After Asher had one of his premolars removed, we did not go home with any pain killers. The extraction was not an easy one as the tooth had been a little bit broken up. Asher was not a happy fella coming out of the anesthetic, but I dont believe he was in much if any pain. I have had a few teeth out as well with no after op pain relief ..... but my dentist is amazing!!

We have reached day 13 of post op and Asher's recovery progress is still going great. We had an incident 2 days ago where suddenly Asher was at my feet, in the kitchen, wagging his tail in triumph as he has gotten past my barricades and successfully travelled over wooden floors and jumped down 3 stairs. my heart was in my throat. little bugger!!! So our Physio appointment went really well. Asher was very well behaved and Lindsay (our physiotherapist) was happy with his progress so far. We started our session with an all over massage so Lindsay could find the areas which were sore on Asher. Most of his soreness was in his back, which she said was due to his uneven weight bearing and general wear and tear after the op so we went over massaging that area. We then moved onto leg stretching and manipulation. We take hold of the foot and push the heel up towards his bum. this exercise is done to improve and build up rango of motion. We do 5 of these 3 times a day. Next is taking the foot and stretching it out to full length, pulling down and out (without hurting) and holding it for 10 seconds. this is done twice, 3 times a day. With Asher up standing, I hold under his back legs and sway him from side to side to increase the weight bearing on his leg. We do 5 sways, 3 times a day. While he is still upstanding, with treats in my hand, still holding him up under his legs, I hold the treat in line with his back leg, forcing him to stretch around to get the treat. This helps to build up the muscles. We do 3 of these on both sides 3 times a day. I also do this exercise, but Asher has to bend his head down under his belly!! I am using this exercise to teach his commands. The under belly one is "bow" We are allowed 3 x 5 minute walks each day. We go down to our back yard and walk a couple of laps, have a sniff, a grass nibble and then back to the crated area. We go back to the Physio in about 3 weeks to see how his progress is going and if all is well we can up the walks to 10 minutes and we can do a few laps in the pool (with a vet nurse present and a lifejacket of course). Still have a bit of the pain killer/anti inflam left so we are continuing it until empty. Dont think the pain killer is necessary anymore but the anti inflam cant hurt.

Best of Luck for the surgery lillysmum!! If you need any help or advice with anything please ask. I have Asher on Day 12 Post Op after having a TPLO so i know exactly how your feeling at the moment and how much is going through your head. I have a thread about Asher's Post Op recovery so if you want to ask any questions, see piccies etc please do so. -
Defrosting in the fridge the day before is good, generally doesnt thaw it completely though, but a dunk in some water for an hour will fix that. Otherwise if I forget, I pop it in some luke warm water and generally it will be thawed in an hour or so. I try not to zap, just cos it cooks the meat a little.

Any news yet Kelly? Benn thinkin bout you two all morning. Hope you are ok Suga. -
Vet visit this morning went Great! Vet Tony was really happy with Asher's progress and with his joint movement. He manipulated the leg so that the heel was touching the thigh and Asher was fine with it! Yay!! Off to Physio this arvo so will update on that later on. The need for zoomies is getting stronger and stronger though. The Vet informed us of a sedative called Tramal, but I told him that we we're going to attack it naturally. Much better for my furkid

Kelly, I just wanna give you the biggest hug ever Im so sorry to hear you are in limbo with Chloe's results. I can imagine the frustration must be awful. You have been given some great info from Loraine and Glenda, I wish I had some advice for you but I know very little, other than what you have told me about the disease. Our dogs are loyal. They love us unconditionally. They make our hearts fuzzy when we get home from work. Their tail wag means more to us than they will ever know. Our dogs talk to us in so many ways and a paw at us, a nudge or a soft bark always makes us smile. They are our loved fur kids. We will do anything for them, as they will for us. When they look up at us from their belly up stretches they are always smiling. They listen to us with open ears and tilted heads. They lick us right on the mouth and instead of spitting and wiping, we class this as a smooch from someone we love. They have our hearts ... they always will. The decisions you make should always be in the best interests of Chloe, which as I believe, always are. I was watching the Dog Whisperer today, it was an episode I hadn't seen before. It featured an actress and her son. They had to put down their dog Dixie, as she was 14 and suffering the usual old age ailments. It was the young boy (he was about 10) who said one of the most important things during that episode and possibly the whole season, regarding older dogs who were sick. He said that all the medications they were giving her only covered up the symptoms, they didnt get rid of the illness. One day she looked at him and he knew it was her time to go. At this stage I was crying, amazed at the wisdom of a boy about to lose his childhood friend. Please dont think I am saying you need to consider this .... I just thought it was something I could share with you, as sometimes its easier to talk to others in here about these things. I will be thinking of your and your family Kelly. I am here if you need to talk. -
I feed Canine Country about twice a week. Its a top product and the dogs love it. It comes frozen in 1kg (twisted in the middle to make 500gr portioning easy) rolls so I just defrost and im good to go. I get mine from Uncle Toms. Its a great pet shop/nursery. No pet selling though

Airing it out again His healing leg day 8. You can see the patch of dermatitas just underneath Asher opened up crate area
-
Ummm, did you cook roasts for your dog? If you are portioning and weighing and mushing and de-fatting etc etc yeah, it will take you a little while and its your first go right? You will get it prepared faster the more you do it and I'm guessing being a first time preparer you were maybe a bit 'perfect' with everything? Give us a run down on what you prepared.

So here we are at Day 8 of Asher's recovery Post Op and we couldn't be happier with his progress. He had a good night sleep last night so that was 2 nights in a row for me with almost full sleep!! He has gotten so used to his crate which is great (cos he's in it for another 5 weeks!) but I think us moving him around a little has definitely helped him not get too bored and antsy. I was going to start teaching him some tricks to help mentally stimulate him but im afraid I dont feel comfortable with it just yet. I dont want to do anything at such an early stage that might cause any injury. I would only be teaching tricks that require him to only be laying down, but still, I cant risk it. Am uploading some pics....mainly for the cuteness factor

ok kids, i recently made up some Veggie Mush, including Broccolli, I have just re-read the General Health Tips sticky and it says it is toxic in large quantities and will cause tummy upset. If I feed my Veg mush including broc twice a week, is it too much?

General Heath Information
Tru Borders replied to BittyMooPeeb's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Ok General Health experts .... here's a new one. Asher has 2 areas on one of his back legs that have dermatitis on them. He has been pretty good lately but if it gives him more grief in the future, what would you recommend I use to soothe the area or eliminate the problem? -
I stopped feeding roo tail for that reason. The ones I was getting were oven dried though .... but yeah, it increased the likelihood of splintering. I had fed many before knowing this and had no problems ..... but im not going to take that chance after being informed.

Tru Borders replied to sandgrubber's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I sprinkle it on the furries raw and dont have a problem with them not eating it  -
aww Kelly I feel sad for you both. It must be so hard to have something like this, a continuous illness, that is always on your mind. But, if there is anything I have learned about you over the past few weeks its that if I was a dog, I'd wanna be yours!! You have the smarts and the love and I bet Chloe is in paradise with a mummy like you!! Fingers crossed for a good result

Me too - makes the dogs cock their heads cutely when they hear it. I like that some money from each order goes to a charity of your choice too - I chose Petrescue. didnt know that. very cool
