I Am Scratching My Ear .......i Am A Baaaad Girl.......

She's gorgeous Pers. -
I just took these pics of Codes sleeping on the floor near my feet. She often sleeps on her back like this. I told the vet nurse Sunday morning when I visited her that Takoda likes to sleep on her back. Her reply, "I know. She gave me a fright yesterday when I came in and found her flat on her back up against the (crate) wall".  She slept like a log last night, all snuggled up next to me.

Takoda's home! I picked her up earlier tonight. :) When the vet nurse first bought her into the waiting room she didn't know what was going on, but then she spotted me and the look on her face was priceless. :) She even stood up on me for cuddles! She was excited the whole trip home and when we got to the front gate and she could hear the kids, she couldn't wait to get inside to see them. She didn't have to wait long though because as soon as they heard the front gate open, both boys came running out to greet her! :) Her PCV levels are down to 50% now and the bloody diarrhea has stopped. She's also eating well. She's sleeping at my feet as I type. Every now and then she wakes up and looks up at me to make sure I am still here before nodding back off to sleep. It's so good to have her home. It's amazing the difference a day makes... again to everyone who posted their well wishes, good vibes and their own experiences with HGE. xx

Thankyou again everyone for your well wishes and good vibes. Takoda should be able to come home tonight! I spoke to her vet this morning and he was telling me how the vet nurse who was on last night didn't close her crate door properly so as soon as she left, Cody opened the door and helped herself out! the vet said there were no bloody poo's to be seen and she didn't destroy anything. When the vet nurse arrived this morning, she was just sitting at the door with the littlies who are currently living there (awaiting homes) waiting patiently to be let out. :) (He has his consult and waiting room upstairs and down the back there is another big brick building where he does surgeries and where the patients and boarders stay. This is the part Cody is in). I cannot tell you how relieved I am. :) These past few days have been awful, especially Saturday when she was at her worst. I was so scared we were going to lose her. I am very grateful to my vet and his nurses, especially Sarah who spent a good part of Saturday night with Takoda, for getting her though this. As mentioned earlier, he isn't a 24hr hour vet but he ended up spending most of the weekend at the surgery ensuring Takoda was getting the care she needed.

Update on Takoda. :) When I spoke to the vet at 8.30pm last night there had been no change. Because she had somehow managed to pull the catheter out of her front leg again, they ended up putting it into her back leg. The vet went home for a couple hours sleep (he's not a 24hr vet and actually closes at 1pm Saturdays) and called back at 12.20am saying he was on his way back to the surgery. He said he'd call back once he had checked on her. He called back just before 1am. He said she was looking a little brighter eyed. She had kept the drip in and although she had done a clear vomit, there were no bloody poo's. He checked her temp and it was normal and he also said the thermometer was clean after he checked. (no blood) This morning he checked her PCV levels again and they were down to 52%. There were no bloody poo's in her cage but she did do a couple when she was taken outside for a walk around. She's still on the drip but they've turned it down now, from 1 drop per second to 1 drop per 3 seconds. She also drank some water last night and this morning while I was there. I spoke to the vet again tonight and although she did a couple of runny poo's this afternoon, they are slowly starting to change colour and aren't as bloody. He's doing another PCV in the morning so fingers crossed. A couple of pics I took this morning when I visited her. It was so good to see her and she was happy to see me too. :) It was sad when I had to leave though, she pricked her ears and sat up thinking she was coming home too. Hopefully tommorow. Although she was still a little too sick to get up to greet me, she still came to the front of the cage to say hello. I opened the door so I could be closer to her.

Thanks again everyone for your kind words, support and for sharing your own experiences with HGE. I spoke to the vet at 5.30pm and again at 6.30. She was about the same. She keeps pulling her drip out though which worries me as she really needs it. The vet told me to call back at 8.30pm for another update.

Thankyou everyone. I have spoken to the vet and her PCV levels are higher than normal. (60) He has her on a drip and is going to give me a call this afternoon to let me know how she is going.

Takoda is at the vets today having blood tests. Woke up this morning to a house full of bloody poo's and vomit so I took her straight to the vet. She even had blood dripping from her back side. Vet suspects Hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. (HGE). I am just waiting to hear back from him with the results of the tests. She was fine yesterday and fine last night before bed. We watched a movie together and she was her normal happy self. I feel sick to the stomach with worry. Please keep Cody in your thoughts and prays and keep everything crossed for her. TIA. Rach

FIRST ON 7: A Gold Coast family pet has been credited for protecting three young children from a deadly Eastern Brown snake. One-year-old Staffordshire Terrier Jeff came close to death after being bitten on the nose. On Wednesday morning he took on the second most venomous snake in the world, killing it in the vegetable garden but the Eastern Brown got a bite in too. "He was just laying there and the snake was right beside him and I'm guessing he just got hit," the dog’s owner Michael Moskwa said. A vet gave Jeff three shots of anti-venom, warning family it probably wouldn't work. "We didn't think we would bring him home so we were telling the kids that he may not come home," Tammy Moskwa said. "We felt really lucky, we feel like he's meant to be here to be our protector." The veggie garden is where eight-year-old Mackenzie and his younger brothers Nate and Billy often play before breakfast. Snake catcher Tony Harrison says the eastern brown snakes are one of the most deadly in the world, and are renowned for having a bad temper. "One drop of venom has enough power to take out 16 healthy adults, so one bite can take out 100 people,” he said. Mr Harrison has been catching snakes for 19 years. He says this past winter was his busiest ever. And right now across south east Queensland, snakes are on the move. "As soon as the weather gets above 23 degrees that induces the females to ovulate and it's kind of like dogs on heat and the boys just go travelling looking for the female and that's why all the human encounters are happening at the moment," he said. http://au.news.yahoo.com/queensland/a/-/newshome/18915543/dog-protects-kids-by-fighting-off-snake/

Rip Joey Our Sweet Little Man 4th Sept 2013

Ofcoarse I am. :) I can't wait to get started. And no need to pay for the Birthday cake treats Jules. They'll be a gift to Miah from us. Just last week I sent some personalised bones (first time posting them) to VIC and they held up fine. I do pack them well though. (seperately inside ziplock bags and then inside plastic containers so they don't get crushed or broken in transit). I think it's a lovely idea putting on a little party for Miah and her friends and I am sure she'll love it. :) -
