  1. Great work Kiwi. What a beautiful story of survival.
  2. I love my huskies and will always have them, but one day I would love an Irish wolfhound and a malamute. ETA: And a German shep too. :D
  3. http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/break...y-avoid-prison/ A man convicted of hanging a cat may have his sentence increased although he could escape having to serve time in jail, a Brisbane court has heard. Russell Hudson, 47, of the Sunshine Coast, pleaded guilty last August to animal cruelty and received a two-month sentence with parole after two weeks. Hudson, who did not appear in court, hanged a neighbour's cat after baiting it with food. He filmed the death on a video camera connected to his home computer. The RSPCA appealed the sentence as inadequate, while Hudson's lawyers argued the penalty was too severe. District Court judge Ian Dearden, who reserved his decision, indicated he had concerns with the sentence handed down by Magistrate Sheryl Cornack. "An adequate sentence of three months with immediate parole would be adequate punishment and act as a deterrent for what is despicable conduct," Judge Dearden told the court. "Two weeks in jail does awful things to people's lives even though we may think they deserve it." Simon Lewis, QC, appearing for Hudson, told the court he believed an increase in the sentence but with immediate parole was satisfactory. "Understanding this is your honour's preliminary view, it would not be one that would cause my client any sense of grief," Mr Lewis said. Scott Lynch, QC, representing the RSPCA, said a four-month sentence was more appropriate. Judge Dearden reserved his decision to a date to be fixed, to be handed down in the Beenleigh Magistrate's Court.
  4. I am so sorry to hear he has cancer CathyM. It's great to hear he is putting on weight though, that has to be a good sign. Thankyou from me too for giving him a loving home to spend out his life. He's probably never had so much love and attention in his life prior to you coming along. Heaps of hugs to you & Mack.
  5. Those poor dogs. I am sorry but what were the chihuahua's owners thinking??? bringing home an unknown dog and putting it with their chi like that. As for the RSPCA - shame on them. Why was the dog NOT properly temp tested with other dogs beforehand?? Talk about poorly handled.
  6. It's a lost and found story with a modern, technological twist. A dog that disappeared in the United States has been reunited with his owner after an 1100km trip - thanks to a microchip. The dog, a two-year-old terrier named Bear, was last seen at the family's Sacramento construction business with his 32-year-old owner Bryan Rapozo. The family had given up hope of finding Bear but then came the phone to say he had been found. The family received a call from the Humane Society in Tacoma, Washington two days after Bear had disappeared saying he had been found in a local neighbourhood. It was the microchip that confirmed his identity. It's unclear how the dog got to Washington State, but the Rapozos think someone snatched him off the street. http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/offbe...-big-adventure/ That he was found and reunited with his owner
  7. Sorry to hear Lilypily. It's scary & heartbreaking having to see them go through seizures. My old Girl Gypz, had a similiar thing happen a several mths ago. I could tell when she was going to go down, she would have a certain look on her face. Her legs would slowly give way on her and she'd sit looking stunned on the floor for a moment or two before getting up and being ok again. It only happened a few times but was very scary. She is 11. Then there is Whitey. He is a husky also, he is 5, going on 6 and since being diagnosed with Immune mediated thrombocytopenia, in Sept last year - has had his fair share of seizures. Thankfully he has been seizure free just over a month now. Goodluck with your girl.
  8. A man and a dog have been hit and killed by a train near Gowrie railway station at Fawkner, in Melbourne's north. Police are at the scene and train services on the Upfield line have been suspended. A police spokesperson at the scene said it was still unclear how the man came to be hit. "At this stage we don't believe the male was using the pedestrian crossing," he said. He believed the man, who was not wearing shoes, may have been trying to retrieve the unleashed dog from the tracks when they were hit by the train about 5.50am. Metro investigators arrived at the scene about 6.30am. The police spokesperson said the driver was "understandably shaken" and Metro had organised counselling for him. Metro says buses are replacing trains on the line until they open again about 8.30am. The death comes just three days after a 70-year-old woman was killed after she stepped around a crossing gate into the path of a train at Bentleigh station. http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/break...illed-by-train/ So sad for both of them. The man lost his life, trying the save the life of a poor, frightened dog. May they both R.I.P.
  9. :p R.I.P. Towser Run free boy Hugs to you at this sad time Esky :D
  10. A light plane carrying two people and a dog has crashed onto a roadway in Sydney's west. Emergency services were called to Brenan Street, Smithfield, at 12:30pm after numerous reports of a plane crashing onto the road. Police arrived at the scene to discover a single-engine aircraft on its roof. A man and a woman, possibly aged in their 20s, travelling in the plane along with a dog were uninjured. The aircraft brought down power lines during the crash causing localised power disruptions. No other vehicles were involved in the incident. Brenan Street is currently closed to all traffic between the Cumberland Highway and Bourke Street. At this stage the cause of the crash is not known and inquiries into the aircraft's departure point and destination are continuing. http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/break...western-sydney/ How lucky are they and how lucky is that dog??? ;) ;)
  11. Reminds me of Hacho too. Poor baby. I hope he is taken in by someone. :D How very sad. :D
  12. We got you from a free to good home ad because Jack needed a friend for his now 4 yr old male guinea pig, Popcorn and I felt sorry for you. Your previous owner lived in an apartment and you never got to see grass or a garden. We bought you home and you and Popcorn hit it off immediately, a little too so at times as you's would give eachother 'piggybacks' (both boys) You had a gorgeous loooooong ginger and white coat and the brightest red eyes. We'd had you well over a year, but today the heat was just too much for you. You were fine when I gave you your icy peas, lettuce, and apple and changed your water this morning. I even used the bottled water from the fridge as it was nice and cold and already so hot outside. Although I sprayed you's gently with cool water throughout the day and had you in your fav. shady spot - it wasn't enough. When I went out to give you's some cold watermelon, I found you - gone, forever. You were called away to a better place. You are the first pet Jack has lost and it made me cry to see him cry. He will miss playing with you and giving you piggy cuddles. He thinks you are up in the stars now running around a big green garden and playing with all the other little guinea pigs up there. I hope you are. Goodbye for now Oscar. R.I.P. little friend. XXX
  13. So sorry to hear Anne. R.I.P. Princess Pru Run free girl
  14. There is a special on this Friday night on Better Homes & Gardens. It is related to the Qld floods and pets reunited with their owners/or owners who chose to stay with their pets?? only caught a glimpse of the ad but looks like something worth watching.
  15. x 2. That's how I feel Ams. I would love just 5 minutes.... :D :D And I am sure we are not the only ones who feel this way. It's unbelievably sickening. :D
  16. As soon as I read the topic 100 huskies slaughtered, I thought what the? If I had not of seen it here, I would of seen it on the yahoo news as it's on there also today. :D I cannot understand how that oxygen thief was compensated. He was the one who killed them. If I had of been in his shoes, I would of SPOKEN UP - ran to the police and every newspaper and television channel to report it. There is no way I could of stood by and let those dogs die, letalone be the one to KILL them. He should be held accountable. What kind of person could go through with something like that???? To think of them all tethered up waiting in line and seeing what was happening before them haunts me. To think what they went through in their final moments rips my heart out. :D :D :D And I agree, I am sure IF they had of tried they could of rehomed them. Such a tragedy. R.I.P. Beautiful ones - you deserved so much better.
  17. ;) Those poor dogs, there is no excuse for that. I hope that guy rots in hell.
