Thanks for your kind words everyone. It was not only 8 months since I lost Gyps yesterday, but was also 2 weeks to the day that we lost Tess. I lit a candle last night for the both of them and tried to watch the video I made of Gyps. I only got 1 minute, 20 seconds in to it (it goes for 4 mins and 55 seconds) and I had to turn it off. I just wanted to watch it to see her again but couldn't... not yet anyways, it still hurts too much.

Four endangered white rhinoceroses have died from a mystery illness at the Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo. It is understood each of the rhinos exhibited signs of stumbling before they died. Zoo vets are liaising with specialists in Africa and North America and a number of tests have been carried out to work out what has caused the deaths. The three remaining rhinos from the herd have been put into quarantine and are being monitored for signs of illness. One of the dead animals is Amira, a calf which was hand-raised by zoo keepers. A spokeswoman for the zoo says no other animals at the park, including the black rhinoceroses, have been affected. http://au.news.yahoo.com/nsw/latest/a/-/latest/13222163/zoo-investigates-mystery-rhino-deaths/ How sad. R.I.P. rhinos.

It's been 8 months today Gyps, almost to the minute. (You passed in my arms at 11:55pm). I have a candle burning for you tonight girl. I still miss you more than ever. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you. xxx R.I.P. Gypi girl.

Love it!

That was a beautiful tribute. R.I.P. Thea. Run young & free again girl xxx.

Sorry no advice but at least you got her straight to the vet. Fingers crossed all turns out well. Just the other morning I spotted a dead rat on the corner of our street that had been hit by a car. You could see it's stomach contents (sorry if TMI) and it was full of green rat poison.

He's gorgeous Kja.

It was no trouble at all Baifra. I am sorry it made you cry. It made me cry writing it. Although I didn't know Rusty, it's clear to see she was one special girl. I know it may not seem like it now, but in time you will be able to think of her and smile again. Take care. xxx

So sorry to hear about little Digby. My thoughts are with you and the family who adopted him, how heartbreaking. R.I.P. Digby xxx

I am so sorry Baifra. It's never easy. My thoughts are with you at this sad time. R.I.P. gorgeous Rusty Run young and free again and shine bright from that star. xxx I hope you don't mind, but I wrote you a little poem. If you look upon that star You will see me shining from afar, Watching down and guiding you Don't be sad, please don't feel blue. I will run and roll in fields of green And eat the biggest pork chews you've ever seen, The sky will be dotted with diamond stars Some blue, some green, some red like mars. Remember all the times that we shared When smiles were had and tears were spared, I will still wait for you, but at a different door One day you will walk through, of that I am sure.

Sorry to hear that Tunagirll. I agree, it's very poor form. I understand we get busy at times but to not reply is just rude. I can only imagine how frustrated you'd be and hope you get an answer soon.

I've been on flickr for ages Pers. :) That's how I upload my pics to DOL. ;) And thankyou for the link. I saved a DPS page to my fav. bar this morning after Kirislin mentioned rule of thirds but will be reading the link you posted too. :) This is the other link I've saved to read through later. http://www.digital-photography-school.com/rule-of-thirds

Thanks for the tips guys. And thankyou for the link Kirislin. I also agree that the original pic of the wren is nicer than the heavily cropped one. :)

I discovered 'cropping' today. :) well I knew what it was (thanks to my banner maker  ) but hadn't tried it with my pics until today. Wow, it's incredible what you can do with them... :) Here's a closer up of the bird I managed to snap yesterday in the garden. A couple more And a lonely dove sitting in the way of a pretty rainbow this afternoon.

Love the proud face in the last pic.

Ta Linda K. I look forward to experimenting with it. :)

Ta Marion, and no it's not a miniature rose. It's full size. :)

Thanks heaps guys. And yes I noticed that Kja when I tried to get a close up of a rose. I had to switch back to the standard lense as the 300mm wouldn't focus in on it at close range. :) ETA the rose in question. I did post in the wildlife thread but had to share here too. I just love the colours of it.

I need some advice please regarding lenses. So far I have only been using the kit lens that came with my canon camera but today I was game and got out the other lense. The 75mm-300mm lense, the heavy one. I just want to double check, is this lense used for close up photos of objects far away like aeroplanes and birds in the distance etc? I took this one earlier today with the 75mm-300mm. I feel silly and a little embarrassed asking questions like this but I am really keen to learn the differences between the two so if someone could please explain it to me in simple, english terms  it would be much appreciated. :) Thanks in advance. :)
