Angel pictured at the front (white with ginger) R.I.P. Bub. XXX

  5. I am so sorry Gayle. I dread the day I have to say Goodbye to my old girl. My heart is with you and I will be thinking of you tommorow.
  6. http://www.smh.com.au/environment/weather/...0114-19qji.html Five minutes' drive from Gatton town centre sits Noah's Ark, close to overflowing with the voiceless victims of the Lockyer Valley floods. Noah himself – let's call him Bob Doneley, the bearded senior vet at the University of Queensland's Small Animal Hospital – is straining to hear us over the yaps and yelps of 27 dogs but he rattles off a list of animals rescued from the Grantham and Helidon area. Also crammed into the Ark are seven cats, two rats, two Siamese fighting fish, two quail, five ring-neck doves. There are no partridges. Advertisement: Story continues below Lost dogs wait for their owners in the University of Queensland Veterinary Hospital in Gatton. Photo: Paul Harris "But we are expecting more birds today so there could be a partridge coming in," Dr Doneley said. He jokes, but the hospital is at capacity and the university is relying on its own water supply in the aftermath of the devastation and those supplies won't last forever. "We run out in about five days but we're pretty confident we'll be OK until things get back to normal," he said. The most important reason the animals need to be reunited with their owners is for the owners themselves. "I think because a lot of [people] and particularly the Grantham people have lost everything," Dr Doneley said. "Their pets are the one thing they can hold and say 'well this is mine' and so that's a very psychological reason for people to be reunited. "Just to have some firm contact with the pre-flood days." The dogs are being housed in spacious individual cages along one wall in three rooms of the recently built hospital. Many are trembling, the odd one is taking a nap. The vets, nurses and volunteers don't know any of their names but they've worked out a system. "There's the little white one that slept all day, the noisy dachshund who's being washed and the tan with the cruciate ligament injury," Dr Doneley said. There are a few pups in intensive care. The worst case is a female dog found staked through the chest by a yellow road closed sign. "She's doing pretty well for a dog that came in with her intestines around her knees," he said. The hospital has been able to reunite one family with their pets so far. "We had some people come in yesterday and pick up two kittens and a dog," Dr Doneley said. "They'd got them out through the roof and into a helicopter and the animals were brought to the pound, then brought here." It's not a bad life for the animals. Volunteers such as Laidley boy Jadam Baker, 13, come in most days to help wash and walk the dogs. Jadam and his family were hit by the floods but he wants to help. "We got evacuated but our house is safe so we thought we'd do something," his father, Tony Baker, said. Still, it can't compare to a bowl of food and a pat and a tummy rub from your human. Georgina Robinson is smh.com.au's Chief Reporter. So sad. I can only imagine how many other poor dogs and cats and other pets were lost or killed in these floods.
  7. 26-year-old Castletown man has been handed a suspended sentence, fined $5000 and ordered to pay costs of $1500 after admitting to kicking and drowning his dog in an esky. Appearing in Esperance Magistrate's Court on a charge of animal cruelty, Michael David Hastie was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, suspended for 18 months. As well as the sentence and the fine, Hastie was also banned from having a pet for the next five years. An application for a spent conviction order was rejected by Magistrate Felicity Zempilas. Earlier, Hastie told the court he only kicked the dog once in anger, breaking its right hind leg, when he returned home from work about 10.30am on May 30 and realised it had damaged his reticulation system. He then decided to put the animal "out of its misery" by drowning it in an esky, because it was in pain. But veterinary surgeon Isabel Norman, who conducted an autopsy on the dog, told the court it had been exposed before death to three blunt force trauma injuries, caused by a large object, to its leg, stomach and upper jaw. Hastie said he phoned two veterinary practices – Swans Veterinary Services and the Esperance Veterinary Hospital – three times on a landline and then placed 10 calls on his mobile phone to an after-hours message service, all on May 30. He said he only reached a message bank, but his phone records indicated he had dialled 101 – the same number used to retrieve messages on mobile phones. Ms Zempilas found Hastie had drowned the dog deliberately, and that he had not tried to seek medical assistance for the wounded animal. She said the sentence needed to send a strong message to the accused and the wider community that such conduct is never acceptable and must be punished. http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/newsh...r-dog-drowning/ Poor dog. R.I.P.
  8. I have those clam pools for mine. They usually stand in it to cool down. Sometimes they'll have a splash and one in particular; "Zuess the goose" as I call him dips his whole head under. My older girl and Whitey (who has IMT) stay inside most of the time on the tile floor under the air con.
  9. R.I.P. Little Bill Hugs to you Pers. You did your very best. So sorry youv'e had such a bad run of late.
  10. I wish I didn't look. Now I am in What heartless, cold hearted oxygen thieves. They (those responsible) deserve to have a noose tied around their neck(s) and be tossed off a bridge. They did appear to be in good condition, makes you wonder if they were someones pets that had been stolen or whether it was done as some kind of sick payback. (relationship breakup, dispute with neighbours??) whatever the reason there is absolutely NO excuse for that. Some ppl are born not only without a conscience, but also without a heart. I hope they find them and I hope after they live a life of hell (bad karma) then rot in hell. Absolutely sickening. :D R.I.P. babies
  11. Lots of hugs to you and your family Pers. How sad. May she be chasing all those Angel bunnies and keeping dear old Freddie company. R.I.P. Molly
  12. I am so sorry Pers. R.I.P. Freddie - what a sweet looking boy he was.
  13. I heard on the news tonight that a heap of dead birds have now dropped from the sky in Sweden. Very sad and very concerning. What's going on I wonder?. Hot one day, snowing the next, floods and now birds and fish just dropping dead.
