  1. Thanks heaps for the replies everyone. I have decided to give the Blackmores paws Osteocare a try first. I am going to start 3 of my own dogs up on it too. (one's 7 yrs old, one's 10 and the other is 9). I'll update in a few weeks time on whether I have seen any improvement with Jasmine's back legs. (She's not crippled or anything - just a little slow to get up on her back legs sometimes). I will definately notice any improvement if we see any though.
  2. Awww... I have something in my eye. Imagine how relieved she'd be feeling being out of the pound. She looks so comfy in that pic. Good on you Panto and friend and also to Cheryl for giving this sweet girl a loving home to live out her life.
  3. Mine are fed mostly raw chicken, lamb and beef. Not all in one feed, some days they have chicken wings, other days lamb offcuts or beef bones. They're not overly keen on dry except for Takoda, who loves her Supercoat. Aswell as their normal tucker, they get huge bones (my Son Jack, calls them dinosaur legs  ) just to knaw on, once or twice a week. I give them sardines occassionally and make them homemade treats (biscuits) - but they don't get them all the time, just occassionally. They also get dinner scraps. (vege's, pasta, rice, meat with no bones etc). In the cooler months I'll boil up huge pots of chicken broth (no bones) or mince with vege's and rice and add a little garlic to it. They love it. They're happy, healthy and of a normal weight. :) A pic of Takoda taken the other night with a 'dinosaur' leg.
  4. Hi Guys, I am looking for a glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM supplement for an 11 yr old sibe (ex rescue who is staying with us while her owners are OS - and yes, they do approve of me putting her on a supplement :) ). I notice when she's getting up she's a bit stiff on her back legs. (athritis). Especially when it's cold. I am looking at these 3 (see links below) and hoping to get some feedback from those of you who have used any of these products and what success you've had. Blackmores paws osteocare http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=221004625254&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en Joint guard http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/160780535477?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 Or this human grade one made by herbs of gold http://www.vitaminking.com.au/joint-support-health-supplements-glucosamine-chondroitin-msm-by-herbs-of-gold.html I am thinking I am going to go with the Paws one, but just wanted to see what other's thought first, especially those that have used it. Oh and for those that do use a human grade gluc/chond/MSM supplement - which one do you use? Thanks in advance. :)
  5. You gave Bonnie the best life Judy. I truly believe the love and care you gave her, was the reason she survived much longer than expected. Although I never had the honour of meeting Bon Bon, I felt like I did know her and was so very sad when I found out she had crossed the bridge. Huge hugs to you and the pack. I can only imagine how much you's all miss her. And please if you need anything, someone to talk to or even just to cry, you know where I am. R.I.P. sweet Bonnie. xxx Run young and free again girl.
  6. Found it online. I have tears streaming down my cheeks looking at her pic and re-reading her story. But I am so so thankful her story has been told. http://digitaledition.fairfieldadvance.com.au/#folio=11
  7. I've done a few google searches and haven't found anything online yet. I have also been outside about 5 or 6 times to see if the paper has been delivered. It's usually dropped off today, but isn't there yet. It is raining out there too so not sure if that has anything to do with the delay. I will update as soon as it gets here though.
  8. I am so sorry for your loss Gallomph. I bet he had the best 2 years with you, probably the best 2 years of his life. R.I.P. Tiny Tim run young and free on the other side of the rainbow. xxx
  9. Everything went well with the editor/photographer today. I was so nervous about it but I kept looking at Cookie's photo and knew I had to put my nerves aside - it was something I had to do. If it makes just one person think twice about being cruel in the future, or leaving their cat out to roam, it's worth it. No animal deserves to go through what Cookie did in her short life. The editor has been absolutely fantastic as was the photographer. I swear he had to of taken at least 500 photo's. But like he said, they tell the story. I also believe they can say so much more than words sometimes. He said the story *might* even make front page of the paper. I hope so, for Cookie's sake. The editor has contacted the council, the RSPCA and I think the vet too. David O'Shannessy - the chief inspector from the RSPCA (NSW) called me back about 20 minutes ago and there is now an offical complaint made. (he said the woman I spoke to the other day should of made it then). Without an official complaint - they wouldn't of been able to plead with the public for information - but now they can. "We might get them yet Cookie"
  10. Great news! You guys have done an amazing job. I meant to say earlier too that I loved the pic of them surrounded by all their toys.
  11. He is gorgeous Dogmad. Good on you guys for taking him on. I am sure he'll find his forever home in no time. :)
  12. I used to ignore mine and let it run it's course. It'd usually pass after a few days and they'd be back to their normal selves. I'd be letting her go into the wardrobe where she's happy. The more you try to discourage her, the more distressed & anxious she will become. ETA spelling
  13. I've had a couple over the years that have had phantom pregnancies. One was like your's and chose the wardrobe as her nesting spot. Another would work hard down behind the shed making a nest. They'd be restless and panting as they worked away. They'd also go off their food. One even developed milk in her teets with one of her phantoms and the same one would also carry a little teddy around convinced it was a puppy.
  14. I am sorry to hear about your boy Juice. How worrying. I'd also be concerned that the corn cob(s) may of been baited. I hope Apollo feels better soon. Hugs to you both.

