  1. Poor buggers. I feel so sorry for these animals and what they are having to go through. It's so unfair.
  2. Calls for cattle trade to be resumed http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/breaking/9641726/calls-for-cattle-trade-to-resume/ Politicians across the country have called on the federal government to resume live cattle exports as Australia's diplomatic representative in Indonesia tried to talk down the impact of the ban on bilateral relations. Australia's Ambassador to Indonesia Greg Moriarty said even if live exports resumed soon, it would be a "considerable" time before trade could return to pre-suspension levels. But he downplayed the impact of the ban, made in the wake of a report on the ABC's Four Corners program showing mistreatment of cattle in a number of Indonesian abattoirs. "We are very much of the view that this is animal welfare issue. It says nothing about Indonesia more generally," he said in Jakarta. "A number of Indonesian ministers and other senior leaders have made that very clear, that this issue is one that is not about the broader bilateral relationship." The Northern Territory parliament put politics aside to call on the federal government to start sending livestock back to Indonesia as soon as possible. NT Chief Minister Paul Henderson on Wednesday night told parliament the temporary ban on the live cattle trade was a necessary circuit breaker but a prolonged suspension would devastate the economic, social, cultural and environmental fabric of the Northern Territory. He called on parliament to support live export within acceptable animal welfare standards. "(We resolve) to work cooperatively to support the progressive and expeditious accreditation of supply chains into Indonesia ... and the immediate resumption of cattle supply to these supply chains." Speaker of the NT legislative assembly Jane Aagaard recalled parliament at the request of the NT Labor government and the NT Country Liberal opposition. The five part motion, which was drafted in consultation with the NT Cattlemen's Association (NTCA) and passed by the parliament on Wednesday night, came after discussions between NTCA executive director Luke Bowen and Agriculture Minister Joe Ludwig in Canberra. Following the meeting, Mr Bowen told ABC Radio he believed the live trade to Indonesia would resume in a matter of weeks. Veteran coalition MP Bruce Scott, who represents rural Queensland's largest electorate, made a plea to Prime Minister Julia Gillard asking her to resume live cattle exports within weeks. Nationals leader Warren Truss said exports to approved abattoirs could be resumed almost immediately if the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS), which is not compulsory for all cattle stations, was extended to northern Australia. "All we've got to do is put the tags on the animals as they leave the country," he said. The government has suspended for up to six months live cattle exports to Indonesia, pending an independent audit of the supply chain. Labor's caucus has gone further, voting to ban live exports until Indonesia slaughterhouses comply with international standards. Mr Truss said the coalition agreed with the government's initial decision to ban exports to about a dozen abattoirs where Australian cattle were being brutally mistreated. But Mr Truss said government was "dawdling around" a solution to the crisis. "They've changed their minds so many times, no-one knows what's going on." Independent MP Tony Windsor also is keen to see exports resume to approved Indonesian abattoirs. "There should not be re-engagement in my view with those abattoirs that have displayed cruelty to animals but there is quite a number that do have the correct protocols," he said. Labor backbencher Kelvin Thomson said there was much capacity for cattle to be processed in Australian abattoirs. However, with no commercial-scale abattoirs in the NT or northern Western Australia, graziers claim it is not viable to export processed beef products out of northern Australia.

    Jay Jay

Tonight I bought Jay Jay home. (Her ashes). OH offered to go and pick her up but I told him 'no', it was just something I had to do. She is in the wall unit now next to Cass and Claude who I know she'd be running around in heaven with. I miss her dearly, we all do. She's been gone 1 week and 2 days but feels like a lifetime since I saw her last yet at the same time, I remember her just like yesterday. Driving home with the urn by my side I kept looking at the passenger seat and seeing her sitting there just as she had done so days before her death (when I took her to my local vet). She was here one minute, then gone the next. Miss you Jaydey Lady. Forever you'll be in my . XXX

  9. While I am here an update on Luki too. He has been part of our family for just over a year now. (1 year and 3 mths) he has grown into a gorgeous, gorgeous boy. He is so loveable and sleeps at the end of the bed every night and is such a bed hog. He won't move even when you shove your legs under him. He just takes advantage of the situation to use my legs as a pillow. But he keeps me nice and warm. He's suffered no ill effects from the parvo. He's as fit and healthy as the rest of them and has grown into a beautiful boy. He still loves to play fetch and ride the slippery dip. He is a real clown and always has a way of bringing a smile to my face. I am so glad I bought him home that day... Taken a few days back. And these were taken tonight. Luki and his new best buddy, Zuess. We lost Jay Jay last weekend. (my sibe of 10 years ) and Zuess and Jay were really close. He was so sad when she died. Thanks to Luki he has cheered up a bit now. Full house. Luki is in the background there somewhere.
  10. A couple of pics of Logan (aka Boges ) taken tonight. He's put some beef on and is quiet a solid boy now. Awww.. they've both gone shy. He is a good boy and waits for his treats. He is ever so gentle taking them from your hand too.
  11. Hi guys, an update on Jasmine. She has been with us for 1 yr and 9 months now. I cannot believe how fast that time has gone. Her and Jack are still thick as thieves. He adores her. She has really come out of her shell and plays heaps more now. She bolts around 100 mile and hour and also plays with toys, mostly teddy bears. She is such a different dog to what she was when she first came home. Much happier and confident. We were blessed to find such a perfect girl and couldn't imagine life without her. BUSTED Look who I found hiding in the washing the other day... And this from a couple weeks ago. Looking pretty guilty...the both of them. Is that bacon in her mouth? Sure is. With that ga ga look on Jack's face, there is no guessing who gave it to her.

