  1. What I don't understand about this discussion is why you wouldn't feed your dog meat. I haven't seen anyone on here asked to justify their decision to feed their dogs meat, however plenty of people have asked why you wouldn't. So, can the vegetarian feeding people tell me why they don't actually feed meat? Other than the usual I don't like it response, because this isn't about you, it's about your dog and what they would prefer. Cavalier - I feel very sorry for your dog, my cavalier loves nothing more than getting a juicy marrow bone and spending a few hours attacking it. I don't particularly like getting it out of the bag, granted, however I also don't like picking up dog poo on our daily walks - it's just something that has to happen if I want to own a dog.
  2. Hi Anastascia, There are a few clubs around the place, but if you are looking to do obedience, but with a view to doing agility down the track I can recommend PADS. Have a look here....... http://www.pads.org.au/ I haven't trained there, but know some of their instructors quite well and they do a very good job of teaching young dogs and turning them into great agility dogs. They are positive trainers. cheers Thanks so much, I will contact them. (sorry, edit)
  3. Hi all, I am looking for recommendations for an obedience club or similiar. I have taken my two (6 and 7 months old) to puppy classes which were great but I would like to continue on with the next level. What I am after is a club or group where I can learn more about training and perhaps agility when they are older. Can anyone help with what I should be searching for or a particular place? I am located at Gaythorne so close by would be great. Many thanks
  4. Thanks Winterpaws. I have never seen a flea on them. Does the Permoxin spay work as soon as it is applied? Does it make them itchy?
  5. Hello all I am in need of advice please regarding my two pups, a 6 month cavalier and a 5 1/2 month beagle and treating ticks. We moved house a week ago and since then have been plagued by ticks. They seem to be either dog ticks or brown bush ticks. As soon as I saw the first one I used Advantix on both of them. It hasn't stopped them getting on them, as I pressume it wouldn't but very few of them are attached. I check them twice a day and pull off heaps of them each time. They had a great play in the rain yesterday so I washed them with an anti itch shampoo then put on a tick collar as I wasn't keen on paying $50 a fortnight for tick treatment and the collar are $12 for 2 months. I woke up at 11pm to hear my cavalier crying and very distressed in his crate. I immediately took the collar off and let him out, he was agitated and couldn't stop scratching. He settled down after a while then went back to sleep finally. The beagle seems fine but they are both very itchy. I have been feeding a lot more dry food (Advance) than I used to so I am wondering if that could be contributing to their itchiness? How should I tackle this tick problem and itchiness? They seem to pick them up when we go walking along the footpath. I have heard of proban but I thought it only treated paralysis ticks and takes a month to be active. Many thanks
  6. Thanks APBT, will do! I love making things out of wood so could be a good weekend job. Many thanks
  7. Hi all, I am looking to purchase a dog kennel for my 5 month old beagle puppy. I want something that is well made and waterproof. It will be going in our courtyard in an undercover, well sheltered area. Does anyone have any suggestions or links to websitess with good kennels? I am in Brisbane northside. Many thanks
  8. Hello all, I have two lovely pups who love playing in the garden/lawn, chassie's, play with their roller ball but I want to know of any games I could play with them or toys I could give them. They have a kong each, two hol-ee bowler balls, a teddy each which they adore, and a few squeaky toys. They aren't too fussed on any of these except for the kong if there happens to be chicken or turkey mince in there! What games do your puppies enjoy? Has anyone given their pup one of those children's shell dish things? I was thinking I could put some water in it for supervised play or fill it up with sand. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks
