  1. Hehe... this reminds me of Bailey who will wait patiently for something I'm eating and then if I finish without giving him any he actually does a "pffft" and walks off in a huff, it's so funny. He also does this laugh thing when he gets in trouble, kind of saying like it doesn't bother him, but I know it does.
  2. When Bailey and I are out somewhere, markets, walking etc, he decides when he's ready to go home, which is sometimes only 10 minutes after we arrive. He lets me know by crying, then taking the lead in his mouth and will only walk if we go in the direction of the car. If we walk in another direction he tugs and tugs on his lead and will not walk. It's amazing how strong he is at 15 kgs. This ends up being quite a battle with him not budging and sometimes we've been in the middle of a market with people having to walk around us because I couldn't even get him to come closer to me. Like it or not, he always draws attention to me. He digs his little feet in the ground, sticks his bum up and tugs and tugs. Most people laugh and others give me a dirty look, which I have never been able to figure out (maybe it annoys them that I have a dog that tells me what to do). Out of the house Bailey often starts the walk, markets etc with the lead in his mouth and people say "look, he's taking himself for a walk". When we were at the dog park once (which Bailey doesn't like) another dog growled at him because Bailey unknowingly went too close to his ball. When this happened bailey jumped up to my hand, grabbed his lead and trotted off with the lead in his mouth, back to the car. It's so cute when he has the lead in his mouth because he holds his head up high in the air and trots like a pony. It looks so posh.
  3. I guess you probably could, but yes, I wouldn't do it if my dogs could get near the gear stick or hand brake. If they are harnessed into a seatbelt clip though they shouldn't be able to get to the front! That's a thought :-)

  5. Genuine question - Is there a problem with the guillotine style ones?
  6. I like this response lol When I have to leave the dogs in the car for a very short period by themselves I actually leave the windows up to keep the cool air in from the airconditioning that has been going in my car several hours or so (depending on how long I've been driving around for). In fact I actually sit with them in the car for a few minutes and blast the air conditioner to arctic conditions so it stays even cooler! When I get back in the car it's still nice and cool. I've worked out that this is better than having the windows down and letting the nice cold air escape. This was just the other day I did this and it was only about 20 degrees outside. I have put a lot of thought into this, but I suppose I'm still irresponsible. I've even gone to the lengths of getting another key cut for my combo. The dogs have their blankets and pillows in the back which is segregated by a grill and I leave the car running with all the doors locked. They can't get to the front of the car to cause issues and they soak up the a/c like theyre on holiday, LOL!!! But you might faint in at the shops and then the car will eventually run out of petrol and then the dogs will perish because the windows are up! Sooooo irresponsble! LOL I've often wondered how I can lock the car but keep it running!! I wonder if I could leave the key in the ignition and then use the electronic thingy to lock the doors. Although I don't have a grill and leaving the dogs free to roam in a running car would be irresponsible, EVEN if the windows were down! LOL

  8. I used Jet Pets to transport a dog from Broome to Brisbane (unaccompanied) and found them to be excellent. They were also significantly cheaper than dogtainers when I received quotes from both companies. I also found them to be more professional to deal with.
  9. The other one I hate too is when people say 'would of' and 'could of'. It's either would've, could've OR would have, could have. There's no OF involved.
  10. LOL Real estate ads can be pretty bad too! Story instead of storey is a big one. My biggest peeve at the moment is when people don't use the words "lie" and "lay" correctly. Today I will LIE in the sun, yesterday I LAY in the shade. Why does my dog LIE in the sun? Lay is the past tense of lie. When lay is used as the present tense it has to involve an object, ie. I lay the SHEETS on the bed, I lay the FORK on my plate. And in this context the past tense of lay is laid, ie. yesterday I laid the sheets on the bed, the chicken laid an egg.
  11. They don't HAVE to speak to the neighbours first (despite what someone said above). If they neighbours are disrespectful enough to let their dogs bark like that then why should your parents have to be "fair" to them? I'd be phoning the council and when they ask if the neighbours have been approached, tell them no because you don't feel comfortable doing it.
  12. Check out vetnpetdirect.com.au as well. eta: on this site also you'll notice there's a Vets All natural joint suppelement and it's quite a fair bit cheaper. It seems to have similar ingredients and I use it. Not sure if you're in the market for another brand, but I thought if money's an issue then you might consider it.
