I am not sure melcatlady but I am pretty sure the vet will give a discount with her being a stray. I think he charged about $200 when I had Tess's xrays done a few months ago but that was without a discount as she was Mums dog. I am going to try and get her in early next week to be done. I need to know for sure if she has a broken back or whether it is something that can be fixed and I especially need to know before I make the decision to set her free. I wouldn't live with myself otherwise. At least if I know for sure she does have a broken back, I will know I tried my best. She's in the loungeroom at the moment perched up in her basket. I don't have any cat toys so made her one today. You would of seen it in the video. A bit of string with a tissue tied to the end of it. She thinks it's great. I will get her some proper toys when I go to the shops next. She is such a gorgeous little girl, I just hope she gets better and gets to live a long, happy life.

I hope so T. And I love that pic too. When I saw them laying together on the floor infront of the heater last night, I had to get the camera. It was just so sweet. She's so loving and just loves being around people. She's quiet a talker to. If you say something to her she always answers back. :)

She's doing well. She's happy and seems content. She was suppose to go back to the vet yesterday if there was no improvement, to be given her wings. When I was doing some gentle leg exercises with her earlier today, she put her claws out on her back feet. She hasn't done that before so I am hoping it's a good sign. A couple of video's I have put together in the past 4 days. Sorry about the songs, they're a bit sad.

No there's no obvious deviation Panto, and I've checked 1000 times aswell. She was very malnourished but has started to gain a little weight now and seems to be getting stronger by the day. She's also alot brighter eyed, and I think we may of been lucky with the cat flu as she seems to be almost over it. Oh and every morning and afternoon I see that shopping trolley still sitting by the side of the road. I think how lucky she was Mum went past when she did because if she hadn't of spotted her when she did, Cookie would be laying in it dead now. She would of died alone in the cold, with no name and never knowing love.

Update on Cookie; She continues to do well in regards to her eating, drinking, toileting. :) This morning after she had her brekky she tried to get up on her all fours. I noticed this time though, her back legs were moving, they just didn't have the strength to support her - whereas before when she'd try to get up they were just floppy.
-
They did. :) At first Alaska wouldn't come out of the kennel because there were 3 strange people standing at the gate but as soon as I took Jaz in on the lead, she came running out of the kennel to greet her and was all of a sudden alot braver and not so shy. She becomes alot more confident with her Mum around. The other day when I was walking her though, this guy was approaching from the opposite direction. He stopped and held out his hand to pat her and for the first time ever she walked forward, tail wagging, ready to get a pat. I was so proud of her. There was a time when she'd sh!t herself in that situation and hide behind me.

She just stretched her legs again and did a little poo. I was starting to worry as she hadn't done one all day and she's eaten a fair bit. It was a healthy looking one too. I never thought I'd see the day I'd be excited over a cat poo, but I am today. :)

Aww ta T. :) And yes I am very proud of my boys. Both have turned out very compassionate & caring animal lovers. A quick update on Cookie while I am here, she just had some yummy bbq'd lamb cutlets for dinner, cut up very small and off the bone ofcoarse and OMG, did she go berko for it!

Guess who's come back for a 6 weeks holiday? Alaska's Mum, "Jasmine". Many of you probably remember Jaz. :) http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/190352-wanted-foster-carer-or-rescue-for-huskies-x-3/page__st__165__p__5401168__hl__huskies__fromsearch__1#entry5401168 She seemed quiet happy to see Alaska and Alaska well, she thinks all her Christmas's have come at once and is so happy to see her Mum. :) I took care re-introducing them as it's been a long while since they've seen eachother but all went well. A bit of bum sniffing, a wee here and there and they were acquainted again. Jasmine's owners have gone on a 6 week cruise and I was only too happy to mind Jaz for them. :) She's 11 yrs old now and still as sweet as the day she left. Little Jack was so excited when I told him she was here when I picked him up from school and even more happier, when he saw her at the gate waiting. :) Kisses

Taken yesterday afternoon. You can see how skinny she is. Taken today You can see her left eye is still a little gunky. I have been bathing it. Jasmine is quiet concerned for Cookie and will often sit close by or pop her head in the basket to make sure she's ok.
-
I will make that decision if need be Redangel and will do right by her. On a brighter note, Mum just dropped in and saw Cookie for the first time since the other night. She couldn't believe the difference and also, while Mum was here, Cookie stretched out her back legs for the first time since she's been here. I hadn't seen her do that before.

