Found A Sick Little Kitty Tonight.
k9angel replied to k9angel's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
It's always been that way PS, my whole life. Doesn't matter what house I have lived in or where it has been, I have been a magnet to the sick, injured or stray. I cannot explain it. I acted all excited when I told Jack that the Mumma cat came to the door this morning and was meowing so loud that she woke me up. I told him she was there with Lucky's 2 brothers and sister and that they were missing Lucky so I had to let him go with them. He was happy with that and every now and then goes to the bedroom window to see if he can see them in the garden. I hate lying to him but he has experienced enough loss. More than most kids his age. Thankfully I was able to spare him the pain this time. -

Found A Sick Little Kitty Tonight.

Little Lucky made it through the night but passed this morning. I set my alarm and got up throughout the night to give him fluids and change his hot water bottle. I knew at the 5.40am feed that he wouldn't make it. I changed his hot water bottle and placed him on it. I told him to rest now baby. When I came back for the next feed, he was gone. R.I.P. He was such a sweet little thing. He loved his ears being rubbed, he'd tilt his head side to side and closed his eyes as he lapped it up. He made the tiniest little meow too when I saw him for the last time. He looked at with his one eye open and meowed. I am glad he got a decent feed (probably the only proper meal he'd ever eaten), I am glad he got to feel love before he left and I am glad he died with a name. I will tell Jack that his Mother came to the door meowing, so I had to let him go back with her. I couldn't tell him the truth, it would break his little heart. Taken just after midnight when he'd had a feed, a hot water bottle change and after I'd cleaned his eye again. R.I.P. Lucky. xxx -
Just before dark I heard these minor birds screeching away outside and thought they may of been attacking a blue tongue so went to investigate. What I found instead was a tiny little kitten at the front of my house trying to get away from the birds. He didn't have much energy though and struggled to walk letalone run away. I approached him (or her?) he was too weak to resist so I picked him up easily. I bought him inside and he managed to eat some sardines. He is all skin and bone and was badly dehydrated. I have been giving him hydralite and also kitten milk in little amounts but regulary. I am not sure if he will survive the night to be honest. One of his eye's is gunky but I have been wiping it down. He is touch and go atm. I feel so helpless. Earlier on Jack dissapeared into the bedroom and returned with his panda teddy bear. He offered it to the kitty as a subsitute Mum. then he got all upset and worried that his Mum was out there somewhere looking for him. I went out and searched the front yard for more kittens or a Mumma cat but there were none. Only him. OH has called him "Lucky". I am afraid he needs all the luck he can get atm. Just look at him.

http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/latest/12525381/cats-could-pass-on-hendra-says-chief-vet/ Domestic cats have the potential to contract the fatal Hendra virus and pass it to humans, Queensland's chief veterinary officer says. Dr Rick Symons says studies are being done to better understand how Hendra spreads, its effects on family pets and how dogs and cats can pass the virus to humans. "The limited information we have is that it doesn't seem to affect the dogs," Dr Symons told AAP. "Cats can certainly get it and spread it. "There is work on other species. "Ferrets can get it and other animals can get the virus." Hendra is just one of a number of deadly bat-borne diseases that have claimed more 1000 lives in just over a decade. Scientists have linked the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), which caused more than 900 deaths, and Nipah virus, which has claimed more than 100 lives, to bats. Scientists report SARS was carried by bats and most likely passed on to civets which were eaten by humans. Mr Symons acknowledged the similarity between the way Nipah virus was initially spread by sick pigs to humans, and how Hendra has spread from sick horses to humans. Even though Hendra has claimed four lives in Australia, he said the virus was now being managed far more effectively than in the past and culling flying foxes was unnecessary. "They (flying foxes) do carry diseases that can kill people, but it's about not getting rid of bats, it's about managing the issue," Dr Symons said. "Humans carry diseases around all the time. We don't cull them because they carry diseases. "Dogs and cats carry diseases that can kill humans, but we don't cull them." Federal independent MP Bob Katter wants to give every Queenslander the right to kill or remove deadly animals, in particular flying foxes, from their property. The Katter's Australian Party leader announced the policy at a Gold Coast home that has been at the front line of Queensland's undeclared war on bats. Mr Katter referred to scientific reports that have linked bats to the origin of SARS, Leptospirosis and Nipah virus. "We will provide every landowner with the right to have control over his backyard," he told reporters. "So if he decides to remove a deadly animal, like this bat up here, or a snake, it's his backyard, not the crown's." He said flying fox numbers should be cut back to pre-European settlement numbers as they were wildly out of control. A Townsville vet is one of 10 people being tested for Hendra following the latest outbreak of the disease on Tuesday. The virus killed a horse on a property south of Townsville, which has now been quarantined. Queensland Environment Minister Vicky Darling said culling flying foxes would have a devastating effect on the environment. "Councils across the state have approval to manage flying foxes and my department has issued damage mitigation permits to four councils last year alone," Ms Darling said. "A cull would raise significant public safety and animal welfare issues, would be grossly irresponsible and quite honestly, would not work."

Greyhound Missing In Fairfield Area (sydney)
k9angel replied to nswgrey's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Fairfield is the next suburb from me. I will keep an eye and ear out for him. -
I have found 3 of Takoda's. I almost lost one when it with the vacuum cleaner. I didn't realise until it was too late and it had gone up the chute. I found it though after fishing through all the dog hair & dust. The other 2 I found on the bed. Don't know where the rest ended up. Probably in her belly. Either that or they have their own tooth fairy.