  13. I buy Cavaliers and if a breeder has been quite successful in the show ring and also does health testing ie. heart for the parents, eyes, patellas, hipscoring etc, then I would have no hesitation whatsoever in paying $1000 for one of their pups... even up to $1200. I paid $650 back in 2003 for my cav and I think that was a fair price for back then.
  14. My cavalier has only ever played with one dog in his life and that was his mate Benny who he loved and adored since he was young. Every other dog that has come into the house or at the dog park he has absolutely no interest in. Has Scoota played with any other dog at all? He might be the same as my Bailey.
  15. How about a Springer Spaniel? they're not too big so the chi's will feel safe. They're active dogs and will love running with Scoota. As far as cats go, we had a little kitten around our Springer and he barely took any notice of it (our Cavalier chomped at it!), but that might depend on individual dogs. I think they have lovely temperaments, very devoted dogs. you can also keep their coat clipped if you go into the bush and want it low maintenance. Our Springer's coat took ages to grow back.
  16. same here !! *nods in agreement* Cavs are sweet, gentle, lovely little dogs BUT in my experience they do shed a fair bit. Of course brushing will reduce what ends up floating around your house but you will always still end up with hair on your clothes, it's a fact of life when you live with cavaliers eta I obviously don't brush mine enough because I am always vacuuming up cavalier tumbleweeds :D The good thing about the tumbleweeds is that the hair congregates in the one ball and then you can just pick up the balls of hair on the floor! I actually find it pretty cool. The other thing about cav hair is that because it's quite fine it can be quite easily swept off couches with your hand or damp cloth. I once looked after a pug that shed everywhere and her hair was all over the microfibre couch and it was so hard to get it off, whereas the cavs came off quite easily. I also get cav hair all over my clothes. I went to the shop the other day and the counter operator asked if I have dogs (while looking at my black shirt with white hair all over it!). If you wear mostly dark clothes and settle on a cav you can always get a black and tan! Even though they shed a lot, they're my choice of dog, I just love them to bits, I love their natures and the way they interact with humans and other dogs.
  17. pot shot rough shot shot down in a blaze of glory long shot sure shot one shot nice shot!
  18. I think Blenheims are stunningly attractive, then Tri's and Ruby's.
  19. When I come back from being away my dog does this angry love thing. He wags his tail and cries, it's obvious he's so excited and happy but then he does this thing where he jumps up at my nose and sort of bites it a little bit and nose butts me. It's hard to explain but it's like he's saying "oh wow, I'm soooo happy you're home, I've missed you so much, but you really upset me and I want you to know that you've upset me!!" ETA - the nose biting and butting don't hurt at all, it's so gentle, but he does get his message across.
  20. Thanks for posting the pictures. He's lovely :p I would be scared too and not want to ride either. It's terrible when you can't do something you enjoy through fear of being attacked. I love to walk through the bush, but it's something I wouldn't do by myself.
  21. What a good dog. If those men were acting suspiciously you should note down what you can remember about their appearance and what they were wearing. You can mention it to the police just in case they are stalking women on the bike track, or at least just keep the info handy in case you hear of something happening. When the bikeway rapist/s was on the loose in Brisbane I had a man acting strangely around me so I gave the police a description and his rego number just in case. You did have a really bad day, it's good the dog was looking out for you. What type of dog is poochy?
  22. I agree with the posters that say he prefers humans and doesn't want a playmate. I have a dog like that. Any other dogs that come into the house he ignores. Recently I adopted another dog and he's so disinterested. In fact they're disinterested in each other, they both prefer humans. I didn't adopt the other dog for him though, I did it for myself. When weighing up the pros and cons of getting another dog, company for Bailey didn't even come into the equation because I know it doesn't make any difference to him whether there's another dog here or not. If you want another dog, you should get one, but it sounds like your dog simply doesn't care either way.
  23. Definitely tea tree.... oatmel and honey are also a good idea. I can't think of what else is meant to be soothing for the skin.
  24. Thanks for that. I just ordered some for myself the other day from Billie Goat Soap so I'll try it on the dog as well.
