  1. Poor Zayda Good to hear she came through it all ok Z_A Thats one less thing for you to worry about. Coming out of the anaesthetic is the hardest part to bear. Believe me when I say she will be much much better in the morning... ahhh hindsight Im keeping my paws crossed for Zayda and I cant wait til she feels better in the morning These are for Zayda >>> These are for you Z_A >>> Let us know how you both are tomorrow.
  2. aw poor Scout I dont know anything about it im sorry but im sure you will get some good info and advice from others.
  3. We fed Eukanuba for around a year, and the dogs did great on it but after researching the Barf Diet and starting the dogs on that we no longer feed kibble.... $115 for a 12kg bag of Euk was way too much for us and then I found out Eukanuba is owned by IAMS and they still test their product on animals so I will never feed it again, no matter how well they did on it.
  4. Ive only recently started feeding a Barf diet so I wont give you any advice as I am not nearly as educated as I'd like to be! But have a look at these sites. They have been a great help for me http://www.njboxers.com/faqs.htm#started http://www.barfworld.com/html/barf_diet/ba..._specific.shtml
  5. Glad to hear of the positive progress this week Erny!! Paws crossed it continues for you and Mandela
  6. I think the hardest part is picking them up from the Vet and having to see them out of sorts from the anaesthetic. My Vet called the next morning and told me that the Roast Chicken had a good level of Glucose in it and this would help him get out of the Anaesthetic and she was right, he perked up after that, slowly but surely(as well as being the least tooth sticking food) Chicken = Happier toothless furkid! Also Asher's Fart are super dooper nasty today!! He's not a big farter, today and yesterday.....vomit material!! Beware of the rear end!! Speaking from hindsight Zayda_Asher, I know Zayda is going to be just fine!! Im here for you when you need that shoulder!!
  7. HAhahaha!! Glad you liked it Puggy!! Asher is feeling so much better today! He's frisky and playful and himself...... ahhh sweet relief Thanks everyone for you support and words. Helped me through.... big sook that I am!!
  8. Thanks Zayda_Asher Yep, its a hard one to remove. We were lucky though, Asher has great teeth, she said if his teeth weren't in as good nik (older, tartar, unhealthy) then it would have been even harder to get out Gonna make sure we keep em in good condition. Asher, Nooki and I have just had a big morning tea which consisted of more Roast chicken.... yep, i didnt spend enough yesterday at the Vet, so now im buying $10 Chooks!!!! bank balance fading, fading, fading Where's the damn Stimulus Package???? I could have used it yesterday! He is definitely getting better as the day goes on. Makes me get better as he gets better
  9. So I brought Asher home last night at about 5. OMG the poor lil fella was not happy. Of course, I was not happy. The Vet said it was a bigger job than expected because of the size of the tooth and she said it kept breaking so they had to cut and stitch more than she thought. He was whining as soon as I picked him up from the Vet and he was way out of it because of the anaesthetic. I got him home and he was so sad and I was worried he might be in pain, although I knew deep down that he was still pretty drugged up. I slept with him the night through in the Kitchen. I was on the couch cushions at about midnight, so comfy.... by about 1am he was on the cushions!!! didnt get too much sleep cos I was so worried, but this morning he got up and had a little walk around the kitchen, ate some chicken (vet said its the best non-teeth-stickin food) and had his pain killer and antibiotics. he hasn't been to the toilet yet, but I think it will happen soon. I was such a mess last night, seeing my baby in that way. I was thinking, don't baby him, but i couldn't help myself! Sucker!!! Puggy_Puggy.... no tooth fairy..... Chicken Fairy
  10. Peanut Butter is toxic? uh oh....... my dogs should be dead!
  11. Hi Black Magic We have recently been through the same thing with Asher, although he didnt show signs of pain. I visited my Vet twice and after 3 weeks of rest and slowly getting back to exercise he is doing well. I am still a little concerned about one of his legs, but I think I may be over-reacting. I monitor it every day and if it does go bad then I will take him to a chiro, but at this point he's fine. My point here is that if you are still worried even though your Vet has said she is fine, go to another Vet. You know your Lab better than anyone. Get a second opinion. Vet or Chiro, either or. I hope she gets better soon and I hope you get some good recommendations.
  12. just got back from dropping off my lil baby boy at the Vet. I couldnt believe the emotion I felt. I was almost in tears on the way out and for the first 10 minutes after... and as we were walking home, Nooki kept looking behind her for Asher, which made me sadder........ Im totally fine now im such a wuss!! Chocolate, Asher has recently turned 3.