They've started around here already too and it's still daylight. It usually gets pretty bad around here NYE. Thankfully all of my dogs are fine, bar one. I feel sorry for the many dogs out there that will try and do the bolt tonight.

So glad all went well today for Ellie. Cannot wait for pics. ;) I wanted to sneak over and say goodbye to her this morning but I am not good at Goodbyes at the best of times and didn't want her to worry if she saw me get a little teary, which I would of. I am so happy for her. So is Jack. I had to tell him the good news too. She wouldn't know herself having so much freedom. A huge Thanks to you Dogmad and everyone else who helped Ellie along the way. Happy New year to you all and Happy New year Ellie girl. xxx

Who knows. It makes me so mad. These days a dog only has to look at someone the wrong way and they lose their life, yet people can do whatever they want to dogs and get away with it. Where's the fairness in that? We are all living beings.

Dog Bite Wounds And Scabs And Scars On Humans
k9angel replied to Katdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
OH had a red itchy lump thingy on his elbow (not from a dog bite) but it was there for weeks and he kept complaining about it. (as men do ), anyways he put some pawpaw ointment on it and within a week it was barely visible and had just about gone. It healed up lovely. I also use it for my zinc deficient sibe. For his dry pads, dry skin on his nose and for the hot-spot type rashes he had under the creases of his back legs. The difference it has made is incredible. I tried powder and antiseptic cream for the rashes in his leg creases but nothing worked. After applying the paw paw cream once a day, it started to heal and is almost gone altogether now. (the rash under one leg was approx 15cm in diameter, the other about 5cm ) not anymore. A fellow DOLer (Marion01) recommended it to me and now I swear by it. You should be able to get it from your local chemist. It's in a red tube and is called Lucas' pawpaw ointment. -
I know. I felt awful having to put that rope back on her. It's heartbreaking. I think that's part of the reason Jack got so upset too. He asked me why she lives like that. It was unusual for M not to be home today, as she is usually there. I knew though that if she had of come home and saw Ellie missing, she would of saw her Xmas pressies there and also my car out the front, so would of known she was safe. I took the harness with me (your one T) as I was going to leave it with M, but didn't leave it there with her not being home.

Doing a dance for Ellie. Ellie's not the least bit interested. Proud as punch again. Back at home. I love this pic. Look at their smiles. Jack and Ellie both know our visit is nearly over. Look at his little face. And Ellies. Putting on a brave face. Ellie was very gentle taking the chicken necks from him and was not at all protective of them. She wasn't at all fussed. I think she was just happy to have some company. This pic makes me sad too. Jack knows we are going soon.

Fingers crossed for Ellie. We not long got back from walking her. I took Jack with me for the first time. She loved him and he loved her. We gave her her late Xmas presents (a toy and some dried chicken necks) which she loved and took her for a walk around the block. I wanted to see how she'd go with Jack and she done really really well. When we got back to the house (M wasn't home) Ellie was so reluctant to go back down the driveway. Jack got teary too towards the end (as you'll see in the pics I upload shortly) he is sad that we have to leave her there and so badly wants to bring her home. Driving home he says to me "Mummy we should get lots of dogs like that and not find them homes". (in other words keep them, Dog love him ). He cannot wait to go back to see her again. Some more pics to come. I am just uploading them onto flickr. (it was at Jacks request that most of these pics were taken. We took 50 odd. Obviously I can't upload them all here. We had to stop every 5 mins so he could pose. ). Her present wrapped. Her tail was going 100 mile an hour. And unwrapped. He's won her heart for sure now with some dried chicken necks. They were wrapped in nice blue paper but Jack got carried away and ripped it open for her. She knows there is something tasty in there, look at her licking her lips... Presents & introductions are done. Time for a walk. Love this one. Look how proud Jack is. Anyone would think she was his dog. Jack trying to scam another pic. He's pointing to where he wants to sit. He wins. more to come.

She has got bail. http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/latest/12468897/bail-for-accused-nsw-puppy-thrower/ A Sydney woman accused of throwing her puppy out of a window onto a cement driveway 15 metres below has been granted bail. Lily Maihi, 24, of Kingswood is charged with torturing, beating or seriously injuring an animal after allegedly throwing the eight-month-old puppy out of her window following a heated argument with her partner. She appeared in Parramatta Local Court on Thursday via video link where her lawyer successfully applied for bail, although the Crown opposed it. The police prosecutor described the facts as very disturbing and said there had been a level of premeditation, in that Maihi's argument with her partner was about dog faeces on the balcony. The prosecutor said the puppy was unable to move when it hit the ground and required surgery for his injuries. Her lawyer said the fact that the victim of the crime was a puppy had aroused "perhaps in all of us, certain emotional responses". In granting bail, Magistrate Andrew George said there was no question that this was a particularly unpleasant case. "The community would be horrified by the allegations that have been made," he said. But he stressed that this was a bail application, which is not considered on the basis of how horrible an offence might be, and regardless of how many pictures of "doey-eyed puppies" were presented to the court. He ordered Maihi to report daily to police, to reside at her Kingswood flat and not to attempt to own any animal. He adjourned the case to Penrith Local Court on January 18

He is isn't it? I just saw him on the tele now. He is so adorable. Despite his legs being bandaged/plastered he was still there wagging away. He looks so much happier than what he did in those first pics. Dog knows what that poor little guy went through prior to being thrown from that window. She is in court at the moment at Parramatta. she doesn't get out on bail and they keep her in custody. I hope she does get the 2 yrs (+ preferably) and I hope she gets a lifetime of bad karma.
