  1. A heartbreaking story out of Kazakhstan: According to reports, a dog was killed while trying to save its owner from an oncoming train. The suicidal owner had passed out on the train tracks after drinking a bottle of alcohol. According to Russian news site Ria Novosti, the man told authorities that his dog dragged him to safety. The dog wasn't able to avoid being hit. "Upon seeing the train, the dog started pulling its owner away," said Aida Muldashevam, who investigated the incident. "When train drivers saw the dog on the rail tracks, they used the emergency brake." Unfortunately, it was too late. The dog was killed instantly, while the owner was taken to the hospital. He had two broken ribs and an injury to his shoulder. Dogs have a well-deserved reputation for loyalty. At a funeral for a Navy SEAL who died in Afghanistan in 2011, dog Hawkeye lay by the casket during the memorial service. And in a small village in China last year, a dog remained at its owner's grave for weeks. When villagers took the dog back to town, the dog returned to the grave. Villagers eventually decided to build the dog a kennel near its departed friend. http://au.news.yahoo.com/world/a/-/world/14815976/dog-dies-while-saving-owner/
  2. Aww they're adorable. I am sure they'll find homes in no time once they are ready. Poor Mum though. Hope she settles soon & finds the happy ending she deserves.
  3. Poor old girl, I wonder how many pups she has had in those 15 years... Glad to hear she and bubs are all safe now. :)
  4. Aww I am glad she liked her bikkies. :) Great to hear she is doing so well and is in good spirits. Oh and she is so clever. I couldn't imagine my Takoda doing that trick.
  5. When one of my dogs had dry, flaky skin the vet recommended I use Head & shoulders anti dandruff shampoo. It made a huge difference to his coat.
  6. So true T. I also believe their spirit lives on. Feeling guilt is a normal part of the grieving process MsDani. When I had to take Tess to be given her wings, I felt as though I betrayed her in some way. I know it sounds silly as she was slowly dying and I know I did the right thing but I couldn't help it, it's just how I felt. I also felt guilty when I lost Whitey, when I lost Jay Jay and when I lost my heartdog Gyps. I questioned whether I could of or should of done more for them when I know in my heart I did all I could, just as you did for your boy. It's a normal part of the grieving process and those feelings do ease in time. You gave your boy the greatest gift MsDani. You put him before yourself and you let him pass with love and dignity. Hugs to you.
  7. So sorry for your loss Penumbra. He was gorgeous and looks so regal in that pic you posted. My thoughts are with you. R.I.P. Caesar. xxx
  8. You done the right thing for your boy MsDani, he is at peace now, no more pain or suffering. I know it might not seem like it now, but in time you will be able to think of him and be able to smile without crying. My thoughts are with you, take care. R.I.P. Boy. xxx
  9. R.I.P. beautiful old girl. xxx I am glad she got to see some love and kindess in her life after such a horrible start.
  10. Reading Daisy's story made me all teary eyed. Thankyou for sharing it with us. :) She's gorgeous and I am so glad she is finally home - where she belongs.
  11. Huge hugs Msdani. Reading some of the posts here, has me in tears. I went through similiar with Whitey when he was sick. So many times, I thought this is it, it's time but then he'd pick up again and be ok. In the end I knew though. The night I stayed up with all night thinking he was going to die here at home. He made it through the night and ended up at the vets early next morning. The last time I saw him, I saw it in his eye's. I remember him struggling to sit up to look at me one last time. I saw that look other people speak of. I wanted to tell the vet to give him his wings there and then while I was there, but couldn't. I just kept thinking what if this, what if that, what IF he comes good again.... He didn't come good again. He passed at the vets during the night without me by his side. I also believe their spirit lives on. In our hearts and in our lives forever. They are never far from us. My thoughts are with you and your beautiful boy. xxx
  12. So sorry Maree. She was gorgeous. R.I.P. Maggie. xxx
  13. The man convicted of killing Canberra truck driver Bob Knight has laughed after being sentenced to at least five years and nine months in jail. Mr Knight was shot dead while he was in his truck waiting at traffic lights at Milperra in Sydney's south-west in 2009. He was hit by a stray bullet from a gunfight between rival family groups in a restaurant carpark. Mahmoud Mariam was found guilty of Mr Knight's manslaughter after firing off several shots from his pistol during the fight. In the NSW Supreme Court today, Mariam was sentenced to a minimum of five years and nine months jail but will be eligible for release in April 2016. In sentencing, Justice Megan Latham said the 28-year-old wore his contempt for the law like a badge of honour. "The offender was a mature adult who consciously and arrogantly engaged in a mindless display of violence in the presence of much younger men," she said. "The offender himself has at no stage expressed the slightest remorse for the death of Mr Knight." Mariam laughed as he was escorted out of the court room. Another man involved in the fight has been sentenced to two years in jail. Two teenagers convicted of affray for their part in the fight have avoided jail. They were both been given three-year good-behaviour bonds. Mr Knight's family welcomed Mariam's sentence, but criticised him for appearing to laugh and joke with his relatives after it was handed down. "This was not a tragic accident as these criminals would like you all to think," Mr Knight's daughter Cathy said. "These people set out, with guns blazing, to blow each other away. "Stupid idiots couldn't even get that right... the wrong person died." NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell has slammed the penalty given to Mr Knight's killer and says he has asked Attorney-General Greg Smith to investigate whether it can be toughened. "That decision is clearly inadequate," he said. "It's the sort of decision that lowers community confidence in the judiciary and it's one that I've asked the Attorney-General to provide a report to me as to what if anything can be done to ensure that what should be a tougher penalty is imposed." http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/newshome/14708457/truck-drivers-killer-laughs-at-jail-sentence/ I hope he gets what he deserves in jail, maybe then - he won't be laughing.
  14. Congrats on the new arrivals T. Sorry to hear about the little one's lost. R.I.P. bubs.
  15. Glad to hear Tazer is feeling better. Keeping everything crossed he continues to do well.
  16. I am surprised a rescue would even place an entire dog into foster care to begin with. And chances are, the more he settles in and the more comfortable he feels, the more protective of your parents he'll become. I would also be contacting the rescue and seeking the help of a behavourist. Was the dog even assessed prior to being placed into care or was he taken directly from the pound and placed straight into foster care?
  17. How is Tazer today? I hope you've had a chance to get him to another vet.
  18. Poor little girl, and her poor carer. Keeping everything crossed she is found soon.
  19. Any news on Tazer this morning?