  13. There has been an update on the yahoo link: Government suspends live export to torture abattoirs. http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/breaking/9545951/ludwig-orders-inquiry-into-indon-cattle/
  14. *WARNING: the link has GRAPHIC pics & video*. I did not watch the video. I couldn't. Agriculture Minister Joe Ludwig has ordered an inquiry into the claims of mistreatment of Australian cattle exported to Indonesia. Senator Ludwig said he was shocked by TV footage of mistreatment of these animals, shown on the ABC Four Corners program on Monday night. He said it was clear that industry reforms to animal welfare standards had not gone far enough or been fast enough and much more needed to be done "I have ordered an immediate investigation into the footage by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and have asked them to provide me with all available options in response to the evidence," he said in a statement. On the Four Corners program, film taken by animal welfare activists showed Australian cattle at various Indonesian abattoirs having their throats cut on average 10 times when it should take one stroke, dying prolonged deaths and being beaten and gouged. Animals Australia, the RSPCA, and the Australian Greens and independent MP Andrew Wilkie, are now demanding the government end live cattle exports to Indonesia. Industry body LiveCorp was handed the footage earlier this week and moved immediately to suspend trade to three abattoirs. It has sent training experts to a fourth. "While we face many challenges in improving animal welfare in a developing country ... we've made major progress during the past decade," LiveCorp boss Cameron Hall has said. "No other nation has the same commitment to animal welfare as Australia and no other country invests in animal welfare like we do." The program sparked an immediate response from politicians. Labor backbencher Kelvin Thompson told parliament on Monday he supported a ban of live exports to Indonesia, saying Australia should pursue the chilled meat trade. Fellow Labor MP Janelle Saffin argued the same when she launched a private member's bill back in March. Greens senator Rachel Siewert, who is also drafting up a bill to stop the trade, urged him to immediately cancel export licences, arguing that the draft laws could take months to take effect. "These slaughter practices are very extreme and systematic, they are not isolated incidents," she said in a statement. "This trade simply cannot continue in this fashion." Senator Ludwig said he had directed the Department to implement a moratorium on the installation of any new Mark I restraint boxes, as seen being used on the Four Corners program. He said that would apply to the instalment of any new boxes with Commonwealth funds across global markets. "Further, I have asked the Australian Chief Veterinary Officer to coordinate an independent, scientific assessment of the on-going appropriateness of both the Mark I and Mark IV restraint boxes," he said. Senator Ludwig said he had also requested a thorough briefing on all of the legislative and regulatory responses available to him, including the banning of trade to specific facilities or destinations. "I asked industry at the beginning of this year for proposals on how welfare outcomes could be improved, particularly after animals arrive in importing countries. I am currently considering these proposals," he said. http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/breaking/9545951/ludwig-orders-inquiry-into-indon-cattle/ Disgusting treatment of animals. I hope they put a stop to it.

    Jay Jay

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I am finding it hard to cope atm. I feel angry, sad, lost, and empty.. I went and saw Jay for the last time today, before she is sent off for cremation. I had to say a final goodbye and hold her one last time. I sat and talked to her for a long while. I didn't want to leave her... I took her collar off and a little bit of fur from around her neck, and then did the hardest thing ever - say goodbye... I promised her I would see her again one day. Jay Jay - pictured left - taken a few months ago. She was truly the sweetest girl. I am lost without her and hurting bad... Little Jack misses her too. He asked me before I left for the vet if I could take some photos of her friends up in Heaven. He just wants to know she is not alone and has friends. I assured him she does.

    Jay Jay

R.I.P Jay Jay. Tuesday 8th May 2001 - Sunday 29th May 2011 I love you and miss you and cannot believe you've been taken from me. I am thankful for the 10 years, and 21 days I had you in my life and cannot believe you are gone. I will miss you forever & forever you'll be in my heart. I just wanted you to make it and come home..... I knew it was bad when I had to lift you into the car, any other time you'd leap in. When you got through the surgery I thought and hoped with all my heart you'd make it, but at 11:15pm tonight the phone rang and I knew..... Instead of bringing you home on a lead, you will be coming home in an urn. Never in a million years did I expect this. I feel numb. Like a part of me has died with you. I cannot believe I will never get to look into your warm brown eyes again or see your beautiful smile, but I will always, always remember those things and will always remember you. As I sit here typing, not only is the rain pouring outside but so are my tears... I feel empty and lost without you. It all feels likes a bad dream, like it's not real. Because there was such a rush to get you to the vet, I didn't even get to say a proper goodbye or give you one last cuddle.... I am sorry Jay. I love you girl - I miss you sooo much already. One day I will be with you again. With you, Claude and Cassie. I promise..... Love forever and always. Mummy. XXX

  19. I hate dog fights. And I hate it when one dog attacks another that is clearly trying to get away and isn't fighting back. IMO the staffy/his coward owners are at fault. Fancy doing the bolt like that... Poor husky getting barged like that to begin with. Staffies are solid little buggers, usually - that would of been a shock in itself for the husky. No wonder he growled. The staffy should of known at that point to back off instead of going in for the kill. I agree that the staffy's owner should of kept the staffy on a lead until they had sussed the park out and let him settle a little as opposed to just letting him off to charge off like that. Although by the sounds of things, of the nature of this staffy - it would of only taken one 'wrong' look from the husky to set him off anyways... Glad to hear the husky is ok.