She's about the same as far as her legs are concerned, though they did feel like they had a little bit more spring in them when I held her body with one hand and sat her back feet on my other hand. I'll try them again shortly. Last night she had a bit of a runny nose and gunky eye but this morning seems alot better. The last thing she needs is the cat flu. She's eaten well, had plenty of milk and water, done a few wee's but hasn't done a no. 2 yet today. She's in good spirits and bright eyed though. She was purring so loudly when she was getting her ear rubs at 3 this morning and rubbing her little head into my hand. I got up again every 2 hours last night (I set my alarm) to change her hot water bottle and to give her a drink. She was pleased to see me each time. Eta pics to come in a minute. I meant to upload some last night.

Thanks T, re; the physio suggestion. It doesn't hurt her to move her back legs, so I will give it a try. And speaking of hands on healing, I did that the night I bought her home. She was really bad. She was so close to death I am amazed she's still with us. Mum even had newspaper ready to wrap her and bury her in the garden. I ran my hands over her little body willing her with all my might, to pull through. It was the weirdest feeling, hard to explain but it was as though it was just me and the kitten in the room and nothing and no else, despite all the commotion going on in the background.

She's done a few little wee's and 2 poops since she's been here Rozzie. I've been keeping an eye on that too.
-
The reason he said to give her 48hrs was because I had seen some improvement in her today (trying to get up on her own and gone from just laying on her side to sitting upright on her belly). If she had of been the same as what she was last night, we would of given her her wings today. Maybe by some miracle she will improve more tommorow, or maybe she won't, only time will tell. Some new pics to come shortly.

That was one of the first questions I asked her when she told me about the kitten. I was so angry with her. I asked her why she didn't pick her up and why she just left her there? She said she could barely look at her letalone touch her and that's why she came and told me. She saw that the kitten was wet and thought it was blood. (I feared the same when I first saw her and saw she was wet, it was too dark to see whether the wetness was blood or water). Mum freaked out a bit I think and didn't know what to do.

Sorry for delay updating. Weve been to the vet earlier today. It's not good news I am afraid. The vet seems to think she (yes she is a she, I discovered that this morning when I checked properly), may have a broken back. I explained how she seems to be getting stronger on her back legs and trying to stand on them (caught her today trying to get up) which she wasn't doing before, and he said to wait and see if there's any more improvement in the next 48hrs. I did ask about xrays but he said there wasn't much point as there wasn't much they could do for her. If she's no better by the 48hrs or if she goes downhill beforehand, I'll be taking her back and giving her her wings. She's eaten lots today and has continued to drink well. She looks 100% to what she did last night and seems happy despite her obvious injury. I even caught her playing today as she lay in her bed. She's lapping up all this attention. She's a real little sweety, it's such a shame and so heartbreaking. I take comfort in knowing she had some love at least, before she leaves this world. Oh and we named her "Cookie". I am still keeping everything crossed and hoping & praying for a miracle, but at the same time, I know her chances are slim, or as the vet put it "Grim". Thanks again for all the well wishes guys, we can only hope for a miracle.

Thanks for all the well wishes guys. I have been in ctc with the vet, and I am taking him in as soon as he (the vet) is out of surgery. I am hoping there is hope for this little guy. He's drinking fine but wouldn't eat the salmon I offered, despite seeming interested in it. Mum is dropping in some proper kitten food and some more kitten milk, so fingers X'd he eats some of that. I have also given him a little dab of nutrigel. He's very talkative and has been chatting away to Bailey and vice versa. Then Bailey got his nintendo DS cat game out and showed the kitten. It was so sweet. I'll update as soon as we're back from the vet.

He made it through the night ok. I got up every 2 hours to change his hot water bottle and feed him. He's quiet thin. He did a poo and it was mostly grass in it. He would of been a feral, there's alot around here, esp where he was found, but he's pretty much tame now and was even purring when I changed his bottle and fed him last. He's such a loving little boy, despite what he's been through. Dogmad, I will clear my inbox, it's probably full and I will give you a call, I just have to find your no. first.
-
No he wasn't my regular vet Redangel but he knew me, I had been there before. I just changed his hot water bottle again and gave him some more milk, he is drinking well. He hissed at me at first but is coming to realise I am not here to hurt him. He loves pats around his ears and falls asleep when I am giving them to him. I think the damage might be in his back. When I was changing his hot water bottle I noticed he tried to get up and run and although the front legs were working ok, the back weren't. Much like my sibe girl Gypsy was when she crushed a disc in her spine and she was paralyzed from the waist down. The only difference is Gyps had no movement at all in her legs and tail and no reflexes whereas this little guy does??? (Gyps did get better & was able to walk again after months of rehab). I am not saying it's the same as Gyps had, but I do feel it's his back. Fingers crossed he gets through tonight ok so I can get him to the vet in the morning.

If he was in shock wouldnt it be better to get some electrolytes & medication into him to combat it? If he was HBC surely hed need medical attention? Good on you for taking him, I just was a bit concerned you didnt seek medical evaluation. I am doing the best with what I have atm Redangel. I am giving him electrolytes (in the milk I just gave him I added hydralite) and keeping him warm. There is an after hours vet around here Rozzie but the last time I called for an after hours emergency, he was half asleep and refused to attend the clinic to help me. And that was for one of my own dogs. The only other one is the animal referral hospital at Homebush. And I wouldn't trust my car atm to get me there. If it was only me, fair enough - but I have 2 young kids to consider too, the last thing I want is to break down by the side of the ride with a sick kitten and 2 kids, in the freezing cold. And to be honest I didn't expect the kitten to last half an hour letalone the trip to Homebush, when I first bought him home. Keeping everything crossed now he makes it through the night.

When he first came in, after being towel dried. I somehow think that stimulated him back to life, that and warming him up. He was icy cold. But as you can see, he was bad. I also think Bailey had something to do with it believe it or not. He just loves cats and was talking to him. The kitten would open his eye's listening to his every word. The latest pics - taken about 20 mins ago. Looking a little brighter eyed. I just went in and gave some more milk and he readily lapped it from the syringe. He seems comfortable and is nice and warm. Oh and he even gave a little hiss at me. I am not getting my hopes up but he is looking better to what he was. (that's if he is a he, I have a proper chance to check).
-
He is in a bad way. He was on deaths door when I picked him up and bought him home and making these horrible gasping sounds. His little body was lifeless and floppy. I got the towel and dried him gently. He was drenched beyond drenched. My first impression was that someone had tried to drown him. It's freezing out there too tonight, he wouldn't of lasted much longer had Mum not seen him. I have set him up in a washing basket with some bedding and a hot water bottle (wrapped) and I will keep the liquids up to him, there's not much more I can do for him. I just get so mad that someone could do that. Seriously how do they sleep at night? Some pics to come. Eta spelling

Some people are just so heartless. Mum dropped in about an hour and a half ago and told me about a little kitten laying in a shopping trolley, barely moving. I rushed to where she said he was and OMG, the poor little thing was drenched and gasping for breath. I bought him home as he was freezing cold (and I mean freezing) and warmed him up and dried him. When I first picked him up I didn't know if he was drenched with blood or water. I couldn't see properly because it was pretty dark. I just scopped him up, put him in the car and drove home. (he was only around the cnr from me). I doubt very much he is going to make it. He is trying so hard and has even managed a little meow and lifted his head to look at me. But he's in a bad way. He was drenched when I found him, and has a little mark near his neck where a dog may of attacked him?, but he was deliberately left in that shopping trolley by someone and left to die a slow death in the cold. The way his little eye's look at me. I have syringe fed him some milk and also a little water with sugar as he's pretty dehrydrated. (and I cannot find the hydralite in the chest freezer, it's probably right at the bottom, I'll attempt to find it again in a min). I have him wrapped up in a towel near the heater (not too close). At least he is not going to die alone and cold. But seriously, how could anyone do that? I am so sick of picking up the peices of these heartless dropkicks, but I am glad Mum told me when she did - because no animal deserves to die like that.