  14. http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/world...ystery-deepens/ mysterious phenomenon is taking place in the skies over southern America as thousands of birds simply drop from the sky. On Monday we brought you the story of thousands of dead birds littering the streets of a small town in Arkansas; one theory presented was that New Year’s Eve fireworks were the cause of the problem. READ MORE: Falling blackbirds baffle Arkansas officials But the mystery has now deepened after roughly 500 red-winged blackbirds dropped to the ground in Louisiana. The carcasses of the birds were reportedly found littering a 400 metre stretch of road in Pointe Coupee, Louisiana. Louisiana and Arkansas share a border, and the two towns in which the incidents occurred are roughly 500 km apart. A woman in Kentucky, north-east of Arkansas, claims she also found hundreds of dead birds in her garden. Scientists have struggled to explain how so many birds, covering such a large area, could all have met the same fate. Vicious storms in the area over recent days are possibly to blame, with hail, lightning and tornadoes being reported in some areas. The birds may also have flown into objects after altering their flight paths due to New Year’s Eve fireworks. The Associated Press reports that internal injuries were found in some of the birds tested in Beebe, Arkansas. Yesterday, around 100,000 fish were also found dead 200km north-west of Beebe, although scientists do not believe the two incidents are related.
  15. I could never leave mine behind. I was wondering what happened to the pets when they say people were evacuated. I never knew you had to leave them behind though. Makes me feel sick to the stomach too. I wonder how many were left behind with these floods? ;) Taken from Yahoo Residents are evacuating the Queensland coastal city of Rockhampton in darkness amid fears that fast-approaching floodwaters could affect thousands of properties. Rockhampton Mayor Brad Carter said about 20 people had registered at an evacuation centre on Saturday night and rescue crews were continuing to help people leave their homes, some via boats in areas where minor flooding has already struck. "They are actually happening tonight. I hope that not too many people are trying to do this in the dark," he said. Buses are also being used to ferry people north to Central Queensland University's sports centre where the evacuation centre has been set up, catering for 1200. The Fitzroy River, which divides the city, is expected to reach nine metres on Monday, the Bureau of Meteorolgoy predicts, but Mr Carter said it could happen as early as Sunday. "In many ways, it is a disaster of biblical proportions," Queensland State Treasurer Andrew Fraser told reporters in flood-hit Bundaberg. Floodwaters are expected to peak at up to 9.4 metres on Wednesday. "The best way to describe it is a raging torrent of water, it's got a tremendous pace," Mr Carter said of the river. "That water is starting to come up quite high and there has been a significant number of voluntary evacuations in the past couple of days," he told AAP. It is not known how many people have evacuated and may be staying with friends and relatives, Mr Carter said. "It's a painful wait and see, watch the waters rise," he said of the situation. "They are starting to rise in the residential areas with a bit more speed, there will be houses inundated, about 400." Another 4000 properties, including commercial properties and vacant blocks of land, could also be affected. :D :D
  16. Happy 3rd Birthday Mya XXX Hope you had a lovely day girl. And Thank you Teekay for opening your heart and home and letting her be a part of your family. You were in regular contact right from the very start - I knew YOU's were the right home for her. She is very lucky to have such a caring, committed & dedicated family. I cannot thank you guys enough. Please pass on an extra hug or two to Mya today and ofcoarse a big kiss from all of us. XXX I still remember the day I first laid eyes on you Mya. You were so so thin. ;) It was your last day - you were on the next days put to sleep list. I went to the pound to pick up one dog and came home with 2. I couldn't let you die. I also remember when Mr Teekay came to pick you up early that morning. Goodbyes are always hard, but some are harder than others and you were expecially hard to let go of. But I knew you were going to a home where you'd be loved and taken care of for the rest of your life and I couldn't ask for more than that. You so deserved it after the horrible start to life you had. I often think about you girl and whenever Jack see's a white husky he always calls him/her "Mya". Hope you had a lovely Birthday. 22. So she wants to be contacted via Email rather than Facebook. Big deal! Every shelter I know has animals in FOSTER HOMES. It is nothing unusual at all. Hardly "hiding" them The reality is that there are more animals than homes for them so people doing rescue work do their bit to help each other. It seems like this thread is mostly filled with nasty people with no community spirit. The way some of you have responded makes me wonder if you are puppy farmers. You are kidding right? Now that is nasty - accusing rescuers and people who support rescuers of being puppy farmers because we have an opinion. WTF? And I do not agree that there are more animals than there are homes for - there are plenty of good homes out there - it just takes time to find them, unless ofcoarse you're in a race to get them in one door and out the other. And I do have community spirit especially where animal welfare is concerned - that's why this is so upsetting - I am thinking of the many cats and dogs who are left in limbo now - their futures uncertain. Thanks yet again to human negligence. ;)