  13. Visited the Vet this arvo. Yep, that tooth is coming out in the morning. Its cracked up a fair way and has to come out. The other one is ok and the Vet said it doesn't need extraction, but they will have a closer look tomorrow when Asher is sedated. Going to go through teeth brushing tomorrow as well. Will let you all know how we go tomorrow arvo
  14. Yes, he went under but didn't take long. I actually assisted as I'm in the teeth business...humans though. Basically a pulpcapping paste is applied over the exposure, the area is cleaned before applying the restoration which is then set with an ultraviolet light. Xrays are also taken of the tooth. Unfortunately the longer you leave an exposure, the less chance of success as bacteria from the saliva enters the exposure site. I was lucky that the liquid bandage was suggested to me and I was able to apply it within a couple of hours. Good luck. Great info thanks Caffy! Hopefully I have seen it early enough..... either way, I know its a recent break and better I have seen it now rather than in a years time! Will update tomorrow if the vet can fit us in. Thanks again peeps
  15. Thanks for your teeth brushing advice!!! Will definitely ask my Vet about that! Another Asher..... in good company!! MY Asher says thanks for your reply *tailwags* Hope all goes well for Zayda and her premolar. Asher and Nooki have their paws crossed for her fast recovery
  16. Thanks for the info Caffy! I am taking him to the vet tomorrow so if it is similar to your boys then hopefully it will be fixed tomorrow, if not wednesday. Can you give me some info on the procedures involved please? Did he go under for the capping? What is the recovery time? any info would be great. Thanks in advance.
  17. Just to add, fed them furries some chicken necks for dinner and although he ate mainly from one side, there was some chewing on the other and no uncomfortable moments so at least I know he's ok to eat
  18. Thanks for all your responses everyone!!! You have all been a huge help Just had another good look in Asher's mouth and it seems one tooth isn't too bad, but the other looks a little bit odd. WHere the bottom of the tooth has broken off, I can see discolouration. Its not like tartar or bacteria as his teeth were quite clean and there was no sign of that colour before he broke it. I've decided im gonna take him into the vet just to get it checked anyway, only because of the discolouration. He needs to go back for a check up on his legs anyway. We mainly feed Lamb shanks and chicken/turkey necks. Beef bones are few and far between. Did feed some "Meat Bones" last night.... I think it was beef cant be sure. Again thanks for all the replies guys. Puts a worrysome Furmum at ease
  19. Finally found a good diagram Its the back premolar http://museum.utep.edu/mammalogy/images/dentitionuppers.jpg
  20. So I was just having a cuddle with Asher and saw that both of his back top molars have lost the bottom pointy bit (the ones that are in the spot you need to pull a bit of mouth back to see....... don't think this makes it more definitive!!). It must have only just recently happened as I only noticed it today and we have only been feeding Raw Meaty Bones for the past month or so. He's not in any pain that we know of based on the meaty bones he ate for dinner tonight. So does it need to be removed, capped or ??? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
  21. No Idea if there is any scientific evidence. But here's my evidence, strictly non factual I came to DOL and asked a few silly amateur noob questions. All of those were answered by fab peeps here. The more I thought about the BARF diet, the more it felt right. I have always said that dogs, although domesticated now, still have that wild instinct deep down, so BARF just makes all that sensible. As a BARF beginner, I have still not made full transition, but since I introduced Raw meat and bones to my Sibes, their teeth have improved alot, the plaque is diminishing every day. Their breath is not smelly at all, I could sit face to face with them and not turn away! Their Poo is less smelly, consistent and easy to clean up. The dogs love seeing me get their Raw Meaty Bones out of the fridge at dinner time. They love Fish!!! Unfortunately, they do have fish breath after wards though, but the benefits they get from fish make fish breath ok I know just how much I am feeding so I can monitor intake much easier, especially when trying to drop some kilos off my fat boy Asher :p I know exactly what im feeding. Here's a page I just found, havent really read in depth, but it tells us about ingredients in Packaged dog foods. http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=badingredients So after i had a look at a few things, which I have no idea about, I feel so much better knowing what my Sibes eat on a nearly complete BARF diet. I want to add that I do not disagree with feeding packaged and dry foods. I have owned dogs my whole life (as pets) and they have always eaten packaged and dry foods and they all lived long and healthy lives. The BARF diet is just something that appeals to me and makes sense to me. My Sibes agree. ETA - This is what is working for my Sibes at the moment. Please remember that other peoples experiences with specific foods may not mimic your own and with some experimenting with foods you will hopefully find what is right for your K-9
  22. Westiemum, I dont have any advice im sorry, but im happy to here you lil Westie came through it ok. Hope you get some good advice from DOL'ers
  23. Nooki loves the attention so she's easy!! Asher isnt big on grooming, but he will remain on the ground if i ask him too. Try treating your dog while it is laying down and you're brushing it, while at the same time letting it know its a good dog! Asher will stay longer for me, even without treats, if i praise his good behaviour. Otherwise..... run the legs off your mutt then when you get home and it is buggered, you can brush it! ETA - im not a professional, just a regular doggie lover so hopefully you will get some proper tips from the others who know more
  24. good thread Fevah, I needed to ask this aswell!
  25. we have just been through this and still are with Asher. Check out the link below and see if anything there looks familiar and if so, stop your Dog from going near them, or remove them. One thing I have learned is that this season has been the worst for allergies and flea's etc. Just cos you dont see a flea, doesnt mean that little bugger hasnt bitten your fur baby and jumped off to find another victim. their cheeky lil buggers  http://www.dermcare.com.au/pdf/Wandering_Jew.pdf