It's been 1 year and 2 days today girl since you went away. It feels like only yesterday that you were still here with us. Please know I think of you all the time and miss you dearly. I always will.

    Cookie

It's taken a few days for me to be able to write this but I would like to pay tribute to a special little kitten we named "Cookie". Cookie's thread can be seen here for those that haven't already read it, but please note - it is very upsetting and distressing. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/237700-cookie-dumped-kitten/ Cookie was about 8 weeks old when she was found dumped - on the 20th May. She was in a bad way but surprised us all, by making it through the night. When found little Cookie was almost lifeless. She was gasping for breath, freezing cold and soaking wet - she also had a little gash on the side of her neck which I at first assumed was a bite mark from a dog. How wrong was I... Little Cookie was paralyzed in her rear end. Although she could move her legs, she was unable to use them to walk. On Tuesday just gone little Cookie was taken back to the vet and X-rayed. Turns out Cookie hadn't been attacked by a dog, or hit by a car - she had been shot with an air rifle. The pellet was still lodged in her little chest and her spine had been shattered. There was nothing that could be done for little Cookie so I held her as she fell asleep for the very last time. She purred away happily as I cradled her and she left this world for the next. Cookie was the sweetest little kitten despite what she'd been through. She didn't deserve to be shot like that. No animal does. Although she was only a tiny little girl, she has left a huge hole in our hearts and is missed dearly. I take comfort knowing Cookie saw more love in the past week, than some cats experience in a lifetime. She was happy here and lapped up all the love, attention and spoiling she recieved. I also take comfort in the fact she wasn't left to die alone and cold, but instead was surrounded with love & dignity. We may not of been able to make her better, but we gave her that much at least. R.I.P. little girl, until we meet again - shine bright on that star and wait for us. xxx Holding Jacks hand. "Cookie" gone but never forgotten.
  18. I am so sorry for your loss TD. She looked like a gorgeous girl. Huge hugs. R.I.P. Tillydevine. xxx
  19. Cookie touched so many hearts. I admitt I wasn't a cat person either, until I met Cookie. Cookie not only touched my heart, but she opened my eye's aswell. I think differently now when I see a cat in the street. I know Cookie's story was sad and bought many to tears but it had to be told. No animal deserves to be shot and left for dead like that. I just hope the person who pulled the trigger - gets theirs and some. I really do. I imagine they would of went about life as normal afterwards and I bet they even slept well that night, while little Cookie was left to fight for her life. They probably even bragged to their friends about it afterwards, nothing would surprise me anymore. And I for one, do believe there is a heaven... where all our beautiful animals and loved one's await us and we get to start all over again.
  20. Thankyou T and to everyone else who has offered kind words since Cookie's passing. Upon the first vet visit, the day after she was found - the vet went over her from head to toe. She showed no signs of pain sensation. At all. If she had of, I would NOT of bought her home with me. The ONLY time Cookie showed any signs of pain or discomfort whilst in my care, was the morning before she was taken to be Xrayed when she had that urine scald. That's the only time she showed any pain and I requested even before I took her in that morning, for them to have some cream or something ready to put on her bum area and under her tail. Until the 2nd vet found the pellet in the Xray - her main concern also was the urine scald - I did post that. That that was all she seemed to be worried about so obviously at that stage - she also felt Cookie's back was causing her no pain. If Cookie had of showed any signs of pain or discomfort when she was with me, I would of taken her back sooner but she didn't (until the urine scald). She was happy, she was eating and going to the toilet ok - and her legs were getting stronger by the day. And it wasn't just me hoping for something that wasn't there - I have video to prove it. The last thing in this world I expected - and I am sure the vet would of expected, was for her to be shot with a slug gun. The person to blame here is the lowlife who pulled the trigger on that gun then left her for dead, wet, cold and in that shopping trolley. They ARE the one's who caused this to happen. I did what I thought right for Cookie and we showed her nothing but love and kindness - until the very end. She would of died alone and cold out there, but instead - died with love and dignity purring in my arms. I take comfort in that. Cookie would of seen more love in the one week she was here, than some cats experience in a lifetime.
  21. The editor of my local paper has called me back. She is coming out on Monday to get more info/and a pic (of a pic) of Cookie and is going to run a story in next weeks edition of our local paper. She got back to me very quickly and was very helpful. I am going to ask her to make mention that the police and RSPCA have both been contacted in regards to the incident.
  22. Yes. That was the first thing they did when I took her in the first time.
